Gwen Stacy absolutely did not want to talk about her perfect world because it made her feel incredibly embarrassed.
But the problem was, sometimes if you don't speak up, someone else will. If it weren't for Venom, she wouldn't even believe that another girl would proactively kiss Peter—although imagining Peter proactively kissing someone else seemed even more outlandish.
"But Cindy had already kissed him last time. What about this time? That seemingly inarticulate Emotionless Girl had a super strong initiative. If she could be so frank in front of Gwen about her 'perfect world' being the same as Gwen's, what would happen when she actually met Peter?"
But how should she bring it up?
Peter just looked at Gwen. He didn't know what Gwen had seen in her perfect world, so he simply asked Venom, who was with Gwen.
[I suggest you listen to her. In short, it's very explosive. You need to be mentally prepared.]
What kind of mental preparation can I make? Is Gwen going to rule the world as Queen?
Gwen hesitated for a while longer, then changed the subject: "Um, first of all, we saw your perfect world. It was truly perfect. Irredeemable bad guys got punished, and people you thought were good at heart got a chance at redemption. And we also saw your ideal—but I'm a little disappointed I didn't see my photo on your desk."
Peter was at a loss for words, so he tentatively asked back, "Uh, sorry?"
"No, it has nothing to do with being sorry. It's just... I had one in my world."
"Sorry," Peter genuinely had to apologize this time. "What did you say?"
"I mean... ah, how should I put this. In the perfect world I saw inside the Soul Stone, there was a picture of the two of us grown up. We were both researchers at Empire State University..."
Gwen still didn't state everything clearly, but the meaning was understandable: in the perfect world Gwen desired, she and Peter had a picture together.
"It was there that I understood what I could do: under normal circumstances, not cause you trouble, and when you needed support, let you know that someone stood behind you. If... if someone asked you to carry the whole world, I could tell you that the world isn't your responsibility—or something like that."
Gwen muttered softly. Peter heard it, of course, but he didn't know what to say immediately. Gwen tossed her hair and continued, "That's why I said it was strange not to see my picture on your desk—and by the way, I didn't see a picture of Cindy either. Why is that?"
Faced with the sudden shift in topic, Peter didn't react quickly, subconsciously asking, "What?"
"Classmate Cindy? She was bitten by the same spider as you. She can sense you anytime, anywhere. She's also very pretty, and you saved her. She even kissed you."
Wait, how did Gwen know that? Cindy couldn't possibly have told anyone that, could she? Venom, did you do this?
[It has nothing to do with me. I just felt she had the right to know the truth.]
The hell with the truth! What does this have to do with the truth! Venom, you need to be severely controlled.
But Gwen ignored Peter's silent interrogation of Venom; she was busy interrogating Peter.
"So... she obviously has feelings for you. Everyone around you can basically see it. Why wasn't she an option? Don't you like her?"
Peter didn't know how to answer the question immediately. Gwen pressed him again, "Do you dislike her?"
"No, not at all. I just, I just thought maybe she was caught up in the moment and didn't know how to express her gratitude, so..."
"She said the world she wanted was the same as mine."
Peter was stuck, unable to speak for a moment. He ran his hand through his hair and sighed deeply, trying to empty his mind as much as possible to figure out how to answer the question. But clearly, this question was slightly outside the capabilities of Spider-Man.
"Okay, let's summarize. Since you didn't have pictures of any girl on your desk, it means... you haven't been struck by love at first sight with anyone, or you don't think you should date, or can date, right?"
If he were genuinely smitten with a girl, the question would actually be simpler. Gwen continued, "And you don't dislike her... you don't dislike me, do you?"
"How could I! We've known each other since childhood."
"Good. So... would you refuse to go on a date with me?"
Even Gwen herself was surprised by the smooth transition, and things were moving so fast that Peter was bewildered. He asked the question he'd asked countless times now, "What?"
"Exactly, the literal meaning. If I said I wanted to go on a date with you, would you refuse?"
Peter's mind was racing until the voice that should least be present right now appeared.
"He probably can't find a reason to refuse." Cindy walked over, carrying a book, and sat down on the other side. After hearing Peter let out a pained sigh, she added, "I guess if I asked the same question, his answer would be the same."
"We were a couple in that world, Peter."
"Oh, and we had a wedding photo."
[Whoa,] Venom exclaimed, [She was so subtle just now, but now that she's met her competition, she's pulling out the wedding photo. And have they forgotten that those were just their ultimate fantasies? Why are they acting like these are things that have already happened?]
If you had said two fewer sentences, none of this would be happening!
[I think this is a good thing, especially since only two members of the opposite sex are clearly interested in you right now. Without a doubt, you will attract more and more.]
Is that based on your experience?
[That is the law of the Earth's biological world. The more outstanding the individual, the more they can attract the opposite sex. As for Symbiotes, we are just a puddle of slime; we have no gender.]
"There's a way," Cindy said, staring at Gwen, a sudden idea striking her. "Minus two half-days, there are three whole days from Tuesday to Thursday. Let's pick two days. Each of us dates Peter for one day and lets him decide who he likes more."
"Fine. But I go first, since he was the one who invited me to Puerto Rico, I didn't invite myself."
[And they don't even consider the possibility that you might refuse. Of course, you won't refuse.]
"Just one problem: what if there's still no result?"
Peter then looked at the two girls' scrutinizing gazes and raised his hands in surrender.
