Chapter 37 - Chapter 37 - Papa's Home

POV - Alpha Carlisle

I am Not happy. Delays at the airport forced Ruby and me to stay in a hotel last night, so I missed Kyas' whole night. Now it'll be another month before I see him.

It was about 10 am when we made it home. I caught Chaos on the stairs. He hurried down the stairs and ran off. A game we play that we are also hoping might sway the pack into stopping his punishment.

'I'll get you later, Chaos.' I said.

'I know it, Alpha.' He said with a laugh.

Ruby headed off to check on the staff, and I headed to my office.

I got a push, surprised that it was from Elias.

'Papa? Are you home?' He asked.

'Yeah, son, haven't heard from you in a bit.' I said.

'I know, I've been going through some things, and I needed some time alone.' He said.

'You know we're here to help you through things like that, right? You don't have to do it alone.' I reminded him.

'Yeah, I know.' He said.

'Do you need help with something now?' I asked.

'Yeah, um… I need to go to the bathroom.' He said.

'Then...go?' I said, confused.

'I can't, I can't leave my room.' He confessed.

' Why?' I asked.

'Um... I got commanded to stay.' He said, 'and it needs an Alpha to remove it.'

'When?' I wondered.

'Last night.' He said.

'Which means you got in trouble.' I said flatly.

'Umm, yeah.' He responded.

'Then I guess before I let you out, I should talk to Gamma Chris about why he did it.' I said disapprovingly.

'Umm, about that... it wasn't him that did it.' He answered.

Now I was really confused. Chris was the only one I left here with the power to use commands.

'Then who was it?' I sent back.

'It was Kyas.' He said, so quietly I barely heard him, even through the pack link.

Did I hear him right?

'Say that one more time, louder. Who commanded you if it wasn't Gamma Chris?' I asked again.

'It was Kyas.' He said clearly.

How in the hell?

'Kyas?' I repeated.

'Yeah.' He said.

'Kyas commanded you? Is that actually what you just said?' I asked. It couldn't be, Kyas doesn't have the rank for that.

'Yeah, a lot.' Elias responded.

'What? Why?' I asked, completely confused.

'Ummm... he wanted to show me what you and Chaos do every day.' He replied.

Huh.

'Ok, give me a sec and I'll come up.' I said, because commands that don't come from me need eye contact to release.

I left my office and climbed the stairs, to be greeted by a broken door. A very broken door. It stood open.

"Hey, Papa." He said.

"Elias." I said back.

"I need to see this. Come here." I told him.

He came forward and got to about a foot away from me, then tensed in pain, stopped, then stepped back.

" If I get closer, the stinging gets very bad." He said.

Huh, definitely a command.

" And you say Kyas did this?" I asked again.

"Yes, Papa." He confirmed.

"Elias, what happened to your door?" I asked.

"Also Kyas." He said flatly.

"Why?" I asked.

"Because I wouldn't open it." He stated.

"Why did Kyas want to show you what I do to Chaos so badly that he busted down your door?" I asked, getting annoyed that it was becoming like pulling teeth to get the story.

"Um, I don't want to talk about it." He said.

I thought about commanding him myself, but decided I'll talk to Chris first. I looked into Elias' eyes.

"Kyas command release." I said.

He tried to go forward but backed up, looking at me in surprise. " It didn't work."

Really? The whole thing then?

"Gamma Kyas command release." I said.

He was able to leave his room and ran to the bathroom.

"Elias, you can go get something to eat when you're done in there, but then I want you back in your room until I figure this out!" I shouted down the hall after him.

"Yes, Papa." Came his response.

I reached out to Chris. 'Hey, Chris, I need to see you in my office. Now.' I ordered.

'On the way, Alpha.' He responded.

A few minutes later, I met him there. "What the hell happened last night Chris?" I demanded.

"Apparently a lot, Alpha." He said.

"Explain." I said.

"Cathy contacted Kyas about an issue with the food supplies, that we were getting low and would be forced to ration soon. They couldn't find the book, so he and Chaos went looking for it. When he asked, I told him Elias should have had it last. I think that made him angry. He opened pack wide communication asking if anyone could contact Elias or Ethos, and no one could.

"And then they found the book. I'm positive that's what set him off." He walked towards me and gave me a page torn out of the requisition record book.

The last line said SUCK IT!!!. Oh, boy.

"I finished the requisition and we got it sent out, but, Alpha, they weren't kidding, it has to have been weeks since an order went out. I asked Kyas, before sunset, whether I should handle Elias, and he said the food order was more important. Told me to let you handle Elias, so that's what I did." he said.

"It was good advice." I said. "Apparently he didn't take it."

"Right. About an hour after sunset, I saw Kyas take off at a jog, headed for the running track. The boy looked like a walking thunder storm, so I left him alone. Then I got a push saying Elias was asking for me.

"He wouldn't tell me a thing except he needed release from a Gamma command I hadn't given. I had to threaten to call you before he gave it up that it was Kyas. I didn't want to risk my own command, not knowing how Kyas had managed it." He finished.

"And?" I prodded. Obviously it hadn't worked.

Chris rubbed his neck. "I tried to release it, but... I couldn't do it."

"Did you use the title?" I asked.

"Not at first, but then I did, and it still didn't work. Tried a dozen times, but in the end I had to tell him to wait for you." He said.

Huh. Chris should have been able to negate a Gamma command. Unless... not possible.

"There's more, Alpha." He said. "Elias flat refused to tell me what happened, so I pulled camera footage from the hallway." He said, handing me a flash drive. "You're gonna want to sit down for that."

I pulled the video up on my laptop. The camera was positioned at the top of the stairs, which had a full view of Elias' with the door open - or smashed in, so I saw the whole thing.

Holy shit. Even I shivered at the menace in that boy's tone. He meant it.

My eyes met Chris'. "Holy shit." I said out loud.

"That's what I said." Chris responded.

We sat there silent, and then I remembered something.

"Oh my Goddess, Chris. He warned me, and I didn't believe him. I never thought he was serious." I said.

"Alpha?" He asked.

"Chaos. He told me once that Kyas would rip out my throat without blinking if I threatened his pack. He wasn't kidding." I said. "Hang on a sec, I'm going to call them in."

'Chaos, I need you in my office. I want to know why Kyas thought it was ok to threaten his brother.' I said.

'Yes, Alp--' he began, but Kyas cut him off.

'I didn't threaten him, Alpha.' Kyas said. 'Elias likes promises. I made him another one.'

There was something… odd about the way Kyas said that.
