Chapter 26 - Chapter 26 Sacred Heart Cathedral

Lin Yi threw the zombie's corpse into the bottomless pit of the shelter with force.

Just after he tossed it, a prompt sounded in his mind:

[Bottomless Pit has processed biological material, the shelter gained 10 units of bio-matter]

Great!

Seeing this, Lin Yi was overjoyed.

Unexpectedly, even the useless zombie corpses could be exchanged for bio-matter!

He immediately called Da Chuan over and instructed him.

From time to time, he would bring back some zombie corpses, and Da Chuan was responsible for throwing them into the bottomless pit.

"Now, help me prepare some potatoes; I've found a new buyer."

"Got it, boss!" The young man was flushed with excitement, full of vigour.

An hour later.

With a backpack full of potatoes, Lin Yi once again arrived at the survivor camp of the Commercial Building.

During his absence, this camp had undergone some significant changes.

Some areas had been cleared of zombies and debris, and dozens of people were busily at work.

Some people were transporting zombie corpses to be burned; others were meticulously collecting shell casings, hurriedly repairing damaged defensive works.

A camp guard, sharp-eyed, spotted Lin Yi and immediately ran inside to report to the leader.

Soon, the scar-faced, one-eyed middle-aged man strode out of the camp.

Seeing Lin Yi, he asked, "You really brought the potatoes?"

"That's right. If you're unsure, you can cook and taste them right here. I'll leave the potatoes here, and I'll come back to collect the coins after you've verified them," Lin Yi said, placing the potato bag steadily on the ground.

After a moment's thought, Lin Yi asked, "Do you know a place called Sacred Heart Church, or something along those lines? Uh... what's it called..."

"So... you were originally heading to the Sacred Heart Cathedral for trading?" The scar-faced leader raised an eyebrow.

"Yes, I have a considerable amount, so I need several stable trading channels."

"I can have someone show you a safe route. We often cooperate with them too." The scar-faced leader waved over a subordinate.

It was a young guy in camouflage.

The scar-faced leader pointed to Lin Yi and commanded, "Take this gentleman to the Sacred Heart Cathedral."

"Yes, Commander!" The young guy immediately stood up straight and saluted.

Lin Yi observed the young man, noting that he had a sharp knife and a pistol at his belt, with a solid baseball bat slung over his back.

He recognized this young man as one of the soldiers at the forefront when fighting the zombie horde earlier.

At this moment, Lin Yi had a slight understanding.

This scar-faced leader sent such a skilled person to guide him, obviously valuing the stable trade with him, which was just perfect.

Lin Yi nodded to the scar-faced man as a gesture of thanks, and then set off with the young guide.

Leaving the Commercial Building camp, the guide lowered his voice and reminded Lin Yi with a serious look, "Be careful from now on, because the farther from the Seine River, the more dangerous it gets!"

Initially, Lin Yi was confused until he heard the explanation, and then he understood.

It turns out that zombies don't like to be near rivers.

Now, large groups of zombies have started migrating southward of the Seine River.

Many Professional camps are trying to blow up bridges and trap the zombies on the opposite bank.

"There's a group of zombies ahead, so we'll take the sewer, it'll be safer this way."

With those words, the guide fetched a crowbar and, with some effort, opened a manhole cover underneath a marked car.

Soon, both of them had turned on their flashlights and were moving through the dark but nearly dry sewer.

The pungent smell here made one want to retch, but it was much better than being chased by thousands of zombies.

Here, Lin Yi saw rats bigger than cats, fearlessly facing humans.

A few rats gathered together, gnawing on the rotting meat of several corpses, creating a rather ghastly scene.

Lin Yi shone his flashlight into the rats' eyes, finding them pitch-black, with no sign of mutation.

"Does the virus not affect them?"

"Animals aren't infected, but their behaviour changes somewhat. For example, dogs have started to band together and hunt solitary zombies..."

Hearing this, Lin Yi stroked his chin, secretly moved, even in the apocalypse, dogs still guard humans.

About an hour later, the two reached their destination.

The guide pointed to a manhole cover going upward and indicated to Lin Yi that above was the Sacred Heart Cathedral.

He asked, "Can you find your way back, or do you need me to wait here for you?"

"No need, thank you. Here's something for your trouble." Lin Yi took out two chocolate bars and handed them to the guide.

The guide accepted them, thanked him, and turned to leave.

Lin Yi waited until his figure disappeared around a corner before opening the manhole cover and climbing up.

Unexpectedly, the first thing he saw upon sticking his head out was the barrel of a rifle aimed right at his face.

The rifle was held by a sleazy-looking man in camouflage.

He sat comfortably in a chair, aiming the rifle at Lin Yi, looking very hostile.

"Little rat, where did you come from?"

"I'm here for a trade."

Lin Yi remained unfazed by the dark barrel of the gun, casually emerging from the sewer.

The guide took him through a secure route, so this path must be known to people from both camps,

He didn't believe the man would dare to shoot carelessly.

The gunman eyed Lin Yi's calm demeanor, instinctively licking his lips.

He didn't lower his gun but instead deliberately laughed loudly, "I don't see you carrying any goods, what are you selling, yourself? I bet someone would definitely like you!"

Realizing the man's inappropriate gaze, Lin Yi immediately spat, "Cut it out, I like women. Who's in charge here, where can I find them?"

"The one responsible for supplies is Immanuel, he's in the artificial garden now, the old man in the straw hat."

"Thanks." Lin Yi nodded and then walked towards the Sacred Heart Cathedral.

The cathedral had been transformed into a fortress, encompassing surrounding areas.

Nearby open fields housed a shanty town, surrounded by walls built from stacked cars, buses, and construction debris; though unsightly, they looked very sturdy.

This was clearly a large survivor camp with at least thousands of people, no wonder they dared to rival the Louvre Camp.

With so many people, finding the straw-hatted old man, Immanuel, was no easy task.

Reluctantly, Lin Yi asked a few guards. Following their directions, he finally found him.

At this time, the old man was in a garden, feebly studying plant soils.

"Are you Immanuel?" Lin Yi stepped forward.

"Hold on just a second." The old man said, focused on measuring plants and taking notes.

He was in his fifties, dressed like a gardener, with a neatly trimmed little mustache.

As he straightened his body, there was a clicking sound from his back, clearly indicating that frequent bending was taking a toll on his aging body.

Lin Yi asked again, "Are you in charge of the camp's trading?"
