Chapter 3 - Silent Step

As he continuously absorbed the arcane energy, the more engaged Bob became. It was a thrilling sensation, feeling himself getting stronger as time went by.

He even began getting illusions about being capable of destroying the entire city with just a single punch. Nonetheless, he managed to prevent himself from trying that out, as he wanted to get stronger that he currently was.

Grumble!!

The grumbling of his stomach brought him back to his senses, reminding him of the fact that all this while, he had not eaten anything.

Currently, the amount of money that he had was about 1800 star coins. It was just that he was not sure about the exact amount. So, deciding not to focus on training anymore, he went ahead and opened the small cupboard. Inside, there was a small box, inside of which were the star coins.

Bob went ahead and did the counting, and the total amount of star coins that he had was 1,856 star coins.

It was a good thing that the previous body owner had done some grocery shopping a few days ago, and there were still some rice grains remaining.

Looking at the pitiful amount of rice grains, Bob could not help but wonder if he would be satiated. Regardless, this was the only one that was currently available, so, he went ahead and boiled the rice.

While the rice was boiling, he called upon the system panel. His information had changed slightly.

[Name: Robert Milton

Power level: Level 8 Soldier

Level 8 soldier! That was fast! According to the memories that he had, he understood that many people would take a long time, ranging from years to decades in order to be able to reach this level from being a level 1 soldier.

But here he was, he had only taken less than a day, not sure if it was actually a day. In any case, he was sure that night did not go by while he was training.

Looking at the old watch on his wrist, one that was inherited from the old man who had adopted him, Bob realized that It was currently 5:24 in the evening. He had taken quite some time when he was training.

He could not exactly tell the time that he had taken while training, considering that he did not look at the watch before training.

Bob clenched his fists, feeling the strength that was within him. At this moment, in comparison to the moment that he had just transmigrated, there was a great difference in terms of strength.

'I will have to get a skill that would enable me to be able to fight. This way, I can finally venture out of the stronghold, kill a few demons and gather demon crystals.' Bob thought to himself.

But then suddenly, he thought of something else. Just a few hours ago, he was only a mortal. But now, he was already a soldier. This was definitely going to raise a few doubts.

While it was true that those that had awakened, gaining powerful techniques, would be recruited by several organizations within the stronghold, but that was not something that Bob wanted. After all, the matter of the system was not something that he wanted to expose.

It was a good thing though, considering that the previous Bob had not interacted with many people. He only had a few contacts, but those were other kids, during the times that he was still venturing out of the house.

It seems that he would have to find a skill or a technique that would enable him to be able to hide his power level. And right now, it would be a good thing if he avoided the areas where powerful awakened ones could be found.

After making up his mind, Bob went ahead and took a shower, before eating the small amount of rice that had already been boiled. It seemed that his appetite had increased after becoming a soldier, so, that small amount of rice could only sustain him, but not satiate him.

After changing into a new pair of clothes, Bob finally stepped out of the house. He could not help but squint his eyes slightly at the bright light outside the house.

The room that he was living in was only illuminated by a small candle, so, the light was not bright. Outside, even though it was already 5 in the evening, the sun had only begun setting.

Bob lived in the slum areas, where most of the people, especially those that awakened common techniques lived. The area was cramped with many people and many houses close to each other.

Of course, the hygiene in this part of the stronghold was very poor, which was to be expected. As for expanding this area, it was impossible, considering the problem of demons continuously attacking.

Walking through the streets, Bob headed straight towards the center of the stronghold. Well, he was not actually heading to the center of the stronghold, but instead, to the edges.

He wanted to acquire a skill or a technique that could be used to hide his power level. It was a good thing that the skills that he wanted were only low level, and so, he did not need to venture to the center of the city where high level skills and techniques could be found.

A few minutes later, Bob arrived in the market area of the stronghold. This market area was where almost everything was sold, from demon crystals, of course low level ones, to food, skill scrolls and so on.

The market was quite organized, with the section for food being separated from the area where one could acquire skill scrolls and other things related to awakening and demons.

Bob approached one of the stalls that was selling things related to demons. He could see that there were quite a few weapons, armor, and so on.

Even though he could not see the skill scrolls or demon crystals, he understood that they were kept separately. They could not be displayed openly, as they could be easily stolen.

"Welcome, young man, what do you want? I have anything that you would ever want if you want to venture out of the stronghold." The stall owner enthusiastically introduced the moment that Bob stopped in front of his stall.

"Do you have skill scrolls?" Bob asked, though he did not mention directly that he wanted one that was related to hiding power level.

"Skills scrolls? I have those." The stall owner responded enthusiastically. At the same time, he took out scrolls from a locker of the stall.

"I wonder, young man, what kind of scroll do you want? You have only recently awoken, right? Maybe you want something that can enable you to be able to venture out of the stronghold?" The stall owner asked as he placed several skill scrolls on top of the stall.

Bob was not surprised when the stall owner guessed that he had just awakened. After all, his current attire was enough to prove that he had just awakened.

The previous Bob did not use much of the star coins in purchasing clothes and other things. Basically, other than the clothes that he rarely bought due to his growth, he only bought food, with the rest of the money being saved.

"Can I go through the scrolls? I don't have any particular skill scroll that I want, so I would like to go through them first before making a decision on what I'm going to buy." Bob responded.

"Sure, go ahead." The stall owner immediately agreed, pushing the skill scrolls closer to Bob.

Bob began going through the skill scrolls. Just by looking at the colors of the skill scrolls, he could tell that they were all Common tier techniques.

Even though Bob did not possess that much information about the awakened ones, the issue of the skill scrolls was not a secret.

According to the information that he had obtained from the previous memories, Common tier scrolls were bronze in color, Uncommon were green and Rare tier scrolls were blue. As for the highest level, at least the one that he knew as of now, Epic was rumored to be purple in color.

In any case, not many people had seen Epic tier skill scrolls. They definitely could not appear within the small strongholds like stronghold number 7. Instead, they usually only appeared within the biggest stronghold, Durnvale.

Durnvale was the stronghold that was in charge of all the small strongholds around here, and it was located above all these strongholds in a floating city. To get there, not just anyone was qualified.

Back to the present, Bob did not really bother much about the quality of the scrolls. Instead, he was more than happy, considering that acquiring common skill scrolls would be cheaper, which was definitely going to be within his budget.

The skill scrolls that were presented in front of him contained those that provided skills for combat, scouting, together with other normal life skills. There was no any special technique here.

But there was one skill that caught Bob's attention. That was a skill called Silent Step. From the skill scroll, he could not actually tell the effect of the skill scroll, but considering the name, Bob had a basic understanding of what this skill might be related to.

Bob was wondering what this skill could evolve to and what effects it would bring if it was evolved to the Epic tier. Thinking about this, he looked at the stall owner and asked, "What is the price for this skill scroll?"
