Chapter 6 - Targeted

As he stepped out of the house, Bob could not help but look around curiously. This was the first time that he was going outside at night.

While it was not late, only being 7, almost 8 pm, the streets were currently deserted. This was to be expected, considering that night time was the most dangerous time in this world.

Most of the times, the invasions by the demons occurred at night, leading to many people not daring to venture out of their houses at night. But more than that, criminal activities within the slum area were more rampant at night.

Bob was currently at level 8 of the soldier level. That implied that he was not weak, especially considering that most of the people that lived in the slum area did not possess such high power levels.

The majority of the people living in the slum area, the strongest ones could only reach level 4 of the soldier realm. Unless someone ventured deeper into the stronghold, it would be almost impossible to be able to meet with stronger people.

Thinking about this, Bob felt slightly relieved. While he was not that much worried about facing a small group of gangsters, what he did not want was to attract any form of unnecessary attention.

Holding the spear in his hand, Bob began walking towards the direction of the nearest shop. When he got there, he realized that the shop was currently closed. And from his memories, he understood that it was impossible for the shop owner to open the shop, even if he went there and knocked.

Feeling slightly helpless, Bob could only venture deeper into the stronghold. Most of the people that were living in the outskirts of the stronghold would always sleep earlier as compared to those that lived in deeper parts of the stronghold.

But even after walking for more than 20 minutes, Bob did not find any shop that was open. As he was wondering what to do, as he could not avoid the hunger that he was currently experiencing, he finally noticed something.

Faintly, he could hear the sound of people talking. This sound was coming from quite a distance away, and it was only due to his enhanced hearing due to his current power level that he was able to hear that.

From the little content that he could grasp from the voices, it seemed that the people were arguing about something that had been sold. It seemed that someone had been given something that had expired, or maybe that person was trying to scam the shop owner.

Regardless, since it involved selling, that implied that the shop was currently open. Not hesitating, Bob hurried over. About 2 minutes later, he finally arrived.

Just like the location where his house was located, this was also part of the slum area. It was just that this area was slightly better as compared to where he lived.

Currently, a shop was open, with three men standing outside. One of them was a middle-aged man, and from his position, it seemed that he was the shopkeeper.

The two men standing opposite him had several scars on them that were exposed. One of the men was wearing an old vest, while the other one was not even wearing a shirt. The parts of the upper bodies that were exposed by the two men exhibited scars, which were obviously caused by conflicts either by involving other humans or demons.

The moment that he approached, the attention of the three people was immediately shifted to him. The two men could not help but frown upon seeing that Bob was approaching. Regardless, they did not say anything and stood there, gazing at the middle-aged man opposite them.

Bob did not care about the attention that he had received, as he felt relieved considering that this shop was also selling food. It seemed that he would have to do some shopping for the groceries, to make sure that an incident like this would not happen again.

"Shopkeeper, I need to buy food. I want rice, any fresh vegetables that you have, a kilogram of beef…" The moment that he arrived in front of the middle-aged man, Bob spoke of what brought him there.

The shopkeeper was slightly stunned, not anticipating that such a young man was going to purchase so many things at once. Additionally, this was definitely not the best time to make such purchases, considering the dangers that were involved.

The middle-aged man gazed at the two men that were standing opposite him, before he frowned slightly. He looked at Bob, focusing his gaze mainly on the spear that Bob was carrying before he said, "Come in with me."

"Hey, are you trying to run away? You cannot leave like that. You sold bread to us, and it had expired. You have to replace it for us and give us compensation for the damage caused after we took the rotten food." One of the men said aggressively.

"That's right. Are you trying to avoid taking responsibility of the mistake that you did? Let me tell you, it is impossible!" The other one voiced out as well.

The middle-aged man who was just about to enter into the shop stopped. He turned around and looked at the two men that were looking at him aggressively and said, "I am an honest business person. All the items here, I sell them honestly. I don't sell anything that has expired, so, you better not try that trick, it doesn't work on me."

Immediately after saying those words, the middle-aged man completely ignored the two men and entered the shop. Bob followed behind, and waited for the middle-aged man to bring what he wanted.

While Bob understood that he was going to start having money from the following day, as he was planning to venture out of the stronghold tomorrow, he still bought a lot of things. He did not want a situation where he had the money, but no food.

A few minutes later, everything that Bob wanted was brought out, and Bob spent 123 star coins. Adding together the amount that he had spent in purchasing the skill scrolls and the spear, Bob was only left with 73 star coins.

After Bob made the payment, he turned around, wanting to leave. But the shopkeeper pulled him, before whispering to him, "Young man, you have to be careful, not to venture out at night like this. And, when you make purchases, better do that during the day, and don't buy so many things at once. It can easily attract attention."

Bob understood, especially when he saw that the old man was looking at the two men that were still standing outside the shop. Currently, the two men were looking at Bob, as if they wanted to swallow from whole. The greed in their eyes would not be hidden at all.

Bob was slightly dumbfounded at that. Back on Earth, doing a big shopping in the supermarkets would definitely not attract that much attention, especially malicious intentions. Considering that he had only transmigrated today, Bob had not yet adapted to the life here.

So, he was only thinking about not wanting to experience the situation where he did not have food in the future, forgetting about what would happen if some crooks saw him doing such a big shopping.

"Thank you." Bob whispered back to the middle-aged man before walking out of the shop.

He had only walked for a few minutes when he realized that someone was following him. It was one of the two men that had previously been standing outside the shop.

Bob was not sure about where the other one had gone to, but he did not doubt that he had already been targeted. Regardless, he did not panic. Considering his power level, he could easily tell that the person that was currently trailing him was only a level 2 soldier. The difference between the two of them was so big that Bob could completely ignore the other party.

As long as the other party did not make any move against him, Bob did not want to get entangled with him. So, he continued moving, and a little while later, he could not help but frown. He had heard the sound of approaching footsteps from the corner ahead.

And as he approached it, a group of four bulky guys suddenly stepped out from the corner. They all gazed at Bob with malicious gazes.

"Kid, handover everything that you have bought, together with all the star coins that you have. Yeah, hand over that spear as well." One of the bulky guys stated. This was one of the two men, the one who had disappeared a little while back.

It seemed that this guy had gone back for backup, quite cautious to say. Still, Bob was obviously unhappy. This was the first time for him in this world, and he was already targeted?

Another bulky guy that was standing next to the person who had spoken frowned. As he looked at Bob, he wanted to see the reaction of a startled person, panicking and afraid. But as he looked at Bob, he did not see any of that, other than a frown that exhibited discontent.

He then thought of something, before gazing deeply at Bob. As he was observing Bob, Bob suddenly looked over, and the man felt a shiver running down his spine.

Just as the man beside him was about to say something, he immediately stopped him. And as he looked at Bob, he said with a forced smile, "Don't worry about the nonsense that this guy uttered. Please proceed with where you were going to."

"What?" His words immediately startled his colleagues. They were not the only ones, considering that even Bob looked at him, wondering what was up with this guy.
