THERON
What did I want? I wanted that female! That's it! I wanted Sienna!
"I know this is going to sound like a jerk move, selfish even, but I want you—and I don't want you," I swallowed hard, the saliva scraping against the walls of my throat like sandpaper. "I want you, Sienna. I feel absolutely drawn to you, but I can't put you in danger."
"And how, exactly, would you put me in danger? Last I checked, I was already in danger, and then you showed up and saved me. More than once, Theron."
Hearing her say my name sent jolts of electricity through my body.
"I can't tell you the details, because you're not my mate, Sienna. At least… not that we know of. But there's a condition in my family and… whether I want it or not, if I keep you by my side, I'll be condemning you to suffer. And no, not with me. While you wither away, I'll get stronger. Even if my mind and my heart rot away."
I glanced in her direction. She was watching me, mouth moving side to side, clearly deep in thought.
