In a high-security command room, five middle-aged figures sat around a reinforced metal table. To any ordinary citizen, the sight would be jaw-dropping.
They were Huaxia's strongest battle force
Champion Leng Xin,
Flying Elite Li Tianming,
Ground Elite Sun De,
Dragon Elite Long Jun, and
Water Elite He Yong.
These five had rarely gathered in public since the last national crisis. But now, the massive display before them showed why they were here: a cluster of camera feeds displaying different angles of the Electric-type Forest.
Despite the confident smile on Leng Xin's face, the other four knew him well—Huaxia's protectors did not gather unless a serious threat was unfolding.
The screen flashed. From above, Zapdos and thousands of Electric-type Pokémon swept into view.
"…It's started. Leng Xin, are you sure this is under control?" asked He Yong, eyes narrowed.
All eyes turned to Leng Xin.
"She hasn't contacted me at all," Leng Xin replied, pointing to a live feed of Chen Xiaoxiao. "Look at her posture breathing steadily, face calm. She's not panicking. That means she has a plan."
Onscreen, Chen Xiaoxiao stood facing down the storm, unflinching.
"Heh, you're right," Sun De chuckled. "Everyone else looks nervous. She looks… thrilled. What a bold little girl."
"You seem to like her," Li Tianming noted.
Leng Xin gave a relaxed smile.
"She raised a Champion-level Solgaleo at just 16. Not inherited, not bonded like Xu Fei and Entei. She raised hers from scratch. Her background is clean, and she has elite lineage and merit. Just last month, several higher-ups suggested we make her the next national youth representative. If she performs well here, I'll approve it."
The others exchanged knowing smiles.
This was standard for Huaxia. Each generation, they'd select one standout youth someone with overwhelming talent and moral clarity to be a model for their peers.
Originally, that candidate was Xu Fei. But Chen Xiaoxiao's dominance over Xu Fei in a publicized Elite-level match had changed the board.
More than that, the Zhong family scandal had shaken trust in previous picks. To prevent their younger generation from unintentionally offending Chen Xiaoxiao, many factions unanimously recommended her.
The only problem? She hadn't had enough public moments to justify the title.
Until now.
Leng Xin had told her earlier that he couldn't leave his post yet secretly, he had deployed Elite-level personnel for surveillance and video capture, while others stood by in nearby provinces.
He was testing not only Chen Xiaoxiao but the overall competence of Hubei Province's trainers.
"If we don't publicize her, and she ends up camping at our offices again like with the Zhong incident…" muttered Long Jun, the youngest Dragon-type Elite, shaking his head. "My old man still complains about that. She gave them zero face."
Everyone laughed.
Indeed, they had all reviewed Chen Xiaoxiao's file again and again.
At Kenting Coast, she had single-handedly outmaneuvered foreign agents. And in the Zhong case, she could have walked away, but chose instead to fish out the corruption with ruthless precision.
No favors. No mercy. The Zhong elder was in prison for decades.
Some of Zhong's relatives were still squatting outside government buildings, trying to appeal.
"It's starting! Mega Evolution!"
Li Tianming's shout pulled them back to the screen.
They sat upright instantly.
On screen, Zapdos hovered like a storm deity, its electric aura dancing across the sky. Then

She reached for the Mega Keystone around her neck.
"Latias, Metagross Mega Evolve!"
Twin beams of Mega Energy burst out as her Poké Balls opened. Latias soared skyward in a spiral of rainbow light, while Metagross's silver shell glowed like a star core.

Even the camera feed at HQ wobbled as someone jolted forward.
"She has Mega Latias and Shiny Mega Metagross?" muttered Long Jun. "We're promoting her tomorrow."
But there was no time to marvel.
In the sky, Zapdos screeched, wings flaring.
Below it, thousands of Electric-type Pokémon Luxray, Electrode, Manectric, Eelektross, Zebstrika, Heliolisk, and more flared to life. Their bodies lit up like beacons, flooding the clearing with electric light.
Thousands of attacks charged in unison.
The horizon turned golden with electricity.
But Lei Guanzhu was ready.
"Sunglasses, on! Ground-types and Lightning Rod users step forward!"
Each trainer equipped the specially-distributed anti-flash glasses. Without them, they would've been temporarily blinded by the barrage of Discharge, Thunderbolt, Electro Ball, and Shock Wave.
"Ground-types, intercept! Lightning Rod Pokémon draw aggro!"
Dozens of Dugtrio, Rhyperior, Gastrodon, Garchomp, Excadrill, and Seismitoads surged forward.
Meanwhile, Pokémon with Lightning Rod, such as Manectric, Seaking, and Rhydon, redirected energy to protect weaker allies.
"Solgaleo, Latias, Metagross, Sun Pokémon Psychic! Meowstic, Helping Hand!"
Chen Xiaoxiao's commands cut through the noise.
Her team surged into motion. Psychic energy rippled out in force waves, tearing through the front ranks of Electric-types.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The air became a war zone.
Thunder exploded in the sky. Shockwaves raced across the earth.
Metagross punched through a Rotom. Latias spiraled through the air, dodging and retaliating. Solgaleo glowed with divine energy, shielding Chen Xiaoxiao's allies.
Each time they fell back, Helping Hand from Meowstic reinforced their next move.
Even in chaos, Chen Xiaoxiao remained focused.
And in that moment, surrounded by fury, lightning, and explosions
she smiled.
This was her element.
Not diplomacy. Not politics.
Battle.
