Prologue:
In a quiet town called Pallet Town in the Kanto Region, there lived a young girl who had dreamed of becoming a Pokémon Master ever since she was little. Her name was Lyra Mew Nova
Her father had given her the middle name "Mew," the ancestor of all Pokémon, because he believed Lyra was a special child destined for great things.
Tonight, Lyra could barely contain her excitement. Tomorrow was the day her Pokémon journey would finally begin.
Beside her bed rested a light-blue backpack with white patterns, carefully packed earlier that morning. Inside were all the essentials she would need: a sleeping bag, a fishing rod, a pouch for Pokémon food, and another for medicine.
Lyra knew that once she left home, she would be traveling the world on her own. But she wasn't afraid. After all, she would never truly be alone. She would have her Pokémon—and the new friends she would meet along the way.
Lyra sat on her bed in her pajamas with her two Pokémon friends, Pichu and Infernape.
Pichu was a small Electric-type mouse Pokémon with pale yellow fur. The tips of its triangular ears, collar, and jagged tail were black. It had pink cheek pouches, tiny arms and feet, and a small black nose like a dot. Around its neck was a red collar holding a small stone.
Infernape stood proudly nearby. The bipedal, primate-like Pokémon had reddish-brown fur with patches of white on its chest, head, and lower legs. Golden swirl patterns decorated its shoulders and knees. A blazing flame burned atop its head, never extinguishing. Its eyes were blue with yellow sclera, and blue digits marked its hands and feet.
Pichu sat comfortably on Lyra's lap while Infernape rested on the floor in front of her. The three of them were watching a Pokémon battle on television.
On the screen, Gengar had just used Hypnosis, causing Nidorino to fall fast asleep. The trainer quickly recalled Nidorino and sent out a giant rock snake Pokémon—Onix.
Lyra was about to cheer along with Pichu and Infernape when the door to her room opened.
Her mother, Julia Light, stepped inside. Julia was a young woman with long golden-blonde hair and warm brown eyes.
"Lyra, dear, you should be in bed," Julia said gently. "Your Pokémon journey starts tomorrow, and it's getting really late. Pichu and Infernape—that goes for both of you too."
Lyra sheepishly rubbed the back of her head.
"Sorry, Mom. We were just so excited that we couldn't sleep, so we thought watching a little TV might calm us down." She laughed awkwardly. "Guess it didn't work."
"Pichu!"
"Infernape."
Julia sighed, though a small smile formed on her face.
"Maybe so. But you're getting your starter Pokémon tomorrow, aren't you?" she asked.
Lyra nodded eagerly, and both Pokémon nodded with her.
"Well," Julia continued, "if you stay up too late, you might wake up late and miss getting your Pokémon. You wouldn't want that, would you?"
Lyra immediately shook her head.
She turned off the television and climbed into bed. Pichu curled up beside her while Infernape settled into his own bed nearby.
Lyra pulled the blanket up with a wide smile.
"I can't wait until tomorrow."
Within minutes, she drifted peacefully off to sleep.
