Arrrghh!
Furious screams could be heard as villains Crumble and X were thrown into the portal. It had only been three minutes since the clash against gravity and the agents started, and so far, among the mutants, two had already succumbed to their opponents.
This went to show how formidable these government soldiers were!
Though this brief victory came at a cost—they lost an agent during the brief engagement with the two.
If one looked at the ground meters away from the portal, one would see a mangled mess of metal and meat in the surroundings, as the battered remains of the agent lay in clumps.
Looking at the division of the agents facing the mutants, one would notice two things…
One: the heroes and villains were confronted with soldiers wielding their weaknesses.
For example, someone like Starlight, who had the ability to absorb, emit, and control light energy and plasmas, was confronted with two agents—one wielding the ability of reflection, and the other having abilities that mimic the trait of a black hole, devouring light ceaselessly.
To be more accurate, it was the agents' suits that gave them such mutant-like powers. The agents themselves were just regular humans!
This fact was surprising, as technology of this level wasn't meant to exist yet!
Two: Gravon seemed to be paying special attention to quite a few mutants, as unlike others who were facing two or one opponents, people like Adamant, Titan, Frost, Velocity, Void, Rebel, and of course Spark, were facing three to four.
Spark himself was facing six!
Looking at his figure battling, his frustration with the current situation was palpable.
Among everyone here, he was the most disadvantaged in a battle of this scale.
Not because of the number of his opponents—that wasn't even qualified to be a problem. Even the fact that they seemed to wield powers that countered his own barely mattered to him.
His ability, which he called input-output, made him almost totally
invulnerable, but he was still vulnerable in the face of sharp bladed weapons.
And even the fact that all six of his opponents wielded such didn't bother him.
You see, Spark's ability, which he called input-output, was a rare and extremely powerful ability.
This ability granted him the power to absorb all forms of energy in existence—this part he called input.
And it also allowed him to emit or 'output' the energy in any form of his choosing. Be it strength, defense, speed, regeneration, and even energy attacks.
His input was his ultimate defense, making him absorb most attacks—except blades, which didn't pass energy.
And his output, which was his ultimate attack, made him a perfect all-rounder.
To some extent, his output could even counter the weakness of his input, because as long as he channeled his energy reserves into defense, he was good to go. In fact, that was what he was doing at this very moment.
Then why was he in a difficult situation now? One might be wondering.
Well, it was because of the simple fact that he was too powerful…
Yes, he was so powerful a serious punch from his output could devastate an entire town.
This was one of the reasons he didn't like teamwork. He was at the level where a team restricted him, as he would have to worry about restraint against harming an ally.
This was the exact situation Spark was facing now. His opponents were so weak that he could eradicate them with a serious punch, yet so strong that a half-hearted punch wouldn't be able to do the trick.
Whoosh!
His figure finally bolted out of the encirclement of the six.
He maintained his focus as he intricately channeled his energy reserves into
three attributes: speed, strength, and defense.
Quickly as he did this, one of his opponents was already on him with a downward swing.
Which he gracefully sidestepped, dodging the swing and counterattacking with a heavy side punch to the ribs.
The damage was dealt as the opponent flew from his sight, but before he could make another move, the second was upon him, taking a big swing toward his neck.
Clang!
The attack rebounded as sparks could be seen on contact. This momentary stun was all Spark needed, as he delivered a back kick with his heels, which also banished the agent off-site.
And as though a repeat of the first, the third agent was upon him simultaneously the moment he counterattacked. He was just about to react when he felt a pull on his legs.
'Shit!' was the only thought he could get in. Unknowingly, the fourth agent had already arrived, but instead of attacking, the bastard clamped down on his legs hard, rooting him in his current position.
And this split second of distraction was all the third needed, as Spark was met with a massive axe to the head.
Bang!
Unfortunately, he was deprived of the opportunity to be flung out of sight, as he would have then used the opportunity to get a breather. The fourth agent did his job diligently, rooting his figure firmly to the ground.
And like that, Spark was dealt three continuous strikes to the head.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Honestly, Spark was already getting irritated. Yes, he wasn't getting seriously hurt, but being treated like a combat doll didn't feel nice at all either!
Honestly, he was so close to just going all out regardless of the consequences!
Unfortunately, his opponents couldn't care less, as the other four were upon him—one clamped on his right arm, the other his left. One even took it upon himself to hold his head in place, as two focused on delivering continuous rapid strikes, hoping to wear off his defense.
Which was a bad idea, because you see, getting hit repeatedly and so speedily, coupled with the heavy punch behind each attack, was generating enough kinetic energy, which was in turn generating friction, which was also generating heat energy—and all this summed up?
They were actually powering Spark up instead of doing any damage.
Spark decided to focus and try to manipulate the energy he was receiving, attempting to turn it into an electrical charge in an attempt to stun his captives, freeing himself in the process.
But you see, it was easier said than done. His control over input was actually almost perfect, but his output control was crap.
Adding to the fact that he could barely practice in fear of destroying everything in sight, one couldn't really blame him.
Bzzzzzt!
He let out a discharge while trying not to let out too much, and thankfully, by some fluke, he channeled just enough to disarm himself… or to be more correct, he channeled enough to roast all that were in contact with him into burnt crisps.
And unfortunately for his two attackers, their metal weapons were in contact with Spark the moment he let out the scorching current.
And in one fell swoop, he won!
His eyes brightened in excitement. 'Indeed, the exhilarating rush of annihilating an annoying enemy is the best,' he moaned inwardly.
Unfortunately, he wasn't given enough reprieve to bask in that feeling, as another presence was upon him.
"As expected of my son, Spark. Be sure not to let that feeling control you."
Before he could register the fact that Gravon, his father, was upon him.
And that's when he noticed!
He was the only person on the right side of the rift!
The others had all been defeated!
Before he could fully register his thoughts, Gravon's punch, which carried the same force as an asteroid the size of a moon, struck him ruthlessly.
No sound rang out as his input quickly did its work, quickly devouring the energy carried by the punch, and he wasn't harmed.
Not that Gravon had any intention of hurting him in the first place; as his input absorbed the energy contained in the punch, so by default it also inherited the massive momentum contained in the punch, which sent him directly into the closing spatial rift.
Spark's eyes widened in rage and fear as the portal was closed by an overwhelming gravitational compact pressure the moment his figure passed through.
And Gravon's voice whispered in his ears, carrying a hint of what seemed to be regret: "Stay alive, son. I wish there could be another way."
And such were the last words Spark heard from his home planet, Earth.
