Clap! Clap! Clap!
"As expected of my seed"
The moment the voice went out, all government agents on the scene pulled out their weapons, all aiming at both the heroes and villains on sight.
A frown found its way onto everyone's faces, as confusion set in.
Clack! Clack! Clack!
Hollowed footsteps rang out as the government agents surrounding the mutants parted, revealing the mastermind.
And lo and behold, right in front of them was none other than the most notorious villain to walk the face of the earth, the man himself, who is called the Walking Calamity!
It was Gravon!
Spark and Void's biological father.
And also the king of villains.
On revealing his identity, confusion clouded everyone's faces.
Honestly speaking, of all the people in the world, he was the last in the list of suspects that would pull this kind of stunt.
And why was that because it didn't make sense at all to any of the parties involved.
For the heroes, they saw no logic in the government working with their worst enemy, a villain and a rank 0! At that.
It just didn't make any sense.
It was the same for the villains. Why would the colleague work for the government?
Rebel's flickered in apprehension, 'If he's already working for them, doesn't that mean the government already knows about Code X?'.
After all, they had been consistently sending him invites and briefings on their plan, hoping to gain his trust in turn gaining his help.
Glancing at his comrades left and right, he saw the realization dawning on their faces, too.
Gritting his teeth in anger, he quickly concluded that there was no reason for them to linger here, 'the longer we stay, the riskier it gets anyway.'
He made a subtle gesture to the only person who could possibly get them out of this site quickly, Blink.
Blink had similar powers to Warp, except that instead of making gateways through space, he could directly move matter through space-time directly without the need for a gateway, being required, so yes, it was basically teleportation.
One could say he was a higher-budget version of Warp.
Blink, who, from the corner of his vision, got Rebel's signal, was relieved, and he was already activating his ability, ready to get himself and all nine of his comrades out.
Since the moment he caught sight of Gravon, he had already made up his mind to get the hell out of here!
After all, unlike heroes, villains didn't have the word loyalty written in their dictionary.
Thankfully, though, Rebel was smart enough to understand the situation.
And just as he was a fraction of a second away from blinking them all away…
His vision suddenly spun, and he immediately lost connection with his body 'Huh? Why is everyone upside down?.' he wondered.
Then he suddenly caught a sight of a headless body in the distance 'Wait isn't that mine?' and that was the last thought he had before his vision darkened, and he embraced the abysmal darkness called death.
And just like that, till the moment he died, poor Blink didn't even understand what happened.
But unlike the late Blink, the rest weren't that oblivious.
All his fellow teammates quickly darted away from his collapsing body; their gait was obviously tense, wary, and terrified of what had just happened!
Blink just got killed right beside them, and none of them could react fast enough!
Even though the fact was that this happened because they were caught unprepared and off guard, that still didn't diminish the level of weariness that grew in their hearts.
A chill ran down everyone's spine, both heroes and villains alike, as they all focused their gaze on a government agent who stood behind Gravon.
The agent was dressed in what seemed to be a highly advanced technological exoskeleton-like suit, with intricate interwoven runic lines embedded onto the frame as they pulsed with the ambience of blue.
The entire skeletal frame was emitting a dense steam as its cooling system was doing its work on alleviating the heat created by the impossible kinetic force it just generated by the feat its user just pulled now.
The agent just stood there unperturbed by the stares he was receiving, as he was busy cleaning his deep gray katana, which was stained with blood, in a mechanical motion.
Spark's eyes twitched; just now, unlike the others, he and Velocity were the only two who witnessed what had just happened in great detail, courtesy of their enhanced cognition that helped them deal with their speed.
One had to know that Blink wasn't your average supervillain; he was the cream of the crop, a menace in battle, a man who had faced his fair share of heroes and trumped, he was a bona fide No.8 on the villain list.
And just like that, he got decapitated without even being able to react.
Truthfully speaking, the agent wasn't supposed to be able to kill Blink so easily; he took advantage of the fact that Blink was trying to stretch his ability to cover his entire team and teleport them all away.
This procedure took quite a lot of focus and strength on Blink's end, hence his defenseless death.
A pitiful guy he was…
The main reason why everyone was unnerved by this was the crowd of thirty-some agents behind Gravon dressed in the exact same exoskeletal suit radiating various colorful hues, strapped to their backs where various sharp-bladed weapons, some with a kopesh, others an axe, some even had a scythe.
All of a sudden, both heroes and villains began to feel their necks a little itchy.
Seeing all this, Spark decided to raise the danger of the situation drastically in his heart.
As one could see wariness in his eyes as he had long discarded his laid back expression.
'This seems a bit more complicated than I thought,' Spark admitted internally.
Seeing the rapid change in atmosphere upon his arrival and their further reaction to subordinate power, an eerie smile grew on Gravon's face.
And his lips finally moved, and once more his voice pierced through the eerie silence, tauntingly he advised. "Now let's not spill unnecessary blood anymore… So would you lot all do me a favor and walk into the portal yourselves."
