Chapter 1 - The Price of Dignity

"What a stupid way to account for figures Ava!"

Ava closed her eyes as the papers she had barely prepared a couple of hours ago is thrown on her face.

"This is why I did not want to hire you in the first place. You have proven to me that you are nothing short of incompetent."Ethan yelled, slamming his hands on the desk.

"I am really sorry sir. I will make the necessary adjustment please." Ava pleaded. She goes down on her knees to pick up the papers.

"There will be no need for that young lady." Ethan replied, dropping back to his desk and pulling out a brown envelope from his drawer. He threw it in her direction, "You are to leave the premises at once."

"No sir, please. I just started today. I really need this job sir." Ava pleaded desperately.

"I don't care Ava. Leave my office at once!" Ethan ordered pointing at the direction of the door.

Ava had been told that the CEO of Trey technologies is well known for having a bad temper and she regrets not listening to the people who warned her about Mr. Ethan.

Seeing that there is nothing she could do, Ava goes down to her feet and grabs the envelope. She tried not to cry as she stared at Ethan, whose attention is now on the monitor.

As she stepped outside his office, so many thoughts ran through her mind. One of them being the desperation to raise the money needed to clear off her parent's debt.

Ava is a young and ambitious driven young lady, whose parents has been caught up in debts because they had been trying to make sure she finished off her school.

Now it is her turn to pay them back for the deeds that they had done and things appeared to be tough on her side.

When she stepped into her own office, someone is seated on her chair and Ava rolled her eyes at the familiar face of the head of operations Mr. Walter.

"You don't look too good." He observed.

"He fired me because the numbers were not adding up in the balance sheet. I mean how am I supposed to understand how things work in this company on my first day!" She dropped the brown envelope on the desk.

"Mr. Ethan is a tough nut to crack, but I can help you talk to him. Maybe he will be able to see things from your perspective." He said.

A spark of hope filled Ava. "Can you really help me?" She asked.

"Nothing goes for free dear."

"I am willing to do anything Walter. I need this job more than you can imagine." She said desperately.

Walter take a quick look at her from the crown of head to her feet with a smirk on his face.

"You are not looking bad yourself." He placed his hands on the desk, putting his whole attention on her. "So here is the deal, I will talk to Mr. Ethan and see how he can take you back, on the condition that we hang out this night."

The offer sound tempting to Ava, but the look on Walter's face showed there is an underlying statement that he isn't talking about.

"What are we going to be doing?" She asked.

"Oh! Not much. Just going to a hotel and having a nice time." The smirk on his face proved everything that Ava suspected.

"I am sorry, but I am not interested." Ava indicated.

"Then you don't really need the job." Walter replied, reclining back on the sit.

Ava said no other word. She packed up her accessories and while she attempts to pick up her laptop on the desk, Walter held her hand.

"Stop being stubborn young lady. A lot of women in this firm actually understand the importance of this opportunity that you are throwing away."

"I am not interested Walter." Ava insisted and broke away from his grip. She grabbed her laptop and turned around to leave.

"Very well then, carry on with you miserable life."

Ava paused at the door and turned around to stare at Walter, who looked furious.

"I will rather loose a job than loose my dignity as a woman to a cunt like yourself!" She turned and walked out of the office, slamming the door on his face.

When Ava got out of the firm, she begins to wonder how it could be possible that she delivers the news of loosing her job to her parents. Most importantly is her father, who has placed his entire life in this moment.

On the road to her back home, she heard the sound of a car coming her way and she moved aside, but the speeding vehicle splashed a lot of water on her face.

"You are such a useless driver!" She yelled at the black car, which had slowed down. "I hope you drive into your death!"

The car which had slowed down for a moment, took off after she kept howling insults at the driver.

Her entire body is soaked up in dirty water and she muttered curses within her breath while trying to clean it up.

Ava is glad that her family's house is just a mile away and this caused her to walk fast and to avoid people from seeing her in that condition.

When she arrived at the apartment, Ava paused in her steps. She could not believe the sight before her.

The same car that splashed water on her earlier on is parked outside. Ava's anger returned as she walked inside the living room.

"Ava, thank goodness you are back. What happened to your clothes." Her mother asked, seeing her condition.

Ava's eyes landed on a young looking man sitting comfortably at the couch. He appeared to be in his middle twenty and although he oozed so much confidence, it did not stop her from doing what she had in mind.

Ava dropped her documents and walked over to the man, giving him a loud smack on the face.

"Ava!" Her parents screamed in disbelief.

"That is for my shirt you dummy!"
