Chapter 2 - CHAPTER 2: DOWNTURN OF EVENTS

CASSIUS

"KINGS!! So ambitious!" Marcus roared with a short, annoying laughter, his tone screaming sarcasm as I scoffed out, ruffling my hair in frustration.

I sat across the old man's desk who had a smoke pipe, playing in between his lips. Smoke rented the office as I waved it off, glancing elsewhere. I was a bit nervous but never will I make the mistake of showing it. He seems to be more clever even in his old age.

"Not like he's that old…he's just in his early fifties and he's still energetic." An inner voice screamed opposingly in my head.

I didn't like the fact that things weren't going as planned. The deed has been done but here I am, still fighting to get what I deserve.

"Do you think it's fake?" I asked, titling my head a bit as I narrowed my gaze. Why won't he just believe me? Why was he so persistent that I get married legally?

"Hell yeah!! More reason why I said you're so ambitious. You can literally kill to get what you want. I can't believe you threw a huge wedding party just to trick me into believing that you've finally let go of the past." He mumbled with a mischievous grin as I sighed out, clenching my fist.

My heart tightened, why did he bring up the past right now?

I knew it!! I knew this wouldn't work!

"You want proof? Then I'll show you." I lashed out in anger as I threw the marriage contract paper towards him. He caught it nonchalantly as he scanned through it, his expression blank for a while. I waited in anticipation for his say on this. I was in a haste to get done with this.

Soon, he raised his head up, his blank gaze locking with mine. He said no word and I was beginning to feel uncomfortable with his silence. If I knew him too well, his silence meant he was in deep thought. But his eyes remained blank making it impossible to assume his thoughts.

"It isn't a strong proof. You can hire anyone to do this. You've got the fame, the looks and so many cheap sluts will be willing to do it." Marcus suddenly blurted out as my jaws clinched in rage and frustration. Just when I thought that he was going to believe it and we sign the deal, he had to prove me wrong.

"Is that how low you think of me?" I asked, trying to seem manipulative but who was I fooling? The Marcus I know is never moved by that.

"Kings!! Play your cards right and you'll get what you deserve." He stated with an air of finality as he spun his chair around backing me. That was his way of ending a conversation.

I sighed out in frustration, placing my hands on my hips as I stomped out of his office in rage. My hands shook on the wheel while I drove as I headed home.

"I'm never giving up…Old man!!" I stated fiercely through gritted teeth, my hands tightening on the wheel as I narrowed my gaze.

Hell yeah!! I surely won't give up easily. He wanted me to get married first, I did that but he knows that it's just a fake marriage. I would just have to play my cards right as he said, by deceiving him into making him think that this is a real marriage.

"Daisy had better play her role well!" I thought as I drove into the compound and pulled off at the garage.

I highlighted as I walked in, still a bit upset about what happened earlier when Aunt Nancy approached me with a cheerful smile on her face. I loosened up a bit, trying to hide my earlier countenance but she noticed it.

"Are you okay? How did it go?" She asked, staring up at me worriedly. Apart from me and Daisy, she's the only one who knows that this marriage was a fake one.

"Not good.. but I'm fine." I replied simply, forcing on a fake smile. I didn't want to get her too worried. She offered me to the dinning table where varieties of meals were set.

I glanced around and I noticed something was out of place and then my head clicked as I recalled. I threw her a confused stare, creasing my brows. "Where's she?" I asked as she shook her head a bit.

"She refused to come down to eat." She announced as my brows furrowed in confusion.

That's weird!

I noticed something rather strange earlier, she acted so innocent and naive compared to the jovial and vibrant young lady who approached me at the club. I discarded the thought as I took a sip from the glass of wine she offered me.

But I still had something urgent to discuss with her. I was fighting back the urge to head to her room. We agreed that we weren't going to intrude on each other's privacy and I didn't want to violate that law but I'm left with no other choice.

I will make sure to knock first before entering. I thought as I rose up and walked away, heading up to her room. I should have sent for her but I just had this urge to go myself. Something seemed out of place and I was surely going to find out.

I approached the door as I made to knock, my hands paused in the air for a moment. I was considering walking away or sending for her instead but I felt that strong urge to do this myself. My instincts were at alert, something was definitely off, I could tell.

Slowly, I knocked lightly but didn't get a response as I turned the door knob slowly, pushing the door open with a slight creak sound.

My gaze darkened dangerously at the scene taking place in front of me. "What are you trying to do?" I growled darkly, staring balefully at her as she froze, letting out a loud gasp.
