Chapter 3 - CHAPTER 3: UNEXPECTED VISITOR

DAPHNE

I spun around, retrieving my legs as swiftly as I could , my eyes widening in terror as my hands began trembling. Why did he have to come in at that moment? Just when I thought that I was finally going to escape. How do I face him tonight if he tries to consummate the wedding?

I ain't his real bride…Daisy is!! My heart sank in despair, knowing that I couldn't reveal this to him and also, he mustn't find out about it. My parents will be ruined if he finds out about the switch. He wasn't a man to toy with and go unpunished. His eyes were piercing deep into my soul as I swallowed, trying to maintain a calm demeanor.

I knew I had to play it cool, he can't find out about this. I let out a nervous laugh, coughing out slightly as he creased his brows, releasing his hands from the door knob.

"Gosh…you startled me." I mumbled nervously, ruffling my hair slightly as I kept on chuckling, trying to reduce the tension. I was feeling hot inside, I just made a huge mess and I had better find a way to clean this up.

"I was just trying to uhm…uh..get some fresh air." I stuttered, pointing towards the window as I moved away from it swiftly. I bit my lips, I suck at telling lies, one could easily fish me out.

He just stood at the doorway, his gaze darkening every second as my hands trembled. I was supposed to feel confused at his reaction but at that moment, fear took a toll on my emotions as my lips quivered.

He obviously didn't believe what I said.

What's with the cold aura around him? If Daisy was the one here right now, aren't they meant to be a happy couple? What's going on? Why was he reacting this way?

He left the door as he began strolling towards me in a slow but dangerous manner. My chest tightened at each step as my heart raced madly. His steps matched the pace of heartbeat as I shrank, air escaping my lungs and I struggled to breath well.

Damn!! His aura was choky.

I couldn't help but take few steps backwards as he got closer to me. My heart was pounding loudly, threatening to burst out from its ribcages. His eyes were cold, devoid of emotions just the same way they were at the wedding.

He didn't halt on his tracks, he kept strolling towards me while I took steps backward until my back met with the wall as I let out a gasp. Before I could process what to do next, he was hovering over me already, his hands caging me to the wall as I stared up at him, my eyes twitching with fear.

"How dare you try to escape from me huh?" He asked in a surprisingly calm voice, staring at me intently as I shimmered.

I was damn terrified by his suffocating aura but I knew I had to play it cool.

"I…"

"You've been compensated fully for a task you are yet to complete. Don't you dare mess with me." He growled darkly, his fist clenching as I whimpered, furrowing my brows.

What task? And what compensation?

I couldn't stare at his eyes anymore as I averted my gaze, staring down at the floor.

"Do I make myself clear?" He asked, trailing my jaw line slowly with his fingers, forcing me to look up at him as his hands grazed my lips softly. I shuddered at his touch as my body stiffened.

I nodded, shooking my head slowly. "What task!!!" My head screamed continously but I knew I shouldn't ask him about it. He and Daisy might have had a conversation regarding this and if I questioned him about it, he will find it suspicious.

But I also had my suspicions on this, things seemed off. I couldn't place a thing, I was just as confused as ever.

He backed off slowly, his gaze locked with mine. "We've got to spice things up a little. Marcus suspects that our marriage is fake. Play your cards right while I play mine." He muttered coldly as he spun around and walked out.

As soon as the door closed behind him, I sank to the floor, letting out the breath I never knew I've been holding all this while. I ruffled my hair tiredly as I groaned out in frustration.

His last statement kept ringing in my ears as I tried to make sense of it but I couldn't pin point a thing. I knew it might take me days to fully comprehend all this because right now, nothing seemed to make any sense to me.

Few days has passed by and I was still yet to fully understand what was going on. We acted romantic whenever we went out together but indoor, we were distant. We hardly communicate when we're indoor. In other words, we are strangers inside but lovers outside. That's how things have been ever since our wedding. I was beginning to assume that this marriage was actually fake and I found it amusing that, Daisy opted to this.

Well, the marriage being fake made it more comfortable for me. At least, I wasn't going to perform any marital rites, like I assumed earlier. I knew I shouldn't be saying this but staying in Cassius mansion brought me peace. I find solace here than my parents house. I've escaped days of hellish torments from my parents by getting married to him. Maybe, this was just like a blessing in disguise.

Though, Cassius had this cold, scary side of his but I only get to see it when we cross paths so all I do is to make sure I stay off his path.

To be honest, I so much wish that I don't return back to my parents but one thing still scared me to death, what happens when Daisy resurfaces? Will we be switched again?

Her return will ruin things! I'll be forced to return back to my parents while she claims her rightful place. Oh no!

A knock rang out on the door, startling me a bit as I rose up from the couch. I recalled that Cassius had ordered a package earlier. I strolled towards the door as I opened up, expecting to meet the delivery guy but met with two familiar faces. I stumbled backward in shock as my hands left the door knob.

"D…Daisy" I called out her name slowly, my heart racing madly.
