Chapter 4 - CHAPTER 4: AN ACCIDENT

DAPHNE

"Long time…no see, DAPHNE ROBERTS." Daisy mouthed with a smug smile, tugging at her lips as she pushed her way in, making me stumble back in shock and fear. My mother walked in after her as she glared at me with utter disgust.

My hands trembled as my heart raced, what I dreaded most was about to happen. Oh no!

"Oh common….don't you miss your sister? She's been gone for quite some time now." Mabel, my mother muttered, her tone laced with sarcasm.

I gulped down nothing, fiddling with my nails as I glanced at Daisy, she was pacing round the exquisite living room, checking it out.

"How will she miss me when she's been living her life to the fullest in my husband's house!!!" She growled, her tone screaming jealousy and possession as she stood, placing her hands on her hips, staring at the soaring ceilings which was decorated with gorgeous chandeliers.

I already knew where this was going, I needed no soothsayer to tell me. I found myself subconsciously wishing that Daisy disappeared and never returned again. I instantly shunned those evil thoughts before it gets the best part of me. I shouldn't think that way, whatever happens…she'll always be my twin sister and I can't do anything to change it even if I really wanted to.

"Well, her tenure here ends this minute." Mabel suddenly blurted out and I could feel my heart shattering into what felt like a million pieces. Running far away to a strange place would be much more better than returning back to my parent's house. No…this isn't happening!!

I tried to assure myself but Mabel's next word threw me off balance once more.

"Go and pack your stuffs, your sister is back to take her place in her husband's house." She ordered, stressing on the last phrase with a mischievous tone.

"Ohhh ohhh….I'm so back…fabulous!!" Daisy hooted loudly, with a hint of elegance in her tone, as she flung herself on the couch I was laying on few minutes ago.

To make matters worse, Aunt Nancy had gone to the supermarket to get some things and Cassius was away at work. And by the time he returns from the office, I'll be long gone by then.

I bit my lips when I recalled that we were having a dinner date with his God father today. The thought of Daisy going with him instead messed with my head as I tried to shook off the mixed feeling.

"What are you still doing there?...get your things and leave my house!!" Daisy yelled possessively as rage surged through me but I couldn't voice out a word in opposition.

I stood transfixed on the spot, I was finding it difficult to move or say a word. It seemed like I was stuck in a trance, not knowing what to do at that moment.

"I vividly recall how you reacted when your father ordered you to get the wedding dress on. You pleaded with him because you felt unhappy about it so what's happening now? Why are you being hesitant, huh?" My mom yelled in a cold voice, filled with rage and hatred.

Tears brimmed in my eyes as usual, that tone of hers scared me to death. I began trembling more than a drenched cat. Inwardly, I wished that Aunt Nancy or Cassius should return at that moment but it was almost impossible.

"And I'm back now so you can leave…you're no longer needed. You were just used to fill up for my absence." Daisy mumbled cruelly as she rose up and strolled towards me slowly. She took my hands and pulled out the ring carelessly as I let out a shriek.

"This is mine now…look how you've smeared it with your filthy fingers." She whined, staring at me with utter digust as she wiped off the invisible dirt on my clothes.

I stood still, tolerating all she was doing to me. I dared not say a word about it.

"Mom…I think we should push her out instead, she's wasted enough time in my house." Daisy suggested, heading upstairs but Mabel stopped her as she turned to face me, glaring hard at me.

"I'm going to say this one last time." She began, her tone dripping with venom and disdain. "Go and pack your stuffs!" She ordered in a calm but dangerous tone, which commanded attention.

"I ain't leaving!!!" I yelled out as Daisy flinched backwards in utter shock. I could tell they were shocked by my sudden outburst. Never have I ever raised my voice at anyone.

As soon as I yelled out, I instantly regretted it as my mom strolled towards me fiercely, her face twisting into a menacing scowl.

"How dare you? You filthy bastard!!" She growled, landing a heavy slap against my cheek as I cried out at once, holding on to my cheek. It stung badly.

"What? You forced me to get married to a man I know nothing of and now you expect me to return back home. Am I just a pawn in your games? Why am I always treated this way? You treat Daisy so much better. Aren't you my mother??" I couldn't stop myself from yelling out. It hurts badly, tears streamed down my face, hurt evident in my tone.

"You fool…how dare you raise your voice?" Mabel said, raising her voice a bit as she charged at me again but Daisy stopped her.

"I've got this mom, just wait here." Daisy muttered, trying to calm her down as she nodded slowly.

"And where the hell did you vanish to? You vanished to God knows where and I was forced to take your place and then you returned out of the blues, and you expect me to…" I questioned hurtfully.

"Save it!!…you have no right to question me." She cut in rudely with a hand wave as she glared at me first before walking away, heading up the stairs, leading to my room. My head clicked as my eyes trailed her, I already knew what she was up to.

My gaze narrowed as I followed her instantly. She got to my room as she barged in aggressively and began throwing out my stuffs. She pulled out the box without hesitation as she began pulling it out of the room.

I tried to stop her but she pushed me aside as my back crashed on the wall, sustaining a bruise. I yelped out in pain but this wasn't the time to cry yet.

"Stop this…" I warned but she proved stubborn as she began taking it down the staircase. I rushed to her as I began struggling with her, trying to take it from her.

She pushed me once more as I held on to the railings, trying to maintain stance.

"Let it go Daisy!" I yelled as we continued with the struggle.

Everything happened so fast, her face suddenly contorted in rage as she shoved me backwards with all her might. My eyes widened in shock as I felt myself flying backwards.

I lost my footing, my hands flailing while i rolled down the stairs as my body bounced off each step, my head crashing into the railings. I tumbled without friction, my limbs aching badly as I finally came to a stop at the bottom of the staircase.

Gasps rented the air as I lay motionless, a pool of blood forming around my head. Slowly, my vision became blurry as everywhere eventually went pitch black.
