DAPHNE
"No!! Come back!!" I heard a little boy yell. I could hear my young self laughing out loud as I took to my heels, ignoring his calls. As I ran, my hair seemed to obey the caution of the wind as I smiled gracefully, enjoying every bit of my play time.
"Come back!" He yelled once more as I spun around, laughing hysterically as I stuck my tongue out at him, shooking my head stubbornly. I spun around, taking to my heels once more when I suddenly lost my footing and fell. Unfortunately, it was a slopy area as I began rolling down the hill, crashing into stunts and pricking my flesh with thorns.
"No!!!" The boy shrieked loudly in fear as I suddenly fluttered my eyes open in a start. I glanced around only to find myself surrounded with white walls.
Deja vu!
I let out a gasp…was I dead already? I thought, fear gripping me instantly as I tried to sit up when my nose suddenly caught a whiff of a familiar masculine cologne.
"She's awake." I heard him say as I lay back on the bed, trying to make sense of what was happening.
Where am I ? What am I doing here?
He walked closer to me with his usual cold demeanor, his eyes held a little bit of warmth in them. "Do you feel better?" He mumbled softly as my eyes widened in shock. This was the first time I was hearing him speak softly.
I shook my head slowly, not knowing how to respond. I couldn't understand why my head ached badly. And where am I?
"My head aches…where am I?" I asked softly, my tone screaming uncertainty. He exhaled sharply, straightening his tie. "At the hospital!" He replied simply as I glanced around in suprise.
"How did I get here?" I was curious and I couldn't help but ask. Why are my joints aching so bad?
"You don't remember what happened to you?" He asked, suprise filtering into his tone as I nodded my head slowly.
"How…how…I mean where." I stuttered meaninglessly, not knowing how to ask the question I had in mind.
"You…" He began as I sat up, eager to hear what he had to say. He hesistated for a while, his lips forming a thin line. His phone suddenly rang as he walked away.
I sighed out, rubbing my temples. My head was bandaged and the more I tried to recall what led to this, the more it ached. And the nightmare I just had, I completely shoved it out my head. It was confusing and I couldn't read any meaning to it.
I glanced around the ward, I was alone in it and it was really spacious. I could tell it was a VIP ward. I sat up completely, yawning out, a part of my legs and arms were bandaged.
This got me wondering what nature of accident I had that could have led to all this.
I had to stop myself from thinking further because it made my head ache more.
The door opened once again and this time, God Father Marcus came in first, his choky aura filling the ward as I gulped down nothing.
Cassius came in after him as he strolled towards me and sat, gently placing my hands in his. I noticed Marcus's eyes linger at our intertwined hands for a while before he looked away, clearing his throat.
"Do you feel better?" He asked concernly as I nodded slowly. I couldn't say no…even if I didn't feel any better.
"Too bad our dinner date got canceled. But don't worry too much about it. Once you get better, we'll catch up." He muttered, throwing Cassius a wistful gaze. My gaze squinted a bit at that action but I shook it off, not wanting to give it much thought.
I nodded simply as Cassius squeezed my hands gently, trying to seem romantic. If only he knew that he suck in acting, he won't be doing this. His eyes were devoid of emotions, it remained as cold as ever and his rocky face refused a smile.
Why was he so cold hearted? I overhead from Aunt Nancy that he had never been seen with a lady throughout his high school to his college days. Was he scared to fall in love and get hurt? Or was he hurt by someone in his past?
I was curious but there's no way I could ask him about it.
Silence reigned for a while and I could feel Marcus's eyes solely on me. I suddenly felt strange as my body tensed up a bit. My eyes met with his as he instantly glanced away, clearing his throat nervously.
"I'll be in the lobby." He uttered as he walked out without a backward glance. I stared at his retreating back in confusion, something didn't seem right.
I eventually got discharged and we returned home.
"Avoid the staircase for now….use the room downstairs instead." He stated as I turned to glance at the staircase. Suddenly, like a speed of lightening, everything came rushing back to me as I shook my head slightly.
Daisy did this to me!! I couldn't say this to him, he'll get suspicious about the fact that I ain't his real bride.
But at that moment, I was beyond shocked to caution myself.
"Daisy…Daisy." I mumbled in horror, staring at the staircase. I could imagine myself rolling down the staircase once more as my head crashed on the railings with a sickening thud.
Cassius halted on his tracks on the staircase as he spun around, staring at me with a blank look.
He began strolling towards me, his face twisting into a scowl every moment until he finally got to me.
"Tell me something huh!" He mumbled as I furrowed my brows, expecting the worst. His eyes threw ablaze daggers at me.
"You ain't my real bride…who the hell are you?" He growled darkly in a deep husky tone, causing cold shivers to run down my spine.
I already knew I was definitely screwed!!
