Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: Teacher, Teacher

===May 23 1993===

Early in the morning Harry gets up for the day having barely slept. He quietly grabs clothes and gets a shower before slipping out of the dorm and common room using his invisibility cloak. He walks towards the Room of Requirement when he sees Snape and remembers he promised him a man to man conversation. Once he sees that there's no one else around he takes off his cloak, Snape immediately spots him.

"What are you doing out of your dorm so early, Mister Potter?" Snape snaps.

"I've not been able to sleep more than a couple of hours at best since the Chamber." Harry admits. "I was trying to clear my head. Then I remembered that you wanted to have a conversation, I didn't figure you wanted your Slytherins seeing you with a Gryffindor."

Snape sighs. "Very well, Mister Potter, follow me."

Harry quickly and quietly follows the potions teacher down to the dungeons. Snape opens the door to his office, ushering Harry in. Harry looks around the room, various flasks and vials sit around the room. After the chamber Harry wonders how many of them are dangerous. A couple of photos hang with his potions mastery certificate. A heavy looking metal desk dominates the room with a couple small metal chairs sitting facing the desk. Snape sits at the desk and motions for Harry to sit.

Harry pulls out his wand and transfigures the chair into a plush comfortable chair then sits down.

"Of course Minerva taught you that."

"Actually she taught Hermione, who taught me. If you want to split hairs."

Snape nods. "Somehow I'm not surprised. Miss Granger is a fast learner."

"You can say that again." Harry muses. "Now how about we have that conversation, Severus?"

Snape sighs. "So, you're the heir of Gryffindor?"

"What gave it away?"

"Materializing a sword."

"That was new. I had no clue I could do it."

"What exactly happened?"

"I was about to give up when I heard a voice tell me not to. I realized the voice had to be Godric Gryffindor. I dug deep and found courage to continue, that's when I materialized the sword." Harry explains.

"Have you done it since?"

"I haven't tried." Harry says as he closes his eyes and feels deep inside himself. He holds his right hand out, his sword appears within it. Now that he's not in the heat of battle he looks at the sword. The blade is about 3 foot long, with a standard cruciform guard and a 10 inch handle. In spite of that the sword felt like it didn't weigh anything at all. It's then that Harry notices something on the blade. "There's some kind of writing here I think." Harry carefully shows the writing to Snape.

"Those are runes." Snape says.

"Can you read them?" Harry asks.

"You'd be better off taking it to Professor Babbling."

Harry nods and the sword vanishes. "So you knew that the heir of Gryffindor could summon a sword?"

"Any in Gryffindor's line should have the ability to do so; each of the founders supposedly had heraldic magic. Slytherin's is parseltongue. I don't know what Hufflepuff's is, and I'm not sure Professor Sprout will ever claim heirship."

"What about Ravenclaw?"

"Rowena supposedly bound her grimoire to her bloodline." Snape says.

"A book?" Harry laughs. "Somehow I'm not surprised."

"A book oversimplifies things. Rowena supposedly studied under both Morgan le Fay and Merlin. If the story has any truth to it Rowena Ravenclaw was the greatest sorceress the light side has ever had. I can only hope that her heir is on the side of light."

Harry grins. "She is."

"You know the heir to Ravenclaw?" Snape asks, surprised

"I should know her, I'm dating her."

"Miss Granger is not a muggleborn?"

"Barely, it has been around 40 generations since magic has shown up in that line. Is that really any different than a muggleborn?"

Snape shakes his head. "No, I wouldn't consider that any different."

"Me either."

"Miss Granger should be able to summon the grimoire much like you can summon your sword."

"I'll have to let her know."

Snape nods. "You do that."

"I'd appreciate it." Harry says as he gets up and returns the chair to its original state. "I won't take up any more of your time for now." He turns to leave.

"Potter," Snape calls out and Harry turns back around. "I wouldn't be against future conversations if you wanted them." Harry nods. "Next time, just don't be out so early or I will dock you points."

Harry nods as he realizes that he wasn't the only one that needed to heal. "I'll remember that."

Harry checks his watch and sees that he doesn't need to sneak to the Great Hall for breakfast. He walks in and sees it's fairly empty, he sits at the table and makes a small plate up knowing he has to keep his strength up.

"Mister Potter," the welcoming voice of Professor McGonagall says. "Can I see you in my office please?"

"Of course," Harry says as he pushes the plate aside then gets up. He follows McGonagall to her office where Ted is sitting.

"Morning Harry," Ted says as Harry walks in

"Morning Ted, everything okay?" Harry asks.

"Better than okay actually. Minerva here tells me you slayed a basilisk. Quite an impressive feat."

"Trust me, not something I wish to try again."

Ted chuckles. "I'm sure. No, I finished checking the laws, and since you dealt the final blow you own its remains. As a magical creature basilisk remains can be used in multiple ways. I've already spoken to the goblins, they are willing to carve it up into sellable items in exchange for a portion of the meat to be determined by how big it is."

"That sounds reasonable." Harry says.

"Do you know what you would like done with everything?" Ted asks.

"We'll, I'm assuming some parts would be used as potion ingredients. I'd like a portion of everything that is a known potion ingredient to be put in stasis for my use and another set sent to Professor Snape. I'd like to see if it's spell proof hide can be made into battle clothes for me and Hermione. Otherwise I suppose, sell everything except the venom, I want that stored somewhere safely. Even I can tell that would be destructive in the wrong hands."

"I think I can work that out with the goblins." Ted says.

"Is there going to be any problems getting the goblins into Hogwarts?" Harry asks.

"The headmaster would have to let them in." McGonagall says.

Harry nods. "It's time I talked to him anyway."

"I'll await word from you." Ted says.

Harry nods and heads to Dumbledore's office. The griffin moves as he approaches, he goes up the stairs. Dumbledore is sitting at his desk when Harry comes up the stairs. "Mister Potter, what can I do for you?"

"Ted tells me I own the corpse of the basilisk." Harry says. "The goblins are willing to butcher it up for me."

"I see, you need me to let them in. That's what finally brought you up here by yourself." Dumbledore says.

"Yes," Harry says coldly. "What's your answer?"

Dumbledore looks Harry in the eyes. "Don't you want to talk first?"

Harry stares Dumbledore down. "Why would I want to talk to you? As far as I can tell all you've done is try to make my life miserable!"

"I assure you that was not my intention."

"Could have fooled me." Harry says, then turns to leave only for Lucius to come into the room with Dobby following behind him. Harry gasps when he sees Dobby, but Dobby holds his finger up in front of his lips.

"Mister Potter," Lucius says. "I hear you saved the day."

"I just did what needed to be done." Harry says.

Lucius nods. "Was it really the dark lord's diary?"

Dumbledore pulls the ruined diary out and hands it to Lucius. "I understand this used to belong to you."

"A long time ago." Lucius says as he examines the diary. "What happened to it?"

"I was forced to destroy it." Harry says. "After I defeated the monster that was in the chamber."

"The chamber is real?" Lucius asks.

"It is."

"What was the beast?"

"A basilisk." Harry says.

"A couple transfigured roosters took care of it." Dumbledore says.

Harry wonders why Dumbledore would lie to Lucius, but seeing Dobby here makes him wonder whose side Lucius was on.

"So fell the king of snakes." Lucius says with a sigh. "The diary is of no use to me, keep it if you want." He hands it to Harry who takes it and puts it in his robes. "I'm glad to see everything turned out well." He turns and leaves.

Harry waits just a moment and goes to leave. "Mister Potter, I'll let the goblins in." Dumbledore says. "Tell them to show up right before the students leave for summer so you can let them in."
