Did she hear everything and see everything that happened? The question burned in Aidan's chest as he stared at Anna, her face frozen in shock.
He could see the confusion in her eyes even now, as though she were still piecing together what exactly he'd done to scare them off.
Anna had heard the gunshot and peeked from behind the building she was hiding to see Aidan's car going in circles. She had seen how the men retreated back to their van and took off.
After the men had left, she wanted to come out of her hiding when she heard a familiar voice over the phone. It made her halt and then she heard Aidan barking. "Don't underestimate me, Kathryn!"
That stopped her cold, and everything else was in a blur as Anna had been too transfixed to hear anything else.
When his name flashed across her phone screen, she had finally walked closer to the car, only to stop short at the sight of the two men on the ground, either dead or unconscious.
Fear coiled deep inside her.
