It was already 9 a.m., and Sophie still hadn't come home.
Kathryn paced the living room in tight, restless circles, her heels clicking on the hardwood. The door opened, and Kathryn turned back abruptly to see if it was Sophie.
But it wasn't Sophie.
It was Jessica, her best friend from Manhattan, with two other friends, sweeping in like a glamorous storm, all dressed impeccably for the wedding.
The sight of Jessica made her sigh deeply with relief. Jessica was who she needed at this time. She was already going crazy with different crazy thoughts swirling through her mind.
"Welcome," Kathryn greeted them with a forced smile that didn't reach her eyes. She could feel their stares taking in her look from head to toe, silently wondering why she wasn't dressed yet.
"Why aren't you dressed yet?"
"Where is the bride?" Jessica asked.
Kathryn flashed them another smile before moving towards Jessica. "We'll be back shortly."
