Aidan reached for Anna, but she flinched back, fear flashing in her eyes.
Her gaze searched his face, desperate for an explanation as to why he was standing here, surrounded by weapons.
But his silence only deepened her dread. A shiver ran through her, hard enough to make her breath catch. She spun on her heel and bolted for the door.
"Annalyn?" Aidan called out as he grabbed her, stopping her from taking the exit out. He spun her around, and he lunged, his hand wrapping around her arm to stop her. He spun her toward him, and she plowed into his hard chest.
They stared at each other.
The assurance she had felt, the safety, and everything she had felt with him had just vanished into thin air.
She didn't know who he was. And she couldn't think of a reasonable explanation for why he was with weapons.
What for?
Finally, she tried to wriggle out of his hold, but his hold on her was stronger. "Let go of me."
"No!"
"No?!" She scoffed, her tone thick with disbelief.
