Chapter 4 - What An Airhead

A massive gate standing at over dozens of meters high, made purely out of a black, metallic material complementing the light gray tall walls of the outer city's perimeter, said gate adorned by engravings of gold twisting and turning to create what appears to be a mural of a tower piercing through and reaching a greater sky, a higher heaven, a brilliant monument seen everyday by the people who braved the peril of the tower.

"Damn! That's one hell of an artistic piece, pity I don't dabble with art too much"

"Well, even those like us can tell its value outside of being a gate, there's a shit ton of gold there after all"

"Hahaha, that's true, I wonder what that illustration there means"

"I heard it's the purpose of the Ethereal Tower, something along the line of growing with its ascenders beyond the limits set by the heavens"

"What an ambitious meaning, hahaha"

Entertaining themselves as it appears that there are still a few more minutes before the gate opens, the beginners who are just about to go outside for the first time, along with some more amiable experienced ascender mingled with each other, with the experienced ones one-sidedly teaching the beginners about all sorts of things regarding the first floor of the tower and just the tower in general.

As this type of conversation continues, time flows at an unnoticeably fast rate, causing those conversing to feel surprised as they heard a clanking noise followed by a ray of light coming out from the middle of the gigantic gate, a hint of excitement gradually welling up in the beginners' hearts as they saw the gate gradually opening up to reveal what is outside this city, the smiles on their face that of a person who couldn't wait for something to happen.

It doesn't take too long for the gate to completely open, and with it, the outside was completely revealed to the beginners, who are all equally shocked with what they saw, it is just that their expression of this shock differs from one another, some staring at the distance dumbfoundedly as if they just saw something their eyes couldn't believe, some with their jaws hanging down as their mind struggles to take in the view, while some other starting to shiver in either terror or curiosity as they saw the appearance of the creatures roaming around the outside.

Who wouldn't? After all, this place feels like a paradise on earth itself, with this only being the first floor, a vast fields of verdant, lively green spanning as far as the eyes can see, this place being a complete plain that allows for easy travel, with the greeneries and the landscape being quite astonishing as well, as just a little bit from the distance, one can see a large river running with crystal clear water cutting right in the middle of it a wooden drawbridge standing solid and safe, despite being affected by the tests of time.

As for the creatures around them, while it is no different in appearance when compared to the usual animals that one can see outside the tower, their massive sizes along with the odd accompanying features makes them feel quite unique, some extraterrestrial even some breed of cows roaming around sporting extra pairs of horns in them, some looking almost demonic given their horns and the red skin covering them, while some appears even more adorable than their outside world's counterpart.

Summing it up, the newbies felt quite overwhelmed that observers can easily separate them from the ones who already have an experience in going outside the city, said people leisurely walking forward as some of them even rush towards the monsters and animals roaming all around, clearly intent on taking said animal for themselves.

After a few more moments of being frozen in shock, the beginners woke up and come to realize that they are not here to dilly-dally, that they are here to make a name for themselves, and what better way they can do so that earning levels from killing those monsters surround the city, harvesting them of their materials and selling them in the city in order to gain more resources to even better themselves, repeating this cycle until they achieve what they want, a cycle that everyone goes through when they decided to enter the tower.

"Look at them go…" seeing the excited beginners looking like people who would eat others alive as they start hunting, the young man couldn't help but smile as he recalls his earlier days in the tower, something all too dangerous as episodes like this might just make him waste quite some time, luckily for him someone saved him from wasting a lot of time.

"Hey Azrael, are you sure you want to just stand there instead of going out?" patting him from the back, the young man snapped back awake as he heard a slightly olden voice with a cheerful tone to it talk to him, making him feel a bit surprised before he takes a look at whoever it is that wakes him up.

"Ah, Old Sylas, thank you for that" seeing the figure a head smaller than him, the young man bowed slightly before he started running towards the outside as well, confusing the older man as he shouted in question.

"Thank you for what?"

"Just because, anyway, I have to go" the young man replied in a shout as well before he starts picking up his pace, his movements being faster and faster as time goes by, making the ones familiar with him wonder whether this young man really is still someone who have yet to ascend to the second floor of the tower.

Meanwhile, hearing his words just made the older man all the more confused, shaking his head as he leisurely walked outside the city as he called the young man names.

"What an airhead" he mutters to himself before he unsheathes two short swords from the scabbards hanging around his waist, intending to deal with the monsters that come along his way as he heads deeper into the field of the tower's first floor.
