Chapter 63 - Chapter 63: Four Kings Gather Ten Thousand Dragons Submit

From the vast sky above endless streams of auspicious purple light poured down like a celestial tide. The beams bathed East Dragon Island in a sacred glow filling the air with a sense of destiny. Trees swayed toward the heavens in reverence and every living creature from the smallest insect to the mighty beasts lowered themselves in worship as though paying homage to a supreme sovereign.

Within the colossal cauldron at the heart of the island the cocoon of pure violet cracked again and again releasing sharp sounds like the snapping of crystal. Through those cracks a pair of eyes slowly opened revealing an aura of unmatched nobility.

Hun Miesheng stood with his hands clasped behind his back his gaze fixed on the cocoon. Even he a figure who had stood unshaken through countless battles felt a faint tremor in his heart. The pressure that came from that bloodline was ancient and absolute touching the deepest instincts of his being.

Far to the west West Dragon Island was alive with tension and anticipation. The flattened mountaintop had been remade into a grand square and today it was filled to the brim with figures. On the ground stood ranks of armored soldiers forming a sea of black and steel while the air above teemed with experts hovering in place their auras cutting the sky like blades.

To the west stood the West King's Dragon Armor Army in flawless formation. To the south the South King's Barbaric Dragon Army waited their massive weapons gleaming in the sunlight. To the north the North King's Blood Fiend Army radiated a killing intent so thick it seemed to seep into the ground itself.

Three Kings had gathered each with their full strength at their backs. Though their faces wore masks of calm the air between them was charged with killing intent that pressed on all who stood nearby. This was no mere gathering but the long awaited Three Kings Contest for the throne.

It was a historic moment. The one who emerged victorious would unite the entire Taixu Ancient Dragon Clan beneath their rule. As for East Dragon Island a land without royal bloodline in the eyes of many they were destined to serve as little more than a subordinate force under the new ruler.

At the center of the vast square the three factions stood in a triangular standoff. By the West King's side was Xia Ao the commander of the Dragon Armor Army a Dou Zun at the peak and the formidable two star Dou Sheng Xuan Mo. The South King stood with his own elite led by Man Yan commander of the Southern Army and the great elder of South Dragon Island Lie Shan himself a two star Dou Sheng. Behind them were the many elders of the island nearly the entire leadership present for this decisive day.

The North King's entourage was smaller in number but no less striking. Beside him was an elderly man with the late stage strength of a two star Dou Sheng. Most surprising of all was the presence of a young woman in a flowing cyan dress her face hidden behind a mask shaped like the face of a blue fox.

A faint smile tugged at the lips of the South King as he glanced toward the girl. "I have long heard the North King avoids women and lives only for the thrill of battle yet today at such an important moment he brings with him a girl of no notable cultivation"

The North King's expression did not shift. He ignored the jab entirely and spoke in his calm deep tone. "This is the Saintess of North Dragon Island. It is only right that she witness a grand occasion such as this"

The South King narrowed his eyes studying her closely. She did not seem to bear the aura of the Taixu Ancient Dragon Clan. His curiosity shifted into challenge and the oppressive weight of his bloodline flared around him pressing toward the masked girl.

With a flick of his sleeve the North King dispersed the pressure his tone carrying a note of warning. "Is the South King already so eager to start a fight"

The North King's army stepped forward as one the sound of their armored boots echoing across the square. The South King's soldiers responded in kind weapons raised as the air between them grew sharp enough to cut.

"Now now" a voice cut in laced with false warmth "Let us not spoil the harmony between two Kings. We are here for the contest not for needless bloodshed"

The tension eased just slightly both sides withdrawing a few steps but the undercurrent of hostility remained strong.

"Since we are here for the throne then let us begin" the South King declared. "This Dragon Emperor's seat will belong to me" His bloodline power flared and every warrior without the strength of a King felt their blood roil within them threatening to burst from their veins.

"Not so fast" the West King said glancing at Xuan Mo. "We are still missing East Dragon Island"

The South King's lips curled in a cold smile. "East Dragon Island" he said with scorn. "Without royal bloodline they dare think themselves worthy to join this contest"

Laughter rippled through the West King's ranks and even some among the North King's force could not hide their amusement.

Then a voice drifted down from the sky carrying both mockery and authority. "And yet you are"

The heavens trembled faint ripples spreading through the air. The three Kings turned their eyes upward scanning for the speaker but found no trace of them.

"I am the Dragon King of East Dragon Island and future Dragon Emperor Zi Yan here to pay my respects"

The air above the square shimmered and two figures stepped forth as though from another world. The man was dressed in black his features sharp and unsettling his aura both demonic and regal. Beside him was a woman of breathtaking beauty wearing a flowing purple gown her long dark hair cascading like a river of silk.

"East Dragon Island" murmurs rose from the crowd "Could they truly be from East Dragon Island"

The North King's eyes narrowed. "Only the two of you" he asked though his tone held no true curiosity only disbelief.

Hun Miesheng took a step forward his arms folding over his chest. "Why would one need to bring an entire island for such a small matter as testing bloodlines and choosing an Emperor" His gaze slid deliberately across the assembled armies before resting briefly on the masked girl beside the North King.

The West King and South King exchanged glances both wondering if this man was truly ignorant of the stakes or simply fearless.

Then Hun Miesheng acted. With an easy motion he took Zi Yan's hand and without so much as a glance toward the West King seated himself upon the West King's own throne. "Since all are present let us begin" he said with a lazy smile.

Zi Yan hid her mouth behind her hand a soft laugh escaping her lips. The West King's face turned an angry shade rivaling that of a burning coal yet after a long slow breath he merely said "A guest from afar is still a guest. Since the four Dragon Islands are gathered let us proceed"

The Kings stepped forward into the center of the square. "This contest will judge only bloodline not cultivation" the West King announced. His eyes flicked toward Zi Yan who appeared to be no more than a Dou Zun in strength. "The victor will be recognized by all as the new Dragon Emperor"

The cry of "Dragon Emperor" rose from every throat the sound rolling like thunder across the mountaintop.

Zi Yan pressed her lips together her eyes carrying a quiet but undeniable majesty. Hun Miesheng touched her shoulder lightly. "Go"

Without hesitation she stepped forward her movements carrying a grace and authority that seemed to have grown within her since the awakening of her bloodline.

The four Kings sat cross legged in the center. Each drew a sharp line across their brow letting drops of blood fall to the ground. The blood of the West South and North Kings shone with pale gold each drop radiating a potent force that made the blood of every Taixu Ancient Dragon present quiver in response.

Three complex golden dragon sigils rose above their heads and shot upward into the sky. From them emerged colossal golden dragons their bodies swelling until each spanned a thousand feet. They took positions in the air their eyes locked on one another.

All eyes turned to Zi Yan. Yet she stood still a fine sheen of sweat on her brow as if struggling. No blood had appeared from the cut on her forehead.

"Could it be she is no royal bloodline at all" voices whispered. "Did East Dragon Island bring a commoner to deceive us"

Even the three Kings were momentarily taken aback.

Then a single drop of blood fell from her brow glowing with a color unlike any other.

Violet gold.

For one breath the world was silent.

Then power erupted.

From every clan member the phantom of a Taixu Ancient Dragon emerged and all turned toward Zi Yan bowing low. The pressure of their submission rolled across the square in waves.

In that moment all dragons submitted.
