Chapter 9 - Sweet dreams

Euthykritos quietly sat, his eyes judging both of the girls in front of him. A small sigh left his lips just a few moments later. "You know.. The mine itself was already strange, but what is this about some laboratory?" Euthykritos paused as if gathering his thoughts into place, it was clear that what he was about to talk about was something serious. "Didn't I say to not go where you're not supposed to? Well.. Simply put, that laboratory wasn't supposed to be in use and especially not so.. How do I say this.. Built. Built would be the correct word.. It was left half constructed. The city lacked funding and man power at that time, most of it was being prioritized towards a project around our borders with neighbouring nations." He paused once more, silent. He was thinking about something, maybe deciding whether to keep talking about this further. "That laboratory was not supposed to be as built as you had said it was, it was a project postponed."

His eyes narrowed as he studied the expressions on both of the girls. Up until this point Galadriel had been the only one talking. Mira hadn't said a word since they had arrived, she was in another world of her own. The only noise she made was the ever so often sharp gasp from her whenever she adjusted her seating. Most of her body was almost wrapped up in bandages, those grey eyes which used to seem like they would tear up at any moment, now, looked mature, perhaps.. Tired. Galadriel wasn't much better, her body just as beat up as Mira's. But she hadn't 'lost' her voice, she was the one who explained what happened.

"From what you told me there was also a person, right? Their appearance only fits one nation.. Well the brief look of their skin you saw. They're from Zalia.. Were currently in Aqenie." Euthykritos stood up from his seat and quietly made his way over to a desk, pushed up against a wall in the corner of the room. Pulling back a drawer her took out a neatly folded sheet of paper. With the small click of the drawer being closed, he made his way back to his seat. Unwrapping the map Euthykritos laid it across the small table which had been the one barrier between them. It was a map. Placing his finger on the relatively large jagged shape which had in thick letters written Aqenie. His finger slowly drifted across the smooth surface of the map to another shape, nation, which was across the ocean. It had its respective name, Zalia. "Now, it isn't my first time hearing of suspicious people around here, especially during the construction of the laboratory. But those rumours had faded relatively quickly.. But if that is what had happened, then I'll organise some other people to be sent down to check, now that the mine is safe. I'll also look into the mysterious person.. They must be with some organisation." A soft smile formed on Euthykritos's face for a moment before fading. "Do go and rest, I'll let you know when you are to help again. You have been assigned a place where you can stay in." With that Euthykritos handed Galadrial a piece of paper, with a adress and some directions and sent both of the girls off.

Galadriel and Mira quietly walked through the streets of the city, which according to the map they saw earlier, was the capital. "That person.. The one down there we saw, they.. They are not what they seem, they're deceiving." Mira quietly spoke up, it had been the first words she had said in these past hours. They were cryptic, but Galadriel didn't respond, instead she just nodded. She knew what Mira meant by that, she had felt that way too since they saw them first.

With a small click, Galadriel turned the key and opened the door. Mira quietly slipped past her into the house they were given. It was a cosy space, at least the room they entered to first. A soft carpet which led to stairs up, a kitchen and dinning area to the left and to the right a room which seemed to be a mix of a living room and a library. Mira didn't say a word, she quietly slid up the stairs, probably to occupy one of the bedrooms. Galadriel wanted to call after her, to ask her something, but.. What? With a soft click, she shut the door and headed for the stairs herself. There were 3 doors, 2 of them lead to bedrooms and the last one respectively to a bathroom. Galadriel didn't have to guess which room Mira took, she knew from the quiet yet noticeable rummaging which came from the door on the left. Galadriel slid the right door open revealing a neatly organized bedroom. A bed pressed up against a corner, a relatively large wardrobe, a desk and some paintings. In the middle of one of the walls laid a large window, letting the soft greyish light pour into the room. She still couldn't figure out how the sunlight reached down here or what was causing this day and night cycle to happen. There, neatly folded and laid on the bed were some clothes. Multiple pairs of shirts and pants and such. Quietly Galadriel changed into a new pair of clothing, setting her dirtied ones aside. She placed the rest of the clean clothing into the wardrobe. She hadn't explored the rest of the house, there probably was a place to wash her clothes. But she was worn out, tired and her mind wasn't any better. She wanted to rest and put today and these events aside. Galadriel took a seat on the side of her bed. It creaked under her movement as she slid the blanket over her body and placed her head on the soft pillow. Yes, it was time to rest, time to finally just forget. With that Galadriel's eyes fell shut and the world slowly faded into the distance.
