Chapter 13 - Careful.

The soft crashes of waves, stirred Mira awake. Her eyes slid across the room they've called home for these past days. Galadriel seemed to have already left. Pushing herself up, she slowly slid out of the bed. Sliding into a fresh set of clothing, a relatively long skirt. Some long-sleeved shirt and a leather jacker over it. Not the finest, but not the worst either. Her steps quietly echoed through the empty halls, laughter in the distance. Of course Mira was going towards it, she had good reasons to do so.

Pushing the relatively large doors open, a whiff of food hit her nostrils. The dining hall, where the crew gather for meals. "If it isn't Mira, sleeping in like always, ay?" One of the guys sitting at a larger table, Charalampos, he's rather big. Slightly darker hue of blue to both his skin and scales. He seems to almost always smile, he's pretty strong too. His remark was followed by laughter, it wasn't mocking. Rather a slight poke of fun.

Mira shot him a glare before spotting Galadriel sitting off in a corner. Grabbing a plate of food, she headed for Galadriel. Sitting opposite of her, she took a long moment before speaking. "Did you sleep well?" Galadriel quietly nodded, as she stuffed a piece of some sort of bread down her throat. "Yes, I slept just fine.." Her voice came out after she had swallowed the piece. "Hey, Mira.." Galadriel started, her voice kind of meek, quieter than usual. "Can you stop just.. Jumping into danger head first? Did fighting that thing from those mines give you such a confidence boost? What if you got really hurt? Lost a limb? Think about it for once!" Mira's fork had stopped half way, the piece of omelette threatened to slide off. "Honestly.. My life depends on you just as yours on me. We're a team, are we not?! Do you think you just get to go and die?!" Galadriel paused, taking a deep breath, a long one. Her expression was unreadable, her hands clutched into fists. "I know you want to get out just as much as I do. Our home planet destroyed and now we're stuck here. But don't you think how oddly good things have been? How you receive those comments.. You're not welcome here, are you, Mira?" Mira's fork slipped out of her hand, hitting against the plate. Moving to get out of here. "Don't you dare go anywhere!" Galadriel suddenly raised her voice, the hall died down. But soon enough the talks resumed, once Mira had slid back into her seat. "Are you hiding something from me? From all of us, Mira?"

Mira blinked a few times, her voice came out with a shake to it "No, I.. I don't know why. I'm sorry, Galadriel.." Mira's words poured out, she was being honest. She really didn't know, nor did she wish to know. "But.. You're wrong. I'm not confident. Every time I have to pick up a weapon, I can't help but wish to run away. But I can't be the same person I was down there.. If I don't move, then.." Her hands trembled slightly, as she looked Galadriel in the eyes. "Mira, just.. Don't rush into everything like that. Had the captain not helped, you would've lost a limb at best." Mira nodded slowly "I understand.. Wake me up from it if I try to do it again, okay?" Mira gave the faintest smile she could muster together.

The rest of the time in the dining hall was quiet, not a word between them. Just the background noise of the crew, people leaving the hall. Mira couldn't look Galadriel in the eye anymore. Stuffing food down, the silence was suffocating. Eventually Galadriel had left too, leaving Mira alone, with her thoughts.

Sipping on a orange liquid, her mind wandered. Slowly she shut her eyes, closing the outside world out. Falling into her minds deepest places. Mira found herself in somewhere far too familiar, the city of her home planet. Faces flashing past, words, memories. Walking through the empty streets, a single thought echoed. "Why can't I remember anything from here?" Followed by another "Why does this new world seemingly hate me?" Her mind shifted, a sharp pain ran through her body. Scenery changing, yet nothing. Nothing changed, the city remained the same. Before her mind could think of anything new she was pulled out by a familiar voice. "Hey, Mira! Still here, ay?" Charalampos sat down across her, in the spot where Galadriel had sat earlier. Mira slowly set the empty glass, a faint crack on its surface. "Something on your mind? What was that earlier, with you and Galadriel?" He asked, that same upbeat tone he always had ringing through Mira's ears. "Nothing, it was just.." Mira couldn't explain it. Of course she couldn't. Charalampos eyes narrowed for a moment, before he pulled Mira up. "Well, there is no time to sulk, help me clean up the dining hall."

Mira didn't protest, quietly cleaning the tables. Her eyes would fall onto Charalampos ever so often. She had heard how he alone defended the back of the ship. A small sigh left her lips, this wasn't what she needed to think about. Wiping the fina table clean, Mira sighed and cleaned the cloth. Waving goodbye to Charalampos she wandered through the halls of the ship.

A few hours later, a familiar ringing echoed through the ship. Yet this time it was short. Gathering onto the deck, Lysander announced that they were nearing their destination. Mira moved to the front of the ship, overlooking into the distance. Emerging past the horizon, were buildings. Too far to make out the details, but she was glad that they were finally going to be able to step onto land. Sometime along the way Galadriel had moved to stand next to her. "A new place to see, huh?" Mira said quietly, her eyes sliding over the slowly growing silhouettes of the buildings.
