Raer spent some time licking all the wounds of the boy, having to walk around or at times move him to his sides. Still when he was done, he was satisfied with his work.
Then he turned back to the still breathing animal, somewhat amazed at its endurance. A normal human would have been long dead by now especially considering those wounds.
Then again, this world wasn't normal. He was sure of that, heck, he wasn't normal any longer.
He was now just another beast...another animal.
He shook his head not wanting to deal with those thoughts now and instead decided to focus on the animal. He was about to go for the dead head first when he suddenly realized.
He was about to eat a dying animal raw, a part of him. A part of his mind wanted to do things the 'normal' way but his body and heart just wanted to dive in.
This was him now and he would have to accept it. He wouldn't become them, he wouldn't forget himself.
But he would have to work with what he is given, especially since he'd have to protect the young kid with him.
So he closed his eyes and went for the first bite, it was lush and soft. Meaty and wet with blood, it was a bit cold but the warm running blood help spice the taste.
The first bite was glorious and before he knew it, he had taken a second and third, soon fourth then he stopped counting.
He devoured the animal like a primal beast, tearing and gnawing at his flesh and bones. It was never enough, he could never satiate the hungry.
It only grew the more he ate, it only asked for more as he tried to satisfy it. Sometimes he choked and nearly feared he would die.
Wasn't too easy adjusting to this new eating method, especially his new....hands. Felt like a nightmare honestly, halfway through it all he realized they would need a way to quench their thirst.
He was a bit glad that he saw that animal close by, since it would mean their was a source of water closeby.
But then he reminded himself of that fact that the beast was no mere beast like those back on earth. Who knows how far it could have traveled or how close is close for it.
It's endurance only further supported that logic, plus he remembered the strength of the animal when it jammed into that tree.
Raer could already see himself dead if that had hit him, he could imagine his bones shattering upon impact. Crippling him and leaving him for dead.
His intelligence helped him greatly along with his new....strengths, as he decided to begin calling them. He remembered the feeling of clutching down on the animal with his jaw.
The feel of his claws digging into its flesh and obtaining a firm hold on his body. He made a mental note to check out his new body later.
For now, he needed shelter first. A way to treat the boy and get him moving.
After he had eaten a good deal of the animal who had died in the process, he decided that it was time to move the boy.
First he ran around a bit, looking for places to rest or hide him at the very least. The best he could find was a somewhat deep hold in-between a tree.
So he began his work of dragging the whole body all the way over there, it was slow and tiresome since he was careful not to tear his clothing.
Halfway through it, he realised that his could maybe use his claw hands to drag his by the leg. Sure they might not have a good grip, having one equal to that of a toddler...
Well, actually no. Toddlers had incredibly good grips especially when they grabbed you by the collar of your shirt...he reasoned.
Then what would be the best thing to compare to his current situation?
Claws...claws...a bird maybe? No, bird legs actually have incredible grips and....wait...bird legs.
Raer stopped and began to think, he could feel a certain memory trying to pop up but couldn't quite get a catch of it. He knew it will help him but he did know what it was.
Then after a minute of two it clicked, he remembered Hawks swooping in to carry of the young of chickens. He also remembered a documentary of a hawk which had done a similar thing before.
Despite their long sharp claws, they were after to carry those checks without hurting them or drooping them. He always wondered how that was possible since it always looked so loose.
He positioned his own claws to graps the boy by the leg, them began to drag. It was a pleasant surprise when he realised that the palm like part of his hands were holding him well.
It made things much easier since it could drag in greater strides now. Overall it took it a while to move everything since he had to take multiple trips, he also moved the remaining carcass closeby.
Not too close but close enough that it wouldn't take long to reach it, then he gathered some leaves and covered the boy after setting aside all his stuff that he removed from his body.
Then he laid by the foot of the boy and soon dozes off. Tired from the days work and meal. He was feeling quite hopeful about tomorrow.
Hours Later...
Raer had always been a good sleeper, he's body had always know when to sleep in or not. Sure at times it struggled with knowing that it was okay to sleep in if there was a sudden change in schedule.
But that was on rare occasions. However, when he was reborn in this new body. He had underestimated just how acute his sense had become, especially his sense of smell.
It bothered him beyong words and he found it very very hard to rest, at times even feeling like throwing up everything he ate.
The thought of that only made him want to do it more but he quickly reined in his thoughts and began thinking good positive thoughts.
There was however still the problem of that smell, covering his nose did not help hamper it at all.
" Come To Me " a voice suddenly said.
This startled Raer who jumped quickly and began searching his surroundings for anything. He saw nothing, not a sign of a living being anywhere.
On that topic, has he ever seen another living being apart from the animal he killed? Any birds or maybe even the noise of crickets in the forests.
" Do Not Resist mE " The voice said once more, it was deep and seemed to belong to a man at first.
Though it switched to the voice of a female at the end of its sentence and suddenly raised into a high pitch.
" I Can Give You Power " It said again.
Now Raer was incredibly scared, for one he had no idea who was saying that. Two, he did not know what to do.
"...No? " He replied with a confused tone, he could hear the unsureness in his own voice.
" You Can Not Run " It said again, this time laughing at the end.
" You Can Not Hide " It said once more, its voice growing louder and more closer.
" You Can Not Resist " It said, suddenly becoming calm and then it suddenly left.
Raer banged his head upon the floor, unsure whether he was dreaming or awaken. He felt a very deep pain which showed he was awake and since he remembered things very clearly...he was not imagining things.
Then suddenly the ground began the rumble, voices began to screaming from everywhere. All of it seemingly directed at Raer, he jumped back and hide himself in fear.
The ground broke apart and the bones of people escaped from its bossom. All around him, similar things occurred with skeletons seemingly coming alive.
They clawed their way from the ground and stared at him but just when he thought that he would have to fight for his dear life.
They suddenly turned and knelt down on a single knee, echoes of the voice he heard soon erupted. They sounded distant yet close, they were however focused now.
Coming from one direction, Raer looked up and reeled back in fear and disgust. There was wrongness, falseness within the existence that occupied that space.
The skeletons bowed to the existence, they bowed to the cloaked figure who seemed to stare at me.
" Corruption Is Inevitable " The being seemed to say though his voice was that Iike the one Raer had heard before.
" Direction Is All You Can Do, Do Not Resist. " It said as it took a step forward.
The air around it seemed to warp, Raer fell on his knees with tears streaming down his eyes. He wanted to run, wanted to stare away.
He couldn't but he needed to. It was wrong, false, it was meant to be hated. He stared at it with bleeding eyes, he felt his soul reel in anguish.
" Seek...." It said, its voices suddenly fading.
Like a hammer had just hit his head, Raer suddenly opened his eyes with a mix of pain, confusion and Shock.
It was all a dream....
