Star-Lord was still in a daze.
He hadn't fully recovered from the battle that had almost completely overturned his worldview.
That terrifying elemental torrent-he could only describe it that way-and the violent energy fluctuations made Peter feel like he had just witnessed a clash between gods.
Strictly speaking, his conclusion wasn't entirely accurate.
But it wasn't far off either.
Ego should be classified as a Celestial. Even if he hadn't truly reached that level, the potential was there. As for Noah, he wasn't a Celestial. His origin was that of an ordinary human born on Ego.
But after mastering a domain, Noah could no longer be described as "ordinary" in any sense.
As the Ancient One had once said, the domain was the path for future sorcerers. A bridge toward godhood.
Noah hadn't crossed it yet.
But possessing a domain alone was enough to ensure no one would underestimate him, even if he was only an eighth-tier sorcerer for now.
"This guy is probably a god," Peter thought.
Then his attention snapped upward.
A spaceship was descending straight toward them.
By its style and markings, Peter recognized it almost instantly.
"Yondu?"
Noah looked up as well.
He hadn't expected Yondu to actually rush over.
Honestly, this guy treated Peter far better than Noah had assumed.
After what happened earlier, Yondu should've been furious. Peter had embarrassed him in front of his crew. Worse, he had run off. But compared to that, there was something far more serious.
Ego.
Yondu knew exactly what happened to the children sent to that planet. Peter being found by his biological father meant his life was constantly in danger. Losing face didn't matter anymore.
Saving Peter did.
That was all Yondu cared about.
However, for the leader of the Ravagers to arrive alone in a single fighter suggested his rescue mission hadn't gone smoothly. In the original timeline, his subordinates had rebelled. Something similar may have happened here.
How Yondu dealt with it wasn't Noah's concern.
When Noah first met Yondu's crew, one description came to mind.
Rotten fish and shrimp.
That was all.
The only one worth mentioning was Kraglin.
Noah tilted his head slightly.
Then he noticed something off.
That ship wasn't slowing down.
At this altitude and distance, any proper landing required deceleration. Otherwise, it would slam straight into the ground. Even with reinforced hulls, no one wanted that kind of impact.
Yet the fighter was wobbling.
Badly.
"Oh sh*t," Peter blurted. "They're not coming to kill me, are they?"
He panicked.
Peter didn't know what Yondu had done for him. His first instinct was that Yondu had lost his mind and come to hunt him down.
Then he noticed it.
The ship was out of control.
As someone with extensive flying experience, Peter recognized it immediately. He turned to Noah and saw a faint golden glow in Noah's hand.
The next moment, the unsteady ship stabilized.
And landed smoothly.
"...That's insane," Peter thought, watching with burning admiration. "If I could do that, I wouldn't need to risk my life anymore. Just stopping ships for people would be enough."
The thought was wild.
But Peter knew better.
This wasn't something he could ever grasp.
The ship powered down.
The hatch opened.
Yondu, Rocket, Groot, and Kraglin jumped out.
Fully armed.
Except for Groot, everyone was carrying an absurd amount of weapons, as if they were walking straight into a warzone.
The moment Yondu spotted Peter, he roared.
"You goddamn idiot! Are you trying to die?"
He cursed while scanning the area.
When he saw Ego standing there blankly, Yondu moved instantly. He pulled Peter behind him and aimed his weapon at Ego without hesitation.
Only after noticing Ego's expression-and the man and woman watching nearby-did he finally relax.
Especially the man.
That man made Yondu's back go cold.
Still, he didn't lower his guard.
He knew how dangerous Ego was.
"I'm fine," Peter said after a long pause. "Why are you here?"
"I heard Ego found you," Yondu replied. Seeing Peter unharmed eased most of his worry. The rest remained because Ego was still there. "You have no idea how close you were to real trouble."
"But... it's already over," Peter said, pointing at Ego, who stood there like an idiot.
"Huh?"
Yondu and Rocket exchanged looks.
"Over?" Yondu asked slowly. "Did Mr. Finnell handle it?"
"Yes," Noah said. "I did."
He sounded bored.
Noah had already lost interest in the conversation. He was focused on the brain in front of him, searching for a way to parse the information inside.
Still, he had things to say.
"Everyone's here now, so I'll explain," Noah said, injecting magic into the brain and sitting down casually. The fight had been exhausting.
"You all saw those skeletons earlier, right?"
"Yes," Peter said. "You said they were my brothers. And something about 'seeds'?"
"Correct. Seeds," Noah replied. "Your birth-and theirs-was part of his plan."
He explained it plainly.
Ego had lived for an incomprehensibly long time. Long enough to create offspring across countless civilized planets. Long enough to leave a fragment of himself on each one.
When the time came, those seeds would activate.
The planets would be assimilated.
Become parts of him.
Whether it was conquest or instinctual reproduction didn't matter.
The result was the same.
"Complete assimilation. No survivors."
More importantly, Ego didn't create children out of love.
He needed tools.
Helpers.
His own power wasn't enough to activate all those seeds simultaneously.
In simple terms-he lacked the output.
It was also possible he was simply too old.
Ego was clearly a tenth-tier being, but age had eroded his ability to act. Noah could already feel that the planet itself was dying.
One thing still bothered Noah.
After Ego's death, Peter had lost his Celestial power.
That matched the original outcome.
But Noah had checked Peter personally.
Peter was now completely ordinary.
That made no sense.
Noah had already dismantled the bloodline theory on Earth, but it was still widely accepted across the universe. How could Ego's bloodline be so... defective?
Ego needed a child who inherited his Celestial genes to assist him.
Which meant his own power was insufficient.
Yet if Peter's power only existed while connected to Ego's planet, what was the point of finding him at all?
In the original events, Ego had said that if Peter refused, he would be used as a living battery.
That implied Peter possessed something unique.
So why did all of it loop back to Ego himself?
"Is he so old that he can't control his own power anymore?" Noah muttered, rubbing his chin. "So he needed helpers. So he had to weaken himself in combat?"
Maybe.
Maybe not.
Noah didn't care.
He could examine Ego's brain later.
In an abridged version.
A very abridged version.
Ego had lived for billions of years.
Noah was only eighth-tier.
He had absolutely no desire to die from having his mind stuffed full of memories.
