Chapter 39 - Hearts and Tulips

Chelsy had fallen sick, and Hank had brought her to his personal doctor for treatment.

Doctor Montegue asked Hank to ensure Chelsy was well rested and had good nutrition. Hank sat on Chelsy's bed and spoke in a soft and gentle voice, ''I have finally found you my mountain fairy.''

Chelsy, who had been sleeping, fluttered her eyes and spoke in a voice which sounded like a whisper. ''Gancarnagh? You came back.'' She was partially awake.

Before Hank could respond, she went back to sleep. A delicate smile tucked at the corner of Hank's lips. ''Yes my little fairy. I came back, and I will never let you go again.''

He caressed her pink cheek and pulled away the loose hair that was stuck on her face. He couldn't help but enjoy how peaceful she slept, and how beautiful she looked even while sick. He couldn't understand why he was so attracted to Chelsy.

He bent down, gently kissed her forehead, and quietly walked out of the room. Hank couldn't understand all these emotions going on wishing him. All he knew was that he had to protect her with everything he had got.

He took out his phone and dialed Daniel's number. When the call got connected, he said, ''D, I want you to give Chelsy one week off. She is in this condition as a result of over working herself and not eating properly.''

Daniel, on the other hand, asked, ''H, how is she feeling now? Hope it isn't too serious.''

Hank took a deep breath and replied, ''No D. She will be fine by tomorrow. The doctor says she needs adequate rest and proper nutrition. I won't be around for four weeks. I have a business trip to take tomorrow. Daniel, please take proper care of her, okay? You are the only one I can count on. If this trip wasn't that important, I would have canceled.''

Daniel was relieved that Chelsy was okay. ''Don't worry H. I will take care of your little fairy for you. She is in good hands.'' He gave a little chuckle.

Hank was relieved. ''Thanks D.''

He ended the call and walked back to Doctor Montegue's office. Hank gave doctor Montegue some instructions, and left.

It was the next day, and the rays of the bright summer sun shone through the airy curtains of Chelsy's hospital room.

Chelsy's eyes fluttered open. Her throat was a bit dry, and she turned by her bedside and took the glass of water that was placed on the bedside table. After drinking the water, she realized she was in a hospital gown and on a hospital bed.

The room was not a regular hospital room like the others, which were full of nurses walking in and out with their green and burgundy scrubs, clipboards plastered on the walls, and the sound of doors sliding open and shut, with screams and cries coming from the hallways.

The room was void of all the antiseptic and metallic tang of stainless steel in the open air. This room was actually a suite, which had a warm, cozy atmosphere, with a large bed, a luxurious sofa and a big plasma screen on the wall.

''Oh my goodness. Where am I? And how did I get here?'' Chelsy murmured to herself.

She closed her eyes trying to recall what had happened the previous day, but couldn't remember anything.

''Wow. What type of dream did I have last night? I thought I saw the quiet Gancarnag holding me in his arms, and even touching my face. This fever must really make me feel so delusional. Chelsy, you have finally lost it.''

She chuckled and said, ''I am sure Erica must have brought me to the hospital. But this room looks quite expensive. I am not sure whether I can afford it. I have to leave now before the bills start piling up.''

As Chelsy was thinking and contemplating how she would pay the hospital bills, there was a gentle knock on the door, and it was swung open. A man in his early fifties dressed in a white overall coat walked into the room with a warm smile.

''Hey Miss Powers. You are finally awake. I am Doctor Montegue, and I am your attending physician. How are you feeling right now?''

Chelsy smiled back at him. ''Greetings Doctor Montegue, and thank you for taking care of me. But please, if I may ask. How did I get here? Who brought me here?''

Doctor Montegue peered at Chelsy with scrutinizing eyes, as if he was trying to find something out.

He cleared his throat and responded with a warm voice. ''Miss Powers, your friend brought you here yesterday.''

When Chelsy heard this, she was relieved and said, ''Oh! Erica. I guess I will call her after this to thank her.''

Doctor Montegio looked at Chelsy with bewilderment. ''It was him who brought you here, and he said you knew him as the quiet gancarnagh.''

When Chelsy heard this, she could not believe her ears. She felt her stomach churning, and she felt goose bumps all over her body. She stuttered and said, ''What did you say? Did you just say the quiet gancarnagh?''

Her jaws dropped, and her eyes widened in disbelief, as if a sudden jolt of electricity had passed through her veins, leaving her totally and completely stunned.

''Yes, Miss Powers. And he asked you not to worry, because every bill has been taken care of.''

Chelsy didn't pay attention to what the doctor was saying anymore. So it wasn't a dream after all. He was actually here. Chelsy thought to herself.

''Did you hear what I said, miss Powers?'' The doctor asked Chelsy.

Chelsy jolted from her bed, ''Sorry Doctor. What did you say?'' She asked.

Doctor Montegue gave a little laughter and replied, ''Miss Powers, I said, you will need to stay in the hospital for a couple of days to get a much-needed rest, in order to get better fast.''

Chelsy couldn't wrap her head around this. ''But doctor Montegue, I can rest in my house, and besides, I have a job. If I don't go, I might be fired.''

''Don't worry about that, Miss Powers. Your friend has taken care of that already. By the way, here is your phone. Your friend left it here before leaving.''

Chelsy couldn't fathom what was happening. How did this quiet gancarnagh find me? Or how did he know where I lived? Chelsy thought.

''Miss Powers, I will let you rest for now. I will come back later on and check on you, okay?''

Chelsy just nodded and didn't say a word.

When Doctor Montegue left, Chelsy picked up her phone, and realized she had so many missed calls from Erica and Daniel. She dialed Erica's number.

When the phone got connected, Erica's sharp voice came from the other end. ''Chelsy? Thank goodness. We have been so worried about you. Where did you keep your phone? I have been calling since yesterday. How are you feeling now?''

Chelsy, who had placed the phone further away from her ear, due to Erica's sharp voice, said, ''Erica, I am so sorry I made you worried. I am in the hospital and didn't have access to my phone. How is work? I need to call the office and let them know I have been hospitalized.''

Before Chelsy could complete her statement, Erica chimed in. ''You don't have to worry about that, Chelsy. Mister Rivers personally came to our office, and said, you wouldn't be in the office for one whole week due to ill health. So, you need not worry about that.''

Since morning, Chelsy had been receiving shocks after shocks. ''Wait a minute. Did you say the CEO personally came to inform you guys that I will not be in the office for a whole week?'' Erica said yes.

''What is going on? I keep receiving help from every angle. It seems as if Santa is in town.''

Erica was confused and asked. ''Chelsy, what are you talking about?''

Chelsy stuttered, and quickly replied, ''Don't worry about that, Erica.''

Erica just sighed, and asked which hospital Chelsy was admitted to. Chelsy said Mount Olives Hospital. ''Wait a minute. Is that not the hospital owned by the Fitzwilliam Group? Girl, a day in that hospital is like my six months' salary. You must have saved a lot to be able to afford a night there.''

Chelsy didn't want to continue the conversation further, and said, ''Erhm. Erica, the doctor is here, and I have to go now. Take care and talk to you later.''

She ended the call and went online to check Mount Olives hospital. When she saw the reviews and standards, she couldn't help it.

''Who is this gancarnagh? And how was he able to afford my stay in this expensive hospital? This is not just a regular room, it is a suite for Christ's sake.''

As she sat there thinking and contemplating, her phone started ringing. When she checked the caller ID, it was Daniel. She cleared her throat and answered,

''Hello Sir Rivers. Sorry I missed your calls. I was...''

Before Chelsy could continue, Daniel cut her short, ''Greetings Chelsy. You don't have to apologize nor explain, okay? I am sure your teammates must have briefed you on what is going on. You have been given one week off to rest and recuperate. I know there are so many questions running through your mind right now. But don't worry, all your questions will be answered in due time. If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask me, okay?''

Chelsy took a deep sigh and said, ''Okay sir.''

He ended the call. Chelsy looked kind of lost, with so many unanswered questions.

Chelsy was served a variety of nutritious meals.

As she sat down eating, there was a knock on her door. She asked the person to come in. A nurse dressed in blue scrub, walked in with a warm smile and a bouquet of orange, white and blue tulip flowers.

''Miss Powers, there is a delivery for you.''

She walked over, and handed the bouquet to Chelsy. Chelsy's eyes shone bright with admiration as she collected them and thanked the nurse. ''Thank you.''

The nurse nodded and went out of Chelsy's room. Chelsy could not believe her eyes. Orange, white and blue tulips were actually her favorite flowers. Who might have sent these? And who knows her this much to have sent her these flowers?

She took a deep breath and read the card that was attached to the bouquet. ''Just like a flashlight in the dark, you brighten every room you walk into with your smile. May these beautiful tulips brighten your day. Get well soon. Signed, Gancarnagh.''

When Chelsy read this, she dropped the spoon she was holding.
