Kriel barely heard him; instead, he called forth his Void Domain. Suddenly, the alley plunged into deep darkness, shadows creeping toward Aric like they were alive and hungry for the light.

"Nice move," Aric chuckled, barely hiding his amusement as he raised glowing light barriers. "But it won't save you."

As the divine light surrounded him, pain pierced his core like a thousand daggers; yet instead of fading, the darkness inside him only deepened.

He hit the ground hard, body smoke-drenched but somehow still holding together. The agonizing pain coursed through him like fiery rivers, but Kriel could sense a shift beginning. He was evolving, changing into something greater.

"No way…" Aric gasped, shock washing over his face as Kriel rose, shadows swirling around him like a dark cape. His voice dropped, low and menacing. "I'm what your precious system fears, Captain. I am the darkness that swallows your light."

Aric faltered, his bravado slipping. "You're no longer just Markless; you're something else."

"Yeah," Kriel hissed, a hint of dark amusement lighting up his violet eyes. "And I'm here to take everything from you."

With a burst of rage, he lunged at Aric, shadows flooding beside him. Aric, experienced and skilled, skillfully deflected Kriel's strikes. Every collision sent shockwaves rattling through the alley, leaving chaos in their path.

In one quick move, Kriel found himself pinned against a cold, hard wall. Aric's fiery hand clamped down on his throat, cutting off any chance of retaliation.

"Such a waste," Aric said softly, a hint of regret in his voice. "With the right help, you could've been so much more."

"Spare me your pity," Kriel shot back, muscles straining against Aric's grip. "I decide who I am."

Kriel grinned through clenched teeth. "Scare me? Nah, Captain, this is about leveling up."

Suddenly bursting with energy, Kriel released a tidal wave of void energy that knocked both him and Aric back. When the dust cleared, Kriel had vanished, leaving just wisps of shadow behind.

Aric stood stunned, marks dimming as reality struck him. "Get the Temple on the horn," he urged, urgency filling his voice. "We've got a Void Walker on the loose."

As he stepped into the night, shadows twirled around him, the dim streets of Ethren Village echoing memories of battles fought and mistakes made.

"Guidance?" he scoffed, bitterness seeping into the word. "I don't need anyone telling me what to do."
