I stood at the balcony of Wintrey's mansion. The blue moon shone like a special crystal embedded in the sky. I could feel something awakening in me. I could feel the bond getting nearer and nearer, but it was weak, and I didn't know exactly where.

The wind blew my long brown hair backward. The cold made goosebumps form all over my exposed arm. This year's Blue Moon Festival is said to hold a special significance. Although it hasn't yet been revealed what it holds, some say that anyone who meets his or her mate during this period shares a more special and unique bond.

I wondered who the lucky mates were, getting bonded during the Blue Moon Festival. The entire city was lit, and people were celebrating the Blue Moon Festival, both humans and werewolves...but I can assure you, they do not know who rejoices the most. Werewolves can't be seen by humans except when in their human form.

The noise coming from downstairs was so loud. Couldn't these people have a decent party? I'm feeling sleepy as hell, and I'm hungry, but Aunt and Uncle have special guests, and the whole kitchen and living room are wrecked with the scent of alcohol.

My eyes searched through the crowd; there was a big party going on down there, but Aunt and Uncle wouldn't let me out. I'm the first daughter of an Alpha, and I was only sent here to spend some time with them. I don't have to surpass my limits.

I don't know why I feel uncomfortable, but I feel like I'm being watched. This feeling made me head into the house. I locked the door leading to the balcony and drew the curtains.

Phew. That should relieve me from the feeling.

When would these people leave? I'm thirsty! And hungry!

I went into the bathroom and had a quick bath. My hunger couldn't keep me standing for too long. Aunt had suggested that I eat something before our guest arrived, but I didn't listen and just told her I'd be alright. But I can't keep it in anymore. I checked the wall clock. It was 10:53 p.m., almost 11:00 p.m.

What exactly are they discussing?

I dried my brown hair and changed into a light red nightdress. I opened my pink drawer and took a heart-shaped lollipop from it. It wouldn't do anything but make me starve more, but it's all I need to boost my courage to go down there.

It took less than two minutes before my hunger pangs hit me hard. I went for the door and pushed it open… wait, where's Sarah? Don't tell me she went to join the party without me. She's so going to taste my wrath today, that sneaky wolf.

"She isn't here, we promise." I heard Uncle's stern voice, but I could feel the fear behind his words. What's going on, and who are they talking about? Could it be me? Or maybe Sarah?

I shrugged my shoulders. Finally, the spirit of eavesdropping on their conversation overwhelmed me because I wanted to hear more.

"You'll be dead if we end up finding her here."

I slowly walked down the stairs. From where I was, I could see Aunt in the kitchen. Her face was full of worry.

That's where I'm headed to, so I'll just get what I want and ask her what's going on. Good! Our gazes met and she broke down. I felt the urge to run to her, but she kept shaking her head in fear, giving me a sign I could barely comprehend.

Her lips were trembling violently, and it scared me to the bone. I couldn't see my uncle from where I was standing, but I could see some of the men in the room. They were all dressed in black, and they were holding guns. I'd never seen them before.

I understood immediately the message she was trying to convey. I was about to turn to leave when Sarah came into the house, using the back door, which wasn't too far from where the gangs were.

"I'm home!" she yelled, oblivious to the tense atmosphere.

A deafening gunshot made my body tremble with fear. I saw Sarah's now dead body fall to the ground. Blood was oozing from somewhere I couldn't tell, but my instinct told me it was the heart. My body stood frozen on the spot. I wanted to scream but restrained it. It wasn't even coming.

"Ahhh!" Auntie's scream soon followed. I hurriedly ran down the stairs to check on Sarah's body, tears rushing down my cheeks.

No! This can't be… She's my only cousin, my sister, and my best friend. Her heart was beating a minute ago. She was vibrant and happy, smiling, but now her face was pale and stiff. I broke into sobs as I neared her lifeless body.

"Sarah."

My heart almost jumped out of my ribcage. Another shot, silencing my aunt's scream. My uncle's voice came, laced with urgency. "Novalyn! Run!" But before he could finish, a gunshot cut him off.

My instinct already told me that. I hurriedly ran up the stairs. My tears stopped flowing, and my face was filled with determination. I needed to get out of this mess of a place and that's it. Uncle, Aunt, and Sarah are now gone. I'll mourn them later, that's if I can escape.

"You fucking liar!" I heard a loud growl in the living room and then a bang and a crash. I rushed into my room and locked the door. "Get the girl!" he ordered.

I didn't need to pack anything. My instinct told me to jump out the window, and that's it, the end means. I jumped, using the pipeline connected to my room. My room was high from the ground surface, but at this moment, my adrenaline made it look like a short distance.
