Yuki cast a pointed glance at her sister, a mischievous glint in her eyes, then set her teacup down on the table. She drew in a slow breath, as though searching for the right words, before turning to Ryosuke, who was watching her with a certain nervousness.

"Well… I have an idea for you, Ryosuke," she began, her voice gentle and steady. "And it's an idea that could really change your future."

Ryosuke and Sayuri's mother, sitting across from them, set down her own glass and frowned slightly, paying close attention.

"I have contacts in Kyoto, and it so happens that a prestigious high school might be willing to take you in after these holidays," Yuki continued, a reassuring smile on her lips. "It's a special school, with rare professional programs that open doors to exciting careers and exceptional opportunities. I honestly believe you would thrive there."

Ryosuke's mother raised her eyebrows, surprised by the unexpected idea, and shook her head gently.

"Kyoto?" she repeated, a trace of worry in her voice. "But… that's far, Yuki, really far. And you're thinking of changing schools in the middle of the year? That could be difficult for Ryosuke. The pace, the adjustment… this isn't a decision to take lightly."

Yuki nodded.

"I understand, Kaori," she replied calmly. "But this high school is truly an opportunity. It's a renowned school, with a diverse program, and it would offer him a richer education with subjects he wouldn't find anywhere else. Not to mention, I could make the transition easier. I'd handle everything—from the paperwork to the formalities. And I'd be there to support him… I really believe it's an opportunity worth seizing."

Ryosuke listened attentively, though he said nothing, watching the faces around him.

His aunt's approach was direct. Knowing his mother, Ryosuke already expected she would need plenty of convincing.

Part of him hoped his mother would refuse. Kyoto didn't really appeal to him. It didn't even fit with his plans.

If I'm in Kyoto, then my project with Suguru might get complicated…

Sayuri, meanwhile, suddenly seemed unsettled. Her face had darkened, and she stared at her plate with an unusual intensity. Her cheerful expression had vanished, replaced by an unexpected sadness gliding through her eyes.

She finally murmured, barely audibly:

"If he leaves… he won't be here with us anymore."

Her broken tone caught everyone off guard, and Yuki, noticing the little girl's distress, gently stroked her hair.

"Don't worry, sweetheart," she whispered softly. "Even if he's in Kyoto, he'll never be too far. He'll come back often—on holidays, on weekends. You'll be able to talk to him every day if you want, in video or by message. And… you'll be so proud of him when you see everything he'll accomplish."

But despite her aunt's comforting words, Sayuri stayed quiet, her gaze lost in thought. She glanced at her brother from the corner of her eye, but when their eyes met, she quickly looked away, choosing instead to stare at the slice of cake in front of her. She took a bite absentmindedly, though she seemed completely elsewhere.

Ryosuke rested a comforting hand on her shoulder. He leaned closer, whispering tenderly in her ear.

"Hey, little rascal… you know, even if I leave, I'm not just going to disappear. You don't seriously think I'd leave you all alone to forget me that easily, do you? No way. We'll write long letters, and I'll come back often, so you can tell me all your secrets—and so I can keep teasing you a little more."

Sayuri gave a faint smile, though her eyes still shimmered with the melancholy she tried to hide.

"And besides," Ryosuke added in a mock-serious tone, "I'm going to need someone to keep me updated on everything happening here. You'll be my spy, okay?"

That remark finally coaxed a real smile from Sayuri, who nodded gently, visibly a little reassured.

As Sayuri began to regain some of her good mood, a soft meow caught her attention. Yuri had just padded into the room. He walked up to Sayuri, rubbing himself against her legs before hopping lightly onto her lap.

Sayuri looked at him tenderly, running a delicate hand through his silky fur. Yuri's purrs filled the room like a soothing little melody. She smiled, stroking the kitten with love as he settled comfortably on her lap, eyes half-closed.

"Well, Yuri, at least you'll stay here, won't you?" she murmured, a sad smile tugging at her lips.

Ryosuke, watching the scene, smiled as well.

"I think he'll be keeping an eye on you for me, Sayuri. And if he's going to be a spy, I'll want a full report from him too, alright?"

Sayuri let out a soft giggle, and Yuri lifted his head with a curious meow, as though responding himself to Ryosuke's words. The kitten rubbed against Sayuri once more, insisting she keep petting him.

Sayuri and Ryosuke's mother, still seated at the table, watched her children with a tender gaze.

As for Yuki, she rose quietly and set a warm hand on her sister's shoulder.

"This isn't an easy decision, Kaori, I know that. Take the time to think it through. I'll be here to help, whatever you decide."

Sayuri continued to stroke Yuri, who was still purring contentedly.

Kaori let out a soft sigh, glancing at her two children.

"I understand your intentions, Yuki, and I thank you for them. But this decision…" She hesitated, looking her sister in the eyes. "This decision can't be taken lightly. There are too many things to consider. Ryosuke has his life here, his friends, and besides…"

"I understand, Kaori, truly," Yuki replied in a soft, reassuring voice. "We can talk about it later, just the two of us, when things are calmer. It's only a suggestion, nothing more."

---

Ryosuke closed the door to his room, his thoughts swirling, his stomach still heavy from the cake—though even more from his time in the forest with his aunt Yuki.

He let himself drop into his desk chair, letting out a half-amused, half-thoughtful sigh. During dessert, he had been careful not to reveal his emotions, but now, alone in the quiet of his room, he could finally let go.

He stretched out his hand before him, staring at his palm.

A slow smile spread across his lips. Now that he understood his power a little better, he could push his experiments further, test his limits. These holidays would be the perfect chance to try new techniques, to surpass himself.

Tonight, Yuki had shaken the calm of his plans: Kyoto… The idea of leaving his hometown to move to the old capital, far from his family and friends, made him hesitate. His first reaction had been to reject the idea, to cling to his routine. After all, he already had plans here, people important to protect, and a secret project.

Yet, as he thought about it more calmly, he began to see the opportunity from another angle. An idea was taking root inside him, growing clearer and more exhilarating: why not make Kyoto his own territory, a place where he could assert himself and become a power in his own right? Tokyo was under Satoru's protection, and even though he was an imposing figure, perhaps it was time for Ryosuke to find his own path elsewhere.

He chuckled inwardly at the thought: the day his name would echo through the dark alleys and schools of Kyoto, people would remember that a boy with unusual talents had taken his place. Yes, that prospect thrilled him far more than he wanted to admit.

With a decisive gesture, he clenched his fist.

"Kyoto it is," he murmured in a determined voice.
