Ryosuke closed his bedroom door and gently set the kitten down on the floor. The little creature shook its head and immediately began exploring the room, its tiny paws padding across the carpet.

Ryosuke sat at his desk, arms crossed, watching the small animal with a thoughtful gaze.

"You're officially adopted now," he murmured with a crooked smile. "You're lucky my mom's been in a good mood lately."

The kitten froze, its ears twitching, then knelt down with its front paws stretched forward as if bowing.

Then, against all expectations, a faint but perfectly clear voice echoed in the room.

"My god... thank you for taking me under your protection," meowed the kitten reverently, head bowed. "I am eternally grateful for this gift of life."

This was no ordinary cat. It was the very one he had "met" during his experiment in the alleyway. He had pushed his tests far beyond what he had initially planned, altering not only the cat's body but also its soul and mind, turning it into a creature with human-level intelligence and the ability to speak, among other enhancements.

A cute kitten in appearance, but the reality was far darker and more terrifying.

The first chimera of a long series to come.

Ryosuke leaned forward slightly, arms still crossed, a calm smile on his lips. "Well, well, well. What is your mission?"

The kitten raised its head, its eyes gleaming with an almost human light. "My mission is to protect your sister, goddess Sayuri, with my life. Also, I must never speak in public unless given permission by you."

Ryosuke nodded, satisfied with the response. "Perfect. Don't you ever fail this mission. You have more than enough capacity to fulfill it."

"Of course," the kitten replied, bowing its head, its voice brimming with devotion. "Serving the sister of my god is an honor I shall not take lightly."

Ryosuke rose from the desk and approached the window, hands in his pockets, eyes lost in the glow of the night.

"My experiments are progressing faster than I expected," he murmured to himself, a trace of satisfaction in his voice. "But this is only the beginning. If I can turn a simple cat into a predator, what's stopping me from going even further?"

The kitten remained still, patiently awaiting its next orders. Ryosuke turned to it with a resolute expression.

"It's time to increase the difficulty."

Ryosuke sat back at his desk. He moved his hand to the mouse and woke up his computer. The screen lit up, revealing his familiar wallpaper: a nighttime scene of an empty city, dimly lit by scattered streetlights.

He gave a quick glance at the kitten, now curled up in a corner of the room, silent, eyes half-closed. He couldn't wait to see his sister's reaction when she saw it. Speaking of which, he also had to find a "gift" for his mother.

Ryosuke smiled slightly before turning back to the screen.

He opened his browser and started looking for information on abandoned and eerie places nearby. Abandoned school... deserted hospital... crumbling prison... His fingers glided over the keyboard with calm precision.

He remembered the words from the manga: it was in places like these that curses hid.

Ryosuke, who initially thought he'd practice quietly on plants and animals, now felt a new confidence building inside him. He had tasted the power of his ability, and he knew he was capable of far more. The cat had only been a first step. Now, he needed to face real curses.

He quickly typed "haunted abandoned places Tokyo" into the search bar. Results appeared almost instantly, and he clicked on several of them. Articles about deserted schools, psychiatric hospitals closed for decades, and even cemeteries rumored to harbor wandering spirits scrolled across the screen. But he needed a particular kind of place, somewhere curses gathered in large numbers—a place ideal for confronting these wretched beings and testing the true extent of his abilities.

Ryosuke rubbed his chin thoughtfully. He suddenly recalled the story of Yuta and Toge. They had faced especially powerful curses in an abandoned school. But if that had already happened in the manga, it was probably in May. He frowned and checked the date on his computer: July. That had already passed.

"No matter," he murmured to himself.

He continued browsing the results. The further he went in his search, the more the excitement built inside him.

Ryosuke clicked on a link that caught his attention: an old psychiatric hospital, located an hour outside the city. The place was known for paranormal phenomena, and rumors claimed no one had dared approach it for years. The idea that powerful curses might dwell there seemed more than likely.

A thin smile curved his lips.

"Perfect."

He leaned back in his chair, satisfied with his choice. It was decided. He'd go there tomorrow morning.

He needed to gain experience, and there was no better way than to dive into a place where curses thrived.

He thought back to his earlier experiments with plants, then to the cat. Manipulating living beings came more naturally to him than he'd expected, but facing curses would be a different story. Jujutsu battles weren't just about powerful spells—they required mental readiness, physical endurance, and above all, the ability to anticipate the opponent's moves.

Ryosuke straightened up, turning off his computer.

"Tomorrow will be a big day."
