The next morning, Ryosuke woke up with the sun already high in the sky.
It was Sunday.
He stretched deeply in bed, savoring the quiet around him.
But even though his body craved rest, his mind wasn't at ease. His thoughts kept circling back to what he'd discovered the day before: his power, as impressive as it was, was limited by his own understanding of the world around him. He lacked knowledge.
His abilities might seem vast, but he had no real idea how to use them to their full extent. That frustrated him. How could he hope to unlock his full potential without understanding the laws that governed the very elements he manipulated?
Sitting on the edge of his bed, Ryosuke paused to think. If he wanted to grow stronger, he had no choice: he had to study. Just thinking about it made him smile. Studying… Just a few days ago, he would have groaned at the idea of cracking open a textbook. Now, he found himself excited by the prospect.
What he had once dismissed—subjects like physics or chemistry—now appeared to him as a treasure trove of untapped knowledge. Science might be the key to mastering and refining his techniques.
He jumped up, suddenly driven by this new motivation. Walking over to his desk, he rummaged through his drawers in search of his old schoolbooks. He pulled out a stack of thick, dust-covered manuals that had long been abandoned in a corner. One by one, he laid them out: physics, chemistry, mechanics… Everything he had once ignored was now right in front of him.
He wiped the dust off the covers with a sweep of his hand and opened the first book, flipping quickly through the pages.
The opening lines looked familiar, but dull. He'd studied all this in high school, never really paying attention. Terms like "gravitational force," "kinetic energy," and "exothermic reactions" had never caught his interest. But now, they echoed differently in his mind.
He spent the day like that, buried in his books, occasionally pausing to consider how the concepts might apply to his abilities.
While studying forces, he realized some of his movements were directly affected by physical laws he had previously ignored. Gravity, for example, played a crucial role in how he jumped or managed quick movements. With better control over that force, he might be able to manipulate his weight, slow his falls, or even levitate for short distances.
Time flew by. It was already the afternoon when he finished a chapter on potential energy. Ryosuke put down his pen and leaned back in his chair, eyes tired but mind buzzing.
It was the first time he'd ever felt so excited about learning. Normally, a study session like this would have seemed endless and boring, but this was different. Each new discovery made him want to learn more.
Night eventually fell, and still, he didn't feel like stopping. But his growling stomach reminded him that he'd barely eaten all day.
He went down to the kitchen, grabbed a plate of dinner leftovers, and sat at the table.
"So, what were you doing in your room all day?" his mother asked curiously, not looking up from her book.
"Nothing special," Ryosuke replied with a shrug. "Just reading a bit."
"Really? You, reading? That's a first," she said with a teasing smile.
Ryosuke smiled back, choosing not to say more. He ate quickly and headed back upstairs to resume reading until he drifted off into a deep, restful sleep.
Monday morning came quickly, bringing with it the final week of school before summer break. But unlike usual, Ryosuke wasn't eager to finish classes and enjoy his free time.
No, he had a new mission: to learn everything he could to perfect control over his powers. Every day after school, he came straight home and locked himself in his room with his books.
At first, it was tough. He struggled to dive back into concepts he'd neglected for so long. Some ideas made no sense to him, and he had to start from the basics. Newton's laws, simple chemical reactions, wave theory… it all felt both familiar and distant. But as he pushed forward, the puzzle pieces slowly began to fit together.
One day, while studying particle motion, he figured out how to manipulate the air around him to move faster, or even generate gusts of wind. The next day, he tackled thermodynamics and realized he could alter the surrounding air temperature to enhance his techniques. Even electromagnetic phenomena, which had always seemed abstract, began to make sense.
The week flew by, and thanks to his determination, Ryosuke grew increasingly comfortable with these complex concepts. He had always known his power was immense, but only now did he truly grasp how much he could do. Each discovery fueled his desire to learn more.
On Friday night, after closing a book on organic chemistry following a long study session, Ryosuke stretched with a satisfied smile. He had made huge strides in just one week. Of course, there was still a lot to learn, but he felt ready—ready to use this knowledge to push the limits of his abilities and discover what he was really capable of.
Summer vacation was going to be exciting.
