Chapter 7 - The Pull of Heat

I stood tall on my four paws, but they felt clumsy at first. I was breathing hard from the new sensations. All my senses were heightened to the max. Everything was louder clearer and shaper to the edges. And God his smell…was intoxicating I felt like I was drunk on it. a whine whimpered out before I could stop it.

Finally, magna answered after a long thought of silence. "Now we run." Without a second to lose I took off. I could feel the wind in my fur. The trees swinging from my speed. I could feel the dirt in between my claws. It was exhilarating. I felt freer than I ever felt before. I was unstoppable.

I felt a wolf run a little farther ahead of me. When I took in the scent I could tell it was Simon. He was much faster at running than me. One second, we were humans and the next we were powerful wolves. His wolf was way bigger than mine. He was black with silver streaks just like mine. He looked powerful. And the more I watched him, the more heat was forming in places it shouldn't be.

We stopped near an edge overlooking a waterfall and shifted back. The second time was much easier. Most of the pain I felt before didn't even hit me this time. "Wow that…was amazing. I feel so free…and naked." I couldn't help but laugh at the thought. I was standing here on the edge of a cliff with a naked man while I was naked myself. "You did very well for your first time. Most wolves need meds after their first shift." He looked at me and smiled. And the heat was still there. I could see in his eyes that he felt it too. I didn't know why I was so horny suddenly, but it was way too much to hold back.

Without a thought left I pulled him into a kiss. My tongue met his and I groaned. My hands started to run through his hair. My body moved as close to him as it could. His scent surrounded me and that was it. whatever this feeling was it took over. "Meghan stop. This is your first shift, and it puts you in heat." I didn't listen. My hand roamed down and grabbed on to his impossible length. It was as hard as I was horny. "Meghan…pure wolves are very fertile in there first heat. Calm down. It's okay." That stopped me. So that's what this feeling was. A heat. I pulled away and looked down in embarrassment. The mood hadn't eased but his words hit hard enough in my brain that I couldn't continue.

"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry I shouldn't…- "he cut me off with a slow gentle kiss. He let off a soothing scent that calmed the inner part of me that was still screaming. "Stop. It's not that I don't want to. But wolves are weak and sensitive after their first shift. I don't wanna hurt you, okay? Trust me, I want nothing more than to have my way with you/ but your health and wellbeing is more important to me.

I whimpered but I forced my body and magna to calm down. When she calmed a bit, my legs felt like jelly. I started to fall but Simon caught me. "let's get you back the bedroom and rest." He carried me the whole way through the woods. The smell of the house still soothed me. He never let me walk on my own.

When we reached his bed, he laid me down gently and covered me with my blanket. But as soon as walked to get his blow-up bed, the feeling kicked in again. I turned my face into the pillow trying to catch his scent. When I couldn't find it there, I sniffed the comforter. But he still hadn't slept in the bed with me since I arrived and we only fueled around twice. So, his smell wasn't on either. I started to thrash around for anything that remotely smelled of him.

At the same time, I was humping anything that would give me friction. I couldn't help the frustrated growl that came from me. Simon paused in the doorway when he heard it." What's wrong?" I looked at him with a shaking voice. "I can't smell you. It's making this heat worse. I need your scent if I'm gonna get through this without sex. He watched me for a moment. I could tell he was suffering just as much as I was.

He walked over to the closet and pulled out the blanket he'd been sleeping with on the pull-out bed. "Here let's switch our blankets. That way we can smell each other." I inhaled it the minute he covered me. Why was his smell so intoxicating? Then as I watched his movements, he started to put the air mattress down. Once again, I would be sleeping in bed alone. Tonight was the last night I wanted to sleep alone. I was fuming from the mouth I couldn't stand it. "Simon, after everything that's happened, I am not sleeping alone. Aren't you my mate? Mates are supposed to be close. And that includes sleeping together…- "

"ENOUGH." I felt the air and everything in between flicker around me. It was like a command and my wolf was obeying. His voice was deeper than I had ever heard it. The walls echoed off the ceiling. Then I thought about the ceremony." where's the alpha? Why isn't he helping me?" I remember Olivias words now. "He is helping, just let go Meghan." It felt like my ears were deaf. The puzzle finally clicked together. "You…you're the alpha."

I watched fear and guilt wash over his face instantly. He didn't deny it so I was right. My blood spiked with fear. "All this time….and you've been lying to me? How many more lies have you kept from me?" he tried to step closer to me, but I pushed back on the bed. He put hands up and took a breath. "Meghan breathes. No one wanted to scare you. Not before you shifted it would have made the pain worse." I pulled the blanket up and fell back until I hit the headboard. The man that was my mate was also the alpha. And now I understood why there was no luna. That was the scariest thought of all.
