The moon was full tonight. It was quite beautiful for a ceremony like this one. My heart was beating so fast I thought it might explode in my chest. This time under the oak tree all members of the clan were in a circle drinking and chanting. BLOOD MOON PACK! BLOOD MOON PACK! Every single one of their eyes was yellow along with mine. Id never seen my eyes this shade before. Most of them looked at me like they were trying to figure me out. Some were just curious, and some were a little skeptical of me. That was not a good thing.
Liv gave me a little white dress. It was her way of looking pretty and not losing something I cared about when I shredded it during my shift. It was so long past my ankles I had to hold some of it up to walk. It was so delicate to shredded, but it was cheap.
"Liv, will you tell me who the alpha is? No one will tell me anything. Does this clan not have an alpha?" liv gave a pouty sigh and stepped us back from the crowd. "We do have an alpha, but I can't tell you anything else. You'll meet him soon, don't worry about it. Your focus should be staying in tune with magna."
She still wasn't budging. I crossed my arms and blocked her path. "that's not an answer. Ive been with you all since this morning. What are you hiding from me?" she snarled. That was probably the first time she'd ever been angry with me. "I can't tell you anything. I have orders from our alpha. what I can tell you…is there isn't a luna…yet." That word yet made me worried. "What do you mean yet?"
She didn't answer me. She just followed Jonah farther into the crowd. Then the crowd parted when Simon came into the middle of the circle. He was standing by the tree in dark loose jeans and no shirt. I stood waiting for the alpha to walk behind him but no one ever entered the circle. A few of them gestured me to join him in the circle so reluctantly I did. But I was still confused.
"Tonight my brothers sisters' daughters and sons, we welcome one of our own lost to us long ago. The outside world has not prepared her as a wolf so tonight it it up to us to show her who she is." The whole crowd was screaming in joy. I sat there sweating to death. Wasn't the alpha supposed to say this stuff? Something was fishy here.
Simon stepped closer to me and put his hand on my shoulder. "Are you ready? Once we start, there's no turning back." That thought alone made me swallow hard. How could be ready for this? "No, I barely understand half of what's going on, I still haven't met the alpha, and I found out there's no luna. This is crazy Simon. I feel like I'm being lied to. By everyone." He gave me a sympathetic look after that. I could tell whatever he was hiding was making him feel guilty. "Just trust me a little longer, okay? I promise to tell you everything soon."
I started to argue but then every pack member started to chant. The moon grew brighter in an instant. The language in which they were chanting wasn't English. Then the pain started. The first jolt of pain was in my spine. It felt like it was cracking in half. It hurt so bad that it took my ability to walk.
"it's okay Meghan. I know this hurts. Just breathe and let me take over." That should have been reassuring but the wolf wasn't in pain. It was just me. I tried to stand but my legs wouldn't move. "uhhhh it hurts." I felt a hand on my shoulder. Simon's scent filled my nose, and it helped a tiny bit.
Another jolt took over and I collapsed fully onto my knees and elbows. "Just breathe and focus on my scent." I wanted to scream. I wanted to yell. But the pain was too unbearable. There was a glow that formed around me. And I watched my hands grow fur. "Where is the alpha? He was supposed to be here to help me?" I cried out as loud as I can. I started to feel like I was burning from the inside out.
"He is helping Meghan. Just let him." Whatever liv had said I could barely hear, I felt like everything went silent. And then it was completed. I looked around and I could see so much farther than before. I could hear the faintest sound no matter how far it was. And all I wanted to do…was run.
When I looked down I could see my wolfs color. A dark black with silver threads. I felt powerful and strong. I shook out my fur to get a feel for the air around me. I could smell everyone in this circle. The second I smelled Simon's scent I was fascinated by it. It smelled like sandalwood and the leftover smoke from a fire. My nose went straight to him and started to sniff him everywhere. I couldn't help it. All my senses were gone when I smelled that scent. Simon went to one knee in front of me with a bright smile and wide eyes. He met his forehead with mine and took over my scent with the same amount of control which was none.
"you're a beautiful wolf Meghan. Absolutely beautiful." He started to nuzzle my neck as he breathed me in. The crowd of pack members started to shout in celebration. So, I took my first chance to howl. It was loud and something I never thought I would ever do.
But even with everything happening right now, there was still one question in my mind. Who was the alpha and why wasn't he here? Or were they still lying to me?
