"Tell me the facts and I'll learn. Tell me the truth and I'll believe. But tell me a story and it will live in heart forever"
— Old proverb—
"It is lovely to hear another voice this morning."
Arlene felt her captor's hands leave her shoulder, his other fist uncurling as they fell to his side.
He was still staring down at her.
"Though It's Kofi, not Coffee."
Kofi shook his head.
"I guess it must be hard to pronounce when conversing in English."
Though his eyes were on her, that last part seemed almost as though he were talking to himself.
"I apologise then. Kofi."
Arlene pronounced his name slowly, feeling the words roll out of her tongue carefully.
"That is better. Thank you, Arlene."
He walked over to the side, leaning on the wall beside her.
"How are you doing today?"
Arlene still studied his face, her eyes watching him before she opened her mouth to speak:
"Why? I feel terrible."
She snorted.
"Thanks for asking."
