Chapter 3 - Purple Flame

" Sheila!, you're here" a young maiden who seemed to be in her teen's or early 20's said as she dropped her tray on one of the tables, and rushed to give Sheila a hug.

She tripped and almost fell.

"Penelope!" Sheila said in a raised tone as she moved to catch her clumsy friend.

she managed to catch her and bring her to her feet, " Be more careful next time" Sheila said in a worried tone "I don't want you getting hurt because of me".

"Thank you...", Penelope said in a hushed tone, sounding very meek and shy.

Penelope was a fairly tall, young maiden, she had a very delicate face and kind eyes that seemed to shine with a child like innocence, wavy blonde hair that fell to her shoulder and a very nice body full of curves that added a bit of seductive charm to her countenance.

Penelope was waitress at the midnight inn/pub just like Sheila but she was a bit of a klutz. All in all, this didn't shy away from the fact that her vulnerable and amicable nature made her easy to befriend and talk to.

Even Sheila couldn't resist her charms.

After a bit of small talk Sheila and Penelope got back to work.

''Did you hear what happened last night...", a group of three men seemed to be discussing a matter of importance, this caught Sheila attention so she moved a bit closer so that she was within earshot of their conversation.

the second man continued;

"I think I heard about that, is it about the crazy vampire on the loose?''

"Yeah, the city guards were crawling around our part of the city yesterday, none of you noticed 'cuz you dumbasses were asleep", the first man said, his voice full of contempt.

"Of course we were asleep, we don't have a crazy bitch of a wife like you," the third man jeered at the first man before continuing; "tell me when was the last time you slept in you own home".

The first man who seemed to be having problems with his wife remained silent with an indignant look on his face.

"Enough of that," the second man interjected, "Apparently the crazy vampire killed twenty people and two of the vampire guards last night___", the second man paused to take a sip of his mushroom ale.

A look of shock spread across the face of the other two men.

"The vampire drained all the twenty people into shriveled corpses, not a single drop of blood was left" the second man continued with a gloomy look on his face.

The three of them fell into silence after that, the atmosphere had become too eerie for them, another twenty had fallen to the vampires cruel ways.

Sheila walked away and continued her duties in silence, patiently waiting for any snippets of information she might discover as she moved around the inn.

...

Jake had been walking through the strange corridor for about four hours with no sign of it ending of diverting into another path. Strangely he wasn't getting tired or hungry even after so much walking.

He was sure that he had already walked out from under the city; if it was a normal corridor.

Another hour passed by with no sight of the end of the corridor in sight.

"This is getting scary..." jake muttered to himself, the corridor was completely silent....

No sound other than the sound of his own footstep could be heard, he was starting to hear voices with no apparent source.

"Nobody is here other than me" jake reassured himself, the disembodied whispers were starting to get to him. It was beginning to push him down a spiral of insanity.

He tried to stop himself from thinking depressing thoughts, they forced their way into his mind in the end.

"If I died here mum probably wont be able to find me," a random sinister thought penetrated his mind.

"Even if she stumbled down here, she would probably end up dying here too"

"NO!," Jake screamed out loud, "Get out of my head!", he punched the walls of the corridor in anger.

As soon as his fist connected with the wall something unprecedented happened.

The wall crumbled into a pile of rubble under then force of Jake's punch!

Jake's eyes went wide with shock, he had destroyed a stone wall with a single punch.

"Did I just do that" jake questioned himself, this had never happened to him before, No regular human should be able to perform such feats.

"This wall was probably already weakened after who knows how many years of being here" jake tried to convince himself of a lie.

If the walls were that weak then it would have crumbled under its own weight.

Jake looked down at his hand in disbelief.

Nothing was making sense anymore.

He peered into the darkness beyond the hole in the wall he had created, he saw a flicker of a purple light.

He took a step back and then another step.

A deep primal sense of fear emerged in his heart as he laid eyes upon the strange light, a paralyzing sense of dread washed over him.

He tried to run.

He tried to move away, his legs weren't listening to his commands anymore.

The purple light seemed to be getting larger in his vision.

It wasn't light but a rapidly approaching ball of flames!

It was coming straight towards him, as it got closer to him he felt a different part of him awaken.

It brought him a strange sense of longing for the flames that were speeding towards him.

The flames hit Jake with full force and they just disappeared into his body.

Nothing.

Cold sweat drenched Jake's back, he felt a deep sense of relief, he thought he was going to die, he had survive and he was glad.

He had no idea of telling that this was the calm before the storm.

The flames suddenly burst out of his body like water from a broken dam, they consumed his entire frame.

"ARHHHHH!", Jake let out a horrifying scream of pain, meanwhile the flames continued to burn with increased intensity.
