With a loud "bang," the wall next to the interrogation room window was blown open, leaving a huge gap.
"Damn it, Marvin!"
Seeing the man swinging down from the roof on a rope, Frank immediately cursed, "Didn't you die? You bastard!"
"Sorry, Frank. You never listened to my explanations. I'm 62, but I'm not ready to die yet."
Marvin tossed a shotgun to Frank, then placed the bag he was carrying on the interrogation table.
He pulled out a few unused remote-controlled directional explosives from the bag and threw two rope descenders to Frank.
Without hesitation, Marvin began installing the remote-controlled explosives on the wall near the metal door, even placing the last one under the interrogation table.
Seeing Frank attaching the descenders to the rope, the black-suited interrogator asked with a dark expression,
"Wait, there are only two descenders. What about me?"
Marvin gave him a disdainful look and said to Frank, "Should we just kill him?"
"No," Frank quickly shook his head. "He's proof that we didn't kill anyone here."
After setting up the explosives, Marvin ignored the black-suited man and walked to the gaping hole. "No time to waste. If the guys outside are smart,
they'll shoot from the windows of nearby rooms, and we're all dead. See you downstairs."
Grabbing the descender, Marvin jumped out of the hole and began descending.
Frank and the black-suited man, realizing Marvin was right, quickly embraced each other and grabbed the descender. Fortunately, the interrogation room was on the third floor, only about six meters above the ground.
As they were halfway down, Marvin, who had already landed, pressed the remote detonator.
"Boom, boom, boom!"
A series of explosions echoed from upstairs. The directional explosives destroyed the wall around the metal door,
burying two armed personnel who were trying to unlock it under the rubble and the collapsed door.
Those further away, though unharmed, were left with ringing ears from the deafening blasts.
Trembling, they looked at the two-meter-wide hole in the wall, relieved they weren't in the collapse zone.
While two went to check on their injured comrades, the others looked into the interrogation room.
Sure enough, the target had escaped. Then they noticed the rope hanging from the roof.
"Clear!"
Hearing his team's report, Jack Horton, the lead CIA agent, stormed into the interrogation room and stood by the hole in the wall.
He saw Marvin, hiding behind a corner about ten meters away, waving at them with a grin.
Then Marvin pointed to the remote detonator in his right hand.
"Oh my God!"
At a distance of ten meters, it wasn't hard for trained operatives to see the remote in Marvin's hand.
Jack Horton barely had time to shout, "Bomb!" before he grabbed the rope in front of him and jumped out of the interrogation room.
"Boom!"
A cloud of dust and debris burst from the hole.
This time, without the wall for protection, even though the explosives were meant for breaching walls, they were still explosives.
Apart from Jack Horton, who had jumped out using the rope, the others were either dead or severely injured.
The sheer noise alone was enough to rupture eardrums.
But Jack Horton wasn't much better off.
Grabbing the rope with bare hands was practically self-mutilation.
Horton knew this, but at that moment, all he wanted was to get as far away from the hole as possible to avoid the blast.
By the time he had descended a meter or two, trying to hold onto the rope became nearly impossible.
Driven by survival instinct, even though his brain screamed to hold on,
the excruciating pain in his hands forced them to let go.
Fortunately, the interrogation room was only on the third floor, about six meters high, plus his own height.
The impact of the fall was still significant, but since he let go only about two meters above the ground,
he managed to bend his knees, land on his feet, and roll forward, crashing into the building's outer wall.
Lying on the ground, feeling like his body had been shattered, he was at least alive.
After a moment, Horton lifted his hands, seeing the skin torn off and his palms bloodied.
Anger, humiliation, and pain flooded his mind.
"Ahhh!" he roared in frustration, silently vowing to kill Frank and Marvin.
But remembering the files on Frank in the CIA archives, Horton wasn't confident about catching him now that he had escaped.
Gritting his teeth, he moved his limbs, relieved to find nothing broken, and sat up.
After a moment of thought, he fished out his phone with his fingers and made a call, ordering his team to find Frank's girlfriend, Sarah.
But if Horton was smart, Marvin, with decades of experience as a spy, wasn't foolish either.
They had both used family members to threaten targets before.
After letting the black-suited interrogator go, Marvin called Sarah.
Picking up Sarah, who was leaving Virginia, Marvin looked gloomily at Frank and Sarah hugging in the back seat.
"Frank, maybe we can send Sarah to London,"
Marvin hesitated before saying, "I know some experts there. Hiding her shouldn't be difficult."
"Experts? Who?"
Frank looked suspiciously at Marvin's back, then quickly asked, "You're not thinking of sending her to that nobleman you mentioned, are you?"
When Marvin just shrugged, Frank immediately let go of Sarah, sat up, grabbed the back of the seat, and moved to the front passenger seat.
He stared at Marvin in disbelief. "Buddy, are you serious? Becoming a butler?"
"Of course," Marvin shrugged. "I'm 62, Frank. Do I really want to hide in the southern swamps waiting to die?
If it weren't for that damn Dragon Blood Project being leaked online, in three months, I'd have finished my six-month butler training and retired peacefully in London."
Frank couldn't believe it and teased, "Are you crazy, or is your employer crazy? Who would want a lunatic like you as a butler?"
Marvin just shrugged, not answering.
"Thud, thud, thud."
A series of knocking sounds came from the trunk.
Sarah, sitting in the back, listened for a moment and stammered, "If I'm not mistaken, is that sound coming from the trunk?"
"Marvin?"
Frank also heard it, and based on his experience, he was certain there was a person in the trunk.
Under their stares, Marvin hesitated before saying, "Alright."
Turning on the signal light, he left the main road and entered a rural path, stopping in a small grove a few minutes later.
After turning off the engine, he opened the trunk and pointed a gun at a middle-aged man in civilian clothes.
"An MI6 colonel?" Frank, who had followed him out, took the man's ID and immediately cursed at Marvin, "Are you insane?"
"Sorry, Frank. I had to confirm if MI6 was the one who betrayed us."
"Why?" Frank looked at Marvin, who seemed uneasy. "Why would you suspect MI6 of betraying us?"
"Well, uh," Marvin hesitated for a long time before saying, "Sorry, Frank. There are some things I can't tell you.
Otherwise, we won't even be friends anymore. Let me take some secrets to the grave and tell you in hell."
"FKU, you bastard! You're the one going to hell. I'm definitely heading to heaven."
Frank laughed and cursed, then didn't press further. After all, he had too many secrets he couldn't share with Marvin either.
