Seeing that Frank didn't press further, Marvin breathed a sigh of relief. He wasn't sure if Frank would kill him outright if he found out that it was Marvin who had betrayed their location 31 years ago, along with Edward Bailey.
Looking at Sarah, who had also gotten out of the car, Marvin hesitated. "Frank, if it's convenient, maybe you could take Sarah for a walk. The interrogation might make her uncomfortable."
"No, no, I'm fine, I'm fine."
Hearing Marvin's attempt to send her away, Sarah quickly shook her head.
In her over thirty years of life, things had been too mundane and boring. But after the big adventure she had with Frank, Marvin, and Victoria a few months ago, Sarah had become intensely interested in the life of a spy.
Of course, her fascination stemmed partly from her innate sense of adventure, but mostly because Frank had protected her so well.
If she truly understood the brutality of the spy world, she probably wouldn't be so eager for adventure.
If this woman were William's, he would've dumped her immediately.
But for Frank, who was nearly 60, Sarah's intense curiosity about spies struck a chord with his loneliness and uncertainty in old age. Being with Sarah gave Frank a great sense of accomplishment.
Being able to share the most exciting chapter of his life with the woman he loved as he approached retirement felt incredible to Frank.
Taking Sarah, who didn't want to leave, for a walk, they returned half an hour later to find Marvin using the middle-aged officer's laptop to check something.
"Well?"
Marvin looked up at Frank and Sarah, patting the trunk. "According to this guy sleeping in the trunk,
his team was only tasked with monitoring me and, through me, finding you."
"That doesn't make sense," Frank said with a dark expression. "Since when is MI6 so charitable? If they found you, why didn't they just arrest you?"
"How should I know?" Marvin, feeling guilty, pointed at the laptop screen.
"This is the document that was leaked online. It details the Dragon Blood Project and mentions that we were the ones protecting Edward Bailey 31 years ago."
"Wait, what's this?"
Frank stared at a faint red mark at the bottom of the document.
Sarah and Marvin looked at it for a moment, and Sarah tentatively said, "A coffee cup stain?"
"No, coffee cup rings are much smaller," Marvin shook his head, then thought for a moment. "Could it be a wine bottle?"
"Wine?" Frank hesitated, then suddenly thought of something and exclaimed, "The Poison Frog?"
"FK, that information-selling Poison Frog?" Marvin thought for a moment and quickly agreed. "Right, it's said that the Poison Frog's only two loves are wine and women.
But catching that guy is a huge problem, let alone finding him."
Before Frank could answer, Sarah asked, "Wait, who's the Poison Frog? How can you be sure it's him just from a wine bottle stain?
And who would call themselves something like that?"
"The Poison Frog's nickname was given to him by others," Frank explained, holding Sarah's hand.
"No one knows his real name. The nickname came about because, over a decade ago, before the Soviet Union collapsed,
he spent three years alone in the South American rainforest collecting enough poison dart frog venom to kill thousands.
He then injected the venom into the independent water supply system of a secret Soviet archive.
Even diluted by the water, the amount was so large that it eventually killed everyone in the archive.
He then waltzed in and spent several days emptying the entire archive.
Since then, neither the Soviets nor the Americans dared to kill him directly, fearing the leaked documents.
There's a rumor in the underground world that he's a former spy, skilled in disguise and hiding.
But everyone has a weakness, and the best way to get close to him is through wine."
After Frank's explanation, Marvin looked at him helplessly. "But where do we find wine that would impress the Poison Frog?"
Frank thought for a moment and realized that the wine he had was fine for entertaining ordinary friends,
but it wouldn't be enough to attract someone as obsessed as the Poison Frog.
"Marvin, did the owners of Château Margaux and Château Latour change?"
"Well, uh,"
Hearing this question and recalling the recent news reports about
William Devonshire buying Château Margaux and Château Latour, Marvin was startled. "Sorry, you know,
I'm not really into wine, and it's hard to get TV signals in the swamp."
"I know," Sarah said excitedly. "Both châteaus were bought by William Devonshire.
And a few days ago, the newspapers reported that William Devonshire fell for a woman named Jessie, who grew up on the streets of New York.
Not only did he take her to watch a game with his mother, but he also put her in charge of the two châteaus.
God, it's so romantic, a duke meeting a Cinderella."
Rolling his eyes at his daydreaming girlfriend, Frank angrily took out his phone, dialing a number while disparaging,
"What's so romantic? If you knew William Devonshire has over a dozen girlfriends, you wouldn't admire him so much."
"Ring, ring, ring."
After dialing, Frank walked away. He didn't want Sarah to know he was acquainted with William. If Sarah developed feelings for William, who could he complain to?
Not only could he not compete, but he also didn't have William's influence. Besides, William was essentially his benefactor.
"Hi, William."
As soon as the call connected, Frank's expression and the way he instinctively hunched his back
surprised Sarah, who had been with him for six months.
In her impression, Frank was always stern and serious with everyone except her.
This fawning, almost ingratiating demeanor was something Sarah had never seen before.
Walking over to Marvin, she whispered, "Who is he calling?"
"The person you just mentioned," Marvin shrugged. He hadn't expected Frank to know William either.
While puzzled, he also felt relieved. It seemed that even if Frank found out Marvin worked for William's grandfather, he wouldn't turn hostile.
"Oh my God, William Devonshire?" Sarah covered her mouth in disbelief. "Are you sure, Marvin?"
Marvin said meaningfully, "After the call, if Frank can get his hands on a珍藏 wine from Château Margaux or Château Latour, that'll confirm it."
This made sense, so Sarah waited quietly.
A few minutes later, Frank straightened up, said goodbye, and walked over with a smile.
"The wine is settled. It's a 1787 vintage from Château Margaux, a珍藏级 wine that's only been rumored about and never publicly sold."
"Wait, wait," Marvin asked in surprise. "The same one that was spilled by a waiter, and the insurance company paid $225,000 for?"
"That's the one," Frank nodded proudly.
