"He actually dares to target the red mercury nuclear device."
"Calm down," Gareth glared at the overly dramatic Fix, then sighed,
"His courage is far greater than anyone imagines, and there's much more you don't know.
Believe it or not, even if you report William's interest in the nuclear device to the higher-ups, unless there's ironclad evidence, they won't confront William.
Besides, don't forget, we're all nobles."
Gareth stared seriously at Fix and said, "As long as he doesn't threaten England or our interests, isn't it better for us to have a stronger ally in the same camp?"
Fix frowned, his expression shifting as he struggled for a long time before finally nodding. "Don't worry, I know what to do.
I won't send additional people to guard Edward Bailey. However," Fix's eyes gleamed as he looked at Gareth, "are you really sure Duke Devonshire can handle this?
Don't forget, we've held Edward Bailey for 31 years. If he escapes and seeks revenge, that's one thing, but if the red mercury nuclear device is real, we'll all be doomed."
"I—"
Before Gareth could finish, a "ding" sounded as his phone rang. He took it out, smiled, and handed it to Fix.
With just one glance, Fix recognized the person in the photo as Edward Bailey, and the location was the underground psychiatric hospital that only he knew about.
Then, two "beeps" sounded, and a five-second countdown appeared on the phone.
When the time was up, the photo automatically deleted.
Sighing inwardly, Fix handed the phone back to Gareth and nodded. "Alright, it seems our Duke is indeed extraordinary.
Goodnight, Baron Gareth. It looks like I can sleep peacefully tonight."
"Yes, goodnight," Gareth smiled as he personally saw Fix off.
A day passed, and at 1 PM London time, William was having dinner with Jessie, who had come to deliver his meal, chatting and laughing.
Meanwhile, in Virginia, Frank and his girlfriend Sarah, dressed in black, arrived at a church before 8 AM.
After safely returning to the base with Sarah last night and making a few calls, Frank knew things had taken a serious turn.
Although the reporting officer had been changed to a Navy official, he still had to go to the Pentagon.
Fortunately, he wasn't restricted in his movements, so he called the police station to confirm that Marvin was indeed dead.
On one hand, he had to pay his respects to his old friend, and on the other, he wanted to check Marvin's belongings,
hoping to find some clues among them.
As for the document published online, within two hours of its release, all traces of it had vanished from the internet.
Driving to the church with Sarah, Frank sat in the car, silently staring at the church for a long time.
He still couldn't believe Marvin was really dead, especially since he knew Marvin had faked his death at least three times before.
Seeing her boyfriend's melancholy and hesitation, Sarah comforted him, "Alright, Frank, I know it's hard for you to accept,
but Marvin is lying in there, waiting for us to say goodbye."
Grabbing Sarah's hand as she tried to get out of the car, Frank quickly said, "Wait, I'll go in alone. It's safer for you to stay in the car."
"No, don't forget Marvin was my friend too."
Shaking off Frank's hand, Sarah got out of the car and walked into the church on her own.
Frank cursed under his breath, but based on his experience, he didn't sense any danger around.
Entering the church, he saw Marvin lying pale in the coffin.
Frank couldn't help but feel lost. He reached out to check Marvin's breathing.
"No breath? He's faking it pretty well."
Noticing a pin on the white flower pinned to Marvin's chest, Frank picked it up and,
to Sarah's shock, stabbed it into the back of Marvin's hand.
"Damn it," Frank muttered, growing nervous as the pin went all the way in.
If this was a fake death, even a trained person would show subtle reactions to such a stab.
Refusing to believe it, he pulled out the pin and stabbed twice more, but still, Marvin showed no movement.
"No way, is he really dead?"
At this thought, Frank's face turned pale, and he frowned as he felt for Marvin's pulse.
"No, no."
While Sarah could accept her boyfriend testing Marvin's hand with the pin, knowing he was also a spy,
seeing Frank now holding the pin to Marvin's neck, she immediately misunderstood.
Pulling Frank back, she awkwardly smiled at the others in the church.
After the farewell ceremony, as they left the church, they saw four men in black suits getting out of a car nearby.
With just one glance, Frank knew these men were government agents. Feeling relieved but also worried for Sarah's safety,
he held her hand and said, "Remember the safe house near the base?"
Sarah nodded.
The correct version is available at 69shu.com!
"Remember what I'm about to say," Frank handed her the car keys. "Go to the safe house immediately. There's a safe in the basement. The password is your birthday and mine.
Inside, there's $100,000 in cash, a new passport, and the keys to a house in Queens, New York.
If I don't contact you within a week, take the $1 million cash from the Queens house and hide in Switzerland. Understand?"
"Y-yes," Sarah, who had initially thought of joining her boyfriend on this adventure, surprisingly didn't argue when she saw Frank's serious face. "Be careful."
"Don't worry, I'm not that easy to kill."
After hugging Sarah and watching her leave, Frank walked over to the men in black suits.
He gestured to the side and said, "Tell that sniper to be careful. I don't want to be taken out just like that."
"Sorry, Mr. Moses. My orders specifically state that you're an extremely dangerous retired agent."
Seeing that Sarah had already driven away, Frank had no interest in talking further with the underlings. He held out his hands to be cuffed.
Blindfolded, he was taken to an unknown interrogation room.
Within five minutes of the interrogation, faint gunshots caught his attention. He raised a finger to silence the middle-aged man questioning him.
This interruption made the two interrogators hear the gunshots as well. The middle-aged man drew his gun and stood up, saying to the other,
"You watch him. I'll call for backup."
"Bang, bang, bang," as soon as the middle-aged man left, gunfire erupted outside the interrogation room.
"Bang, bang, bang,"
"Clang, clang, clang," the sound of bullets hitting the metal door echoed.
The man guarding the interrogation room felt for the keys and sighed in relief, excitedly telling Frank,
"Thank God the keys are with me. This door is two inches of solid steel. Without the keys, unless they use explosives to blow through the wall, no one can get in."
"I'm not worried," Frank stared at the man. "They're here for me, so I won't die. As for you, that's another story."
As the man hesitated, they heard someone outside talking about getting explosives.
Frank immediately said, "Listen, unlock my handcuffs, and I'll knock you out.
When they break in, I'll walk out. That way, you still have a 50% chance of surviving. It's your choice. Understand?"
"Y-yes."
Without hesitation, the man took out the keys and unlocked Frank's handcuffs.
"Boom," an explosion sounded, startling both Frank and the man.
However, they realized the explosion wasn't at the interrogation room door.
