CHAPTER START---

"Hehehehe," Master Makarov giggles as he uses his new spell, Telescopic Lens, to spy one of the barmaid's breasts jiggling as she walks about the Guildhall.

With the morning crowd gone Makarov was sitting on the bar, enjoying his beer and playing with the new spell.

He'd already made the spell many times more effective than Oberon, effortlessly surpassing the boy due to his expertise, shrinking it down to the size of a monocle, and hovering it in front of his right eye.

"I got it!" Oberon yells beside him, snapping him out of his perverted daze.

Makarov looks at Oberon, seeing the boy staring proudly at a monocle, much like his, if only a little bigger, floating in front of him.

"Took you long enough, I was starting to think lunch time would meet us here and you'd still be working on that," Makarov says before drinking his beer.

"Hey I made a new spell, I think I've done pretty good, it's not even eleven o'clock yet," Oberon frowns as he dispels the Telescopic Lense Spell, then with a wave of his hand he makes it appear again.

"Hm, well done," Makarov says, seeing that Oberon can now comfortably shrink the spell to a more subtle size. "So, ready to learn something new?"

"Always," Oberon says excitedly, and Makarov Requips a book into his hand. Similar to the others, this Grimoire was white and gold, but instead of the Fairy Tail Emblem at the front, there were runes.

"Uh, are you sure we should do this here?" Oberon asks, gesturing to the half-filled Guild Hall.

"Oh, I don't mind if more of my children learn this, assuming the rocks in their heads can understand it."

"Hey!" Wakaba yells as he walks over. "We aren't that dumb, I'm sure whatever this cool new Magic is I can learn it!"

"If he's learning it then I'm learning it too," Macao says. "Can't have him showing me up."

"Oh, what kind of Magic is it?" Enno asks as she walks over to them, still on the other side of the counter.

At this point almost a dozen other people were observing quietly, not wanting to pass up the chance to learn some advanced Magic from a Wizard Saint directly.

Oberon floats off his seat at the bar and into the air, withdrawing his journal from his cards, ready to take notes.

"This Magic is one of the advanced forms of Light Magic, it is able to supplement and empower Light Magic Spells, with a few notable exceptions, atleast to my knowledge," Makarov says as he waves his hand, a massive Magic Formula of runes appears in the air, made of glowing golden light. "It also adds a Holy Element component to the spells, so you'll hit demons even harder."

"Wow," Wakaba mutters as he takes a puff of his pipe. "That's a lot to remember, so if you learn this you can power up all your Light Magic?"

"Oh no, this is for the basic Light Barrier Spell," Makarov says. "The Radiance Formula is more like an alphabet of 100 characters. Each of these has a different effect and can be applied differently or together to change their effectiveness. But essentially the more you add to a spell the stronger the spell, quite simple really.

Fairy Tail's second Guild Master, Master Precht helped me get over the final hurdles when creating it. He was also able to create another version that focused on Fire and Shade Magic, called the Amaterasu Formula.

But to apply it you need to either chant the rune, create them with the Light Magic before casting the Spell, or use special hand gestures, then cast the Spell to apply them," Makarov says.

"So they take longer to cast huh," Macao rubs his chin. "Can you show us?"

"Of course," Makarov waves his hand and a square Light Barrier appears in front of him, the size of a dinner plate. "This is the standard Light Barrier, I've given this enough energy to stop… let's say, a punch from a regular person, so it's quite fragile."

Wakaba taps it with the back of his hand, easily shattering the Spell.

"Now this is the same Spell, with the same amount of Magic Energy, but enhanced with Radiance Formula 20, which means I've placed 20 Runes within it," Makarov focuses for a moment, then waves his hand, and Light Barrier of the same shape and size appears, glowing with a brighter golden light.

Wakaba casually taps it with roughly the same power, and this time it only has a small crack as a result.

"Wow," Macao says. "So do you normally reinforce all your Light Magic with that? I never even noticed?"

"Well I did create this Radiance Formula, so you won't notice when I use it, but when I first began it would look like this," Makarov dispels the Light Barrier, then reaches out with his hand.

A golden Magic Circle with the Fairy Tail Emblem appears in his palm, then twenty runes appear one after the next, then they merge to create the Light Barrier spell.

"Takes quite a bit longer when you're now learning, but so long as you can understand the Radiance Formula, master the Spells enough to manipulate them like this, and apply it in the midst of battle, this will be a great help to you."

"Ok, I see," Wakaba rubs his chin as he reads the Runes. "Ok yeah, I recognize some of these…but I think I'll need to study up a bit, or a lot, before I can make sense of all of that," he gestures to the many lines of runes in the air.

"Hey Master Makarov," Oberon calls their attention to him, floating above taking notes. "Can you show me the order you applied those runes to the Light Barrier?"

"It was like this," Makarov waves his hands and the symbols appear in the air.

Oberon delves back into his notes for a moment as Macao speaks up.

"Hey Master, can these work for my Purple Flare Magic?" Macao asks. "It would be nice to put some more punch into my flames, not that I've had a problem with power before," he glances at Enno for a moment, seeing that she was already back to cleaning the bar.

Makarov grunts, "Clearly you can't appreciate the genius it took to create this if you're asking that so casually. No, this is only applicable to Light Magic."

More and more Guild Members gather around to ask questions, and suddenly Makarov feels like he's transported back to when Macao and Wakaba, along with many others had just joined, when he had a gaggle of kids to teach Magic to.

After a few minutes of explaining the theory to them, Makarov sees most of them have lost hope of ever being able to understand this.

"Rest assured, this isn't something that's needed to reach the top of this world," he says. "In fact, most Mages use Magic based purely on their instinct and feelings, this sort of technique is for the very few who want to maximize their efficiency. Even among the Wizard Saints, most operate purple based on instinct and feeling in regards to mastering their Magics."

Many of the Guild Members smile after hearing that, and Makarov continues to encourage them.

"Magic is a power that comes from within. So long as you understand yourself and what you treasure most, so long as you always stand up to defend what, or who, you love, you will continue growing. That's what makes Fairy Tail so great, this Guild is all about protecting and helping each other, because, like all humans, we are all weak, even me.

No, especially me, that is why I need all of you at my side, my precious children," Makarov says.

Many of the Guild Members thank him, and still try to understand the Runes, to no avail, no matter how long they try, it is simply beyond them.

"And how is my most recent addition to the family faring?" Makarov asks, looking up at Oberon.

All eyes move up to Oberon, who is now floating cross-legged, upside down, yet his hair and clothes remain unbothered as he ponders his notes.

"This doesn't really make much sense to me, honestly," Oberon says, surprising everyone.

"So even Oberon has some human limits, huh," Wakaba says, getting a chuckle from some other Guildmembers.

"Is the problem the implementation of the Runes themselves?" Makarov asks.

"No, I already figured out how to cast it," Oberon says, silencing the crowd as he floats down to them. "But I can't understand the benefit of the method you used."

Makarov raises a brow at this, "Care to explain?" he dispels the images he had floating for everyone to see.

"Oh, sure," Oberon waves his hand and a complex Magic Equation fills the air, dozens of lines of math, Magic Script, and Runes. "So this is my Magic Equation for Light Barrier," Oberon says.

"Ah yes, quite impressive," Makarov says. "I never thought to make a Magic Equation for individual spells, that part I've always simply done by feel, the same with the implementation of the Radiance Formula Runes."

"I create a Magic Formula for all my Spells, at least for the Light Magic Spells, I plan to study them and apply what I learn to my other Magics…but that's years away," he sighs. "But anyway, these are the Runes you showed me."

Oberon waves his hands and the 20 Runes appear, separate from the Magic Formula.

"Yes, that's them," Makarov confirms. "What's the problem exactly?"

"This," Oberon uses both hands to control the Runes and Magic Formula, making gaps in the formula to accommodate the 20 Runes.

"So this is 'Radiance Formation 20: Light Barrier'," Oberon says. "The Runes are in the exact part of the process they need to be added at, for them to be most efficient."

"Are you sure?" Makarov asks.

In response, Oberon waves his hand and creates a small Light Barrier square, just as Makarov did earlier, with the same golden glow.

Makarov elongates his arm with his Giant Magic and taps it a few times.

"You incorporated the Holy Element quite well, but your balance still needs some work, but still, being able to cast this from purely studying the theory alone is…" Makarov tries to think of how to describe it, but settles for just looking over at Oberon. "Are you sure you're human?"

"What else would I be?" Oberon asks.

Makarov just shrugs, "Ok, so you can cast it, now the problem?"

"Right, I couldn't figure out why you did it like this," he gestures to the Radiance Formula 20: Light Barrier equation in the air. "Instead of like this."

Using both his hands he breaks the equation into two parts, each with half the new Runes in them, and sets them side by side with a large 'X' between them.

"Hmm, how interesting," Makarov rubs his chin and everyone else in the Guildhall is completely lost.

"Yeah, if you perform the spell like this, as two equations being cast simultaneously against each other, the effect will compound into one another and get a more potent result," Oberon says. "But…I figured since you weren't doing this it must not be applicable universally to Light Magic, so I had to ask before I developed some bad habits at the start of my training."

"Well, the reason Master Precht and I didn't use this method is actually quite simple," Makarov says. "We didn't think of it, mostly because, well, it's impossible."

"It is?" Oberon asks. "But, this is how I use Cosmic Barrier, and all my Cosmic Magic Spells."

Everyone just looks at him with great concern after hearing that.

"Yeah, I figured that was how you came to this conclusion," Makarov says. "And you are likely the only being to exist with such a capability, after all, you are the only one who can completely close your Magic Container to the outside world, that demands a level of control that has always been theorized, but never realized."

"I see," Oberon looks at the formula more closely, then focuses inwardly on his Magic Container for a moment. "Yeah, because you'd have to cast two spells internally before realizing it in the outside world. But since everyone else has a leak in their container they can't do that, at least not that we know of. But that's how my Cosmic naturally works so I'm used to it…ok, I get it now."

"Yeah, I think I get it too," Wakaba says. "So Oberon is a superhuman Wizard, and I've gotta work my butt off to get to S-Class before he starts competing in the trials."

Macao and most of the people gathered around laugh and agree with Wakaba.

"Well that's nothing we didn't already know," Makarov says.

"Well, all I heard is, Fairy Tail is heading to the top of the world!" Macao yells, getting a cheer from the crowd. "Just don't forget about us when you're a big shot, got that kid?!"

Oberon laughs as he dispels the Light Magic Formula, "How can I forget you, my name literally means King Of The Fairies…"
