Okay, Elizabeth, think about it. What can you help with now? Or better yet, another question: Where are you now? Where did you just land? I have no fucking idea!!! God, what vocabulary, Eli... what the Cap must be thinking. - "If I don't say it, I won't get through." - Eli whispered.
- "What didn't you say?" - Tony asked from above.
- "How can you hear me now and not when we were in the lab? It doesn't matter; the Cap said to go get your armor, go now."
- "Do you want me to leave you here?"
- "Yeah, nothing bad will happen to me. I'm much more trained than you."
- "Whatever you say." - He left quickly.
- "Okay, what do I do?" - I said to myself.
I can help Cap and Tony with the engine... But that would kind of undermine the trust they build between them in those moments, or something like that.
Helping the agents with the controls? It sounds boring, and they'd be so wrapped up in sorting everything out that they kind of wouldn't need it.
Natasha and Banner? And breaking up that couple moment, no way. Besides, it was a big fight.
Seeing Thor and Loki.
She heard Hulk's scream. It certainly wouldn't interrupt their "couple" moment? But she might as well go heal Romanoff while Thor pulled the other guy out of where he was.
Okay, first phase of the plan. Healing the wounded. This will take a lot of energy. I sighed and went to where the agent was supposed to be with the doctor. Just as I was about to reach the redhead, Thor pulled him out of the way. I stood next to the woman and began to heal her.
- "I'll tell you how I do it later; it's not the time," - I said, a yellow glow, almost like gold, coming from my hands.
- "Will you ever stop surprising us?" - She asked when I'd finished.
- "Who knows?" - I shrugged. - "I'm still studying that; I can't do much with more serious injuries."
- "That doesn't matter right now... thanks."
I smiled at her. - "I'm going somewhere else, although I'd love to see that fight." - I said, pointing in the direction where the Asgardian had gone.
- "Yeah, you better get out of here." - She looked at me. - "I don't want to know what they'll do to us if something happens to you."
- "What could happen to me? I'm the best." - I heard Fury talking over the communicator about Barton.
- "This is Agent Romanoff, I'm copying." - Natasha went to where Barton was supposed to be.
Okay... now, Barton and Natasha? Loki and Thor? Which was the best option? I was going to push the envelope until I remembered something that had plagued me for years.
- "Agent P." - I ran out to where the Gods were. - "Don't be late, don't be late."
Guess who was late? Elizabeth, late as always. I saw exactly how Loki impaled Agent Coulson with the scepter. Shit, I didn't have time to do anything. I knew what would happen next... but I hoped Coulson wouldn't suffer so much. The plan failed. Loki released Thor, and then the agent started talking to him.
- "You're going to lose."
- "Really?"
- "It's in your nature."
- "Your heroes scattered, your floating fortress will soon crash. What would be my disadvantage?"
- "You have no conviction."
- "I don't think..." - Coulson fired the gun.
- "So that's what it does," - He said as best he could.
- "Yes, that's its power... like the Men in Black's weapons." - I smiled at him. - "You did a great job, agent." - I got a little closer to where he was and tried to heal him, but clearly, I couldn't. It only closed a little. - "My study wasn't enough, hopefully I gave you an extra minute," - I said, trying not to cry.
- "It's a lot more than anyone could have done," - Phill told me. Suddenly, Fury appeared and came to where we were.
- "Sorry, boss." - The agent spoke first. - "The God escaped."
- "Focus, keep your eyes on me."
- "No, I'm leaving today, sir."
- "It's not an option."
- "Calm down, boss. This... this would never have worked if we hadn't given them something that..."
Coulson stopped talking. Fury just stared at him. With magic, I made Phill's cards appear and handed them to my father.
- "I guess you know what to do, Nick."
- "I know." - He replied.
- "I'll go away for a while, see if there are any injuries." - I was leaving and heard his voice.
- "Sorry, we couldn't do anything," - Fury said.
- "It wasn't any of your fault, don't worry."
After leaving all the wounded in stable condition, she went to where the rest of the team was. She listened to the director's talk and saw him throw the cards at Cap.
She saw the faces of those present. Desolation? Who knew? Fury continued speaking and named the Avengers Initiative, his true bet. Not the phase two that everyone else wanted to follow, not a weapon. It was simple: people willing to do anything for the world. With feelings, with flaws... but who, despite everything, could sacrifice themselves for others. That was the director's big bet. The one Eli had helped him create. Stark stood up and left; she followed him to the exit.
- "Where are you going?" - Hill asked.
- "I have to do something. I'll be back soon... or well, you'll see me soon."
She looked for where Banner had fallen; she was grateful she'd put a spell on everyone that told her where they were. It was like following a thread; she found it. He was transforming back into a human.
He heard the man saying, - "Well, you should go see a doctor" - which was funny for a moment like this. He left a motorcycle nearby for Bruce to ride.
Through a portal, she arrived at Loki's location, where the plan would begin. Stark Tower. Right now, they should be starting everything. Natasha would be talking to Clint, and Tony would be talking to Steve. They would join forces, and he would come to "finish" the God.
Could she blame Loki for everything? Yes, she could, but would she? No, because she knew perfectly well that he was being controlled. He had many, too many flaws. Like most people, he wasn't someone who always did the right thing. Who always did the right thing anyway? Everyone had made a mistake, at least once. And she knew that, when the time came, the God would do what was best, what was right. Even if that day hadn't come yet.
With some magic, she began to put the people of New York to sleep, taking them outside to a safer place. Soon, the portal would open, and the Chitauri would arrive. She should save as many civilians as she could.
She saw Tony arrive at his tower, and minutes later, she saw him fly away, and the armor went to find him. Did she miss him when she offered him a drink? Yes. She missed the whole conversation. Iron Man went up and shot the God. Great... she missed that too. The portal began to open.
Elizabeth cursed herself. Unfortunately, she couldn't get them all out. She had a good number of people left in the city by the time it all started. She sighed and watched the events unfold. Some "monsters" arrived, and she worked to get them out of the way of the civilians.
However, one seemed to have realized what she was doing, because she was attacked by a Chitauri. She couldn't react in time and received a blow, a very hard one. She flew and landed a few feet away.
- "Wow, what a blow! Chitauri would make excellent baseball players."
Was this the time to think about those things? No, clearly not. When she hit the ground, she thought of something, but it was very fleeting. But she couldn't get it out of her mind, and before they attacked her again, she left. She appeared a few feet from the New York Sanctuary.
- "Good afternoon, Elizabeth. How can I help you?" - Asked the Ancestral.
- "I don't exist, right?"
- "What?" - That's a strange question to ask out of nowhere, isn't it?
- "I don't think so. They'd probably be better off without me."
- "The world, the people. They need you; you save them. Most people only take the act of saving the world, the battle, the fight. But you, you come to help, you save the lives of innocents. Your priority is to help minimize the number of deaths, so that many don't suffer. So that they don't suffer what you suffered from a very young age, right?"
- "I.." - Is that what I was doing? Fewer lives lost? Is that what I was here for? Was I fulfilling what I said when I arrived? - "I don't know. Well, I don't understand what you're saying... but I guess I'll have to think about it." - I sighed. - "Thanks, I'll go. Will we see each other again soon?"
- "Sure, and you'll explain to me why you look so old... that's not your age, right?"
- "No." - I laughed a little. - "Goodbye."
- "Before you leave, I saw Strange had a protective spell." - Caught red-handed - "I understand you want to protect him, but... that spell must disappear so he can fulfill what he's destined to do, do you understand?"
- "Yes... I know, I'll remove it in a few years. For now, it's best if I stay with him; nothing should happen to him, right?"
- "Not until the time comes. Goodbye, little one," - She said. - "I think they need you there now." - She pointed to the tower.
- "It was nice seeing you again."
- "You too."
Who was closer to reality? If she were in his position, how would she behave? She didn't know, but clearly, she wouldn't claim this was written in the Bible. Although they had one point in their favor, it was the work of God. Someone with a serious problem, which had begun to grow with the way he'd been treated since childhood. Distant, like someone different, with "hate," for a background he had no idea about. That treatment, coupled with his "mischievous" personality since childhood, and learning his origins in the worst possible way, had turned him into what he was now. Someone who got carried away and ended up being "controlled" by the Mad Titan and his scepter.
Did she defend Loki? Yes, a little. Was he completely innocent? No, before he met Thanos's followers, he'd already made many mistakes. But was he really someone bad? She didn't know, but she doubted it... Would he change? Yes, he would. Would she try to help him? If they let her, it was very likely that she would. Was she crazy? Yes, but not like the Titan. It's something. Should she stop talking to herself and focus on the fight at hand? Yes, absolutely.
She helped the Avengers, or rather, she went to watch the two brothers fight. She did so from a distance until she saw the jet driven by Barton arriving. She tried to minimize the impact, but she was a little tired after sleeping and getting people out. Exhausted from that, she had to opt for a new strategy: fight.
- "Years of training with the agents, please don't let me down." - I said as I went out to fight. - "How will I fight without weapons? Hand to hand? I should have trained with Cap..." - I went straight for a Chitauri and started fighting. It was almost beating me, but I managed to defeat it. - "God." - I sighed. - "How do Natasha and Clint do it? I have to stop relying on magic." - I saw the weapon thrown by the Chitauri I had fought moments ago. - "This isn't cheating, right?... Magic was? It doesn't matter; the battle continues."
I watched as Loki stabbed his brother and jumped into a Chitauri ship. I continued shooting with what I had "stolen" from my former attacker. I reached the two agents.
- "Just like in Budapest a few years ago."
- "Our memory of Budapest is very different," - Answered the redhead.
- "What happened in Budapest?" - He asked curiously.
- "Yeah, sure. I've been asking about that for decades." - I sighed. - "Do you need help?"
- "I won't even ask how you got here... But if Fury sees you, he'll kill the whole team." - Natasha answered. - "Where did you get that?" - she pointed at the Chitauri weapon.
- "Uh... I stole it? From an enemy," - I said, trying to make light of it. - "It's an interesting weapon." - Two Chitauri were coming, and I pointed the weapon at them.
- "Okay, if you'll help us... We'll figure out what to say to your father later."
- "Yes, excellent." - I celebrated a little. - "Killing these things doesn't count as killing a 'living being,' does it? I just broke my rule of not killing any living being." - I grimaced in disgust.
- "We'll talk about it later... but trust me, it's better to kill them."
- "Well, whatever you say... this will be weighing on my subconscious for years." - I went to another location that wasn't being "guarded" by any member of the team.
When Elizabeth had left and disappeared from the agents' radar, they started talking.
- "Will she be okay?" - Natasha asked her friend.
- "I don't know... I once saw her cry because she accidentally crushed a snail."
- "Really?" -
- "Yeah... it wasn't that loud of a cry." - He sighed. - "But she gave "Turbo" a funeral."
The agents laughed a little and continued their fight. They had to win this battle... for the good of the world.
