Chapter 20 - Chapter Twenty - Loki

Elizabeth watched as the two men searched for the Tesseract. She helped them a little, but then decided to just watch them. She wanted to get closer to the scepter. In the months she was 'without anything important to do,' she had tried to make some kind of device that would draw energy—not all of it, of course—from the stones. She didn't know if it would work, but she felt it was important to try.

- "Gamma radiation readings are consistent with what Selvig reported from the Tesseract. It will take weeks to process." - Banner had begun to speak; she was simply eating an apple as she watched them.

- "If we switch to the shared network, bypassing the mainframe, the speed increases to... 600 teraflops."

- "I just packed my toothbrush."

- "One day, you should visit Stark Tower. There are ten floors dedicated to research. You'll feel like a kid in a candy store."

- "I want to go to a candy store. I'm hungry." - Elizabeth whispered. Banner looked at her with amusement. He was still holding the apple. - "Thanks, but my last time in New York, I caused a ruckus... in Harlem."

- "Well, I promise you a stress-free environment, no tension, no surprises."

- "Yeah, right." - I saw Tony shove something into Bruce, and he groaned.

– "Hey!" - The captain, who was just arriving, shouted.

- "Nothing?" - Tony asked his partner.

- "Wait a second." - He looked back at Banner. - "You know how to control it, right? What's your secret? Jazz music, playing the bongos, and herbal medicine."

- "Is this all a joke to you?"

- "If it makes me laugh."

- "Risking the safety of the ship's personnel isn't funny." – Steve looked at the doctor – "No offense, doc."

- "Oh, don't worry, I wouldn't have come up if I couldn't tolerate pointy things." – I laughed at that.

- "You're too cautious."

I remembered the months I spent helping Banner with the other guy. I annoyed him in many ways, and the "used to sharp things" thing had a lot to do with me. In the end, the doc gained a great deal of self-control.

- "You have to relax." - Stark continued.

- "And you focus on the problem, Mr. Stark." - 'I think you're much older, sir.'

- "What don't I do?" - Replied. - "Why did Fury bring us together? Why now? Why not before? What isn't he telling us?" - I looked at the men carefully. - "I don't have the equation, I don't have the variables."

- "Do you think he's hiding information from us?" - It's obvious, isn't it?

- "He's a spy. Captain, he's a spy. His secrets have secrets. " - 'Like the fact that he adopted me, a pretty well-kept secret.' - "It bothers him too, right?"

- "Ahh." - Bruce looked at me. - "I just want to finish my homework here and..."

- "Doctor?" – Bruce took off his glasses

- "A warm light for humanity, Loki offended Fury by talking about the cube."

- "Yes, I heard it."

- "I think the comment was more for you." – Tony handed a bag to the doc – "assuming Barton didn't tell Loki about the Tower... it was all over the media."

- "Stark Tower? That hideous thing?" - Stark looked at Cap, "The building in New York?"

- "It's powered by an ARK reactor, a self-sustaining energy source. It'll power itself for, what, a year?"

- "It's just the prototype. We're the only ones working with clean energy. That's what they're trying to achieve."

- "So, why didn't SHIELD involve you in the Tesseract project? I don't understand why they're in the energy industry." - Good question, Bruce.

- "I'll take a look at that." - Tony moved around the room. - "As soon as my decoder finishes penetrating SHIELD's secret files."

- "Wait, you said...?"

- "Jarvis started running it when I entered the bridge. In a few hours, we'll have all the dirty secrets SHIELD has tried to hide."

He moved the package to Steve. - "Blueberry?"

- "And you're still wondering why they don't want you anywhere near here."

- "An intelligence organization that fears intelligence." - Historically...not great.

- "Do they know I'm still here? Am I invisible?" - I snorted.

After all, I already knew everything that would follow in that conversation. They'd talk about whether that was the guy Howard always talked about, that Loki had the advantage over them, and about "the armor." Meanwhile, Steve would be looking for SHIELD secrets or weapons, so to speak. She went to see how the others were doing, heard Thor talking to Coulson, but didn't approach. She was wondering if they would ignore her too; she didn't like that feeling. So she just watched them and thought about what the form of a "Bilge Snipe" would be, repulsive and devastating everything in their path. What form would it be?

She saw her father approaching the God after a few minutes. - "And why does it seem like he's the only person here, because he wants to be?" - Wrong, Fury. You can't confuse or compare a God with a mere person, a mere mortal. Then the light bulb went off, and I knew whom to harass. I'd just wait for Agent Romanoff to come out, and she'd go in. Suicidal idea? Would she take a step back? No, of course not.

While she waited for Natasha to come out, she thought about how much time she had. The "team" would figure out "everything" the organization was hiding, Fury would go talk to the two scientists, Cap would arrive with what he'd found, and Natasha would take Thor. How long would that take? 15 minutes? 30? Who knows. She saw Natasha saying thank you to Loki, and as soon as she left, she came in.

- "As for you not seeing that one coming, God of Lies." - I looked at him, amused. - "Hi, it's been a while. How's the cage treating you? Do you have to go to the bathroom?"

- "What? Who are you?" - He said.

- "I'll tell you... maybe." - I moved a little closer to the glass. - "If you yell at me, you won't have a friend to talk to. And I'm the best, believe me." - He looked at me doubtfully, and I sat down on the floor. He didn't repeat my action. - "I'm sure you like being looked up to, like a superior being, right?"

- "It's what I am." - He paused for a moment. - "What's a little girl doing here? Did they send you to get information from me? How stupid to believe someone like you could achieve anything."

- "No, I didn't come here for you to spill your guts. I just came to talk to someone who has a lot in common with me."

- "What could an insect like you have in common with someone like me?"

- "Age... clearly." – I looked at him – "Aren't you going to sit down? Well, I guess it doesn't matter. I doubt someone of your stature would sit on the floor. Not like this simple Midgardian," – I said, pointing at myself. – "Well, I'll tell you what we have in common. First, we're both adopted," – I made a two with my fingers. – "Second, our parents are "father of the year"." – I made a three. – "Third, our parents are missing an eye, with great power comes... losing an eye." – I said and started laughing.

The God seemed to be giving in and sat down. - "I didn't sit down to talk, I'm just tired."

- "Fine, my prince, whatever you say." - I winked at him. - "Four, we both have black hair and... I think that's as far as I go. We don't have much else in common, well, yes. But I won't tell you."

- "So what are you doing here?"

- "I came to talk. No one pays attention to me over there. Everything's going perfectly according to your plan. They're hesitating and will start fighting among themselves. I'm betting on about 10 minutes. And Barton will come to "rescue" you. Although it's obvious you can leave, he's coming for the spear or the scepter... whatever you want to call it, and other things."

- "You're smart. Why not tell the others?" - He wondered.

- "You see, like I said... they're pretending I don't exist. I'm not someone important for now. They'll complain later."

Loki looked at the girl in front of him in a very peculiar way. She didn't seem to be lying, and she acted as if she knew everything. Why hadn't he seen her before? How hadn't he noticed her?

- "I like your eyes, they're very pretty... Although Hiddleston's were never far behind."

- "Who is Hiddleston?"

- "Nobody important... Okay, listen, Loki. I disrupted the systems so no one would know what I'm going to say for a minute, from now on." - I looked him straight in the eyes. - "I'll talk and you'll listen to everything. No interruptions." - I pointed. - "Okay, first... I know perfectly well that you don't want to do this." - He seemed like he was going to speak, but I silenced him. - "I know that since you fell off the bridge, you reached Thanos' sanctuary. I know they gave you the "scepter" so you could carry out your revenge and bring the Tesseract to them. I know they're threatening you, and I know perfectly well that you're scared. Even if you don't want to admit it. And I also know that you're not the monster they scare children with. If I'm honest, the first nightmare I had was with Butterflies, and believe me, you're much prettier than those flying insects. I know that no matter what I say, you won't change your mind, because the scepter has you as brainwashed as the agents you hired. And finally, I know your mother loves you and is waiting for your return, you shouldn't let her down... not her."

- "How do you know about my mother?"

- "How could you not know you were adopted? Even the Norse mythology books on Earth clearly state that you are not the son of Odin." - I looked at the time. - "The minutes up, sorry, you won't be able to talk," - I said. - "Do you have a horse as a son?" - I asked so as not to make it obvious what I had been saying.

- "What?"

- "That, the eight-legged horse. Is that your son?"

- "I don't know what you're talking about, Midgardian." - He looked at me defiantly and stood up. - "Get out of here before I kill you."

- "Oh yeah, verbal threat, I'm trembling, God of Lies." - I said, standing up. - "And why don't you do it? I know perfectly well that you can get out of there. This isn't an Asgard cell. It doesn't have spells to prohibit a witch from leaving. If you really can't, you should tell your mother to teach you again from the basics." - I looked at him challengingly, but he did nothing. - "Well, I'll go see if "my team" has started trying to kill each other. I'm missing a lot of lines being here with you. You should feel honored by my presence. Goodbye, it was a pleasure talking to you. Fool Thor again with your "replicas" or whatever they're called, but as for Barton... you'll leave him here." - I wrote it down. - "It's a warning."

I left the cell. Maybe I'd get to see something. Even a little, right? Please, God who sees everything... Is that Heimdall? Well, never mind. Let me get there before everything starts.

I arrived where everyone was, but Bruce had already left the scepter to check the location. Shit, I was late.

- "Careful." - I managed to shout before everyone flew away, much to my pity, including me. - "That hurt a lot, and I knew it was coming," - I said, rubbing my head.
