[Third POV]
During the tour around the ship the group finally noticed the absence of one of their own. After Selby exclaimed how awfully quiet Fiona was everyone started panicking.
"Where could she have been?" Clover asked, "I will go check on her room."
"But she was on the deck the last time we saw her," Lucas pointed out, Heath who was not worried when her absence was first mentioned was now panicking.
"You think she went overboard?" he asked bewildered.
"Oh, come on she could not have fallen overboard, she is probably playing hide and seek for attention," Carl says making Heath snort at him, he had flinched as his boss and idol didn't like his comment before sheepishly apologizing.
"I will go check the CCTV," Heath says determined, the rest of the group had stopped the tour to look around ship to look for their now missing friend.
Heath had raced to the camera room to get good footage of Fiona's whereabouts. But the only time she was last seen was when she went on the deck, the deck on which she was now nowhere to be seen.
"Someone fell overboard, we need a ship to go find her," Heath exclaimed, well he wasn't sure if she even went overboard but it was better to be safe than sorry.
He felt a pang in his heart, Fiona, he had hoped his conclusion was wrong, but his wishes couldn't be granted as his other friends returned telling him she was not in her room either.
"I will go and look for her, continue to search the ship and call if you find her," Heath says frantic.
"What? Boss wouldn't it better to just let the other lifeguards go, it is not safe," Carl says earning yet another confusing snort from his boss.
Carl had never felt so confused in his life, he was sure Heath and Fiona were not close enough for Heath to react like this when she goes missing, and the more Heath panics the more he believes what Nurse Esther told him a few hours ago.
"The lifeguards have the emergency ships ready, and we will go back to search for her," Heath says determined.
"But boss, don't you think this is a bit much? You and Fiona are not that close for you to risk your life, let me go search," Carl interjected, he felt sick in his stomach, there was something happening between his ex and his idol, and he hated it.
"No, it is my yacht I will take responsibility and look for her myself," Heath says almost sounding annoyed, "it is not like you know Miss Lennon either. At least I know her a little bit."
"Fiona and I are…..." Carl tried to say but Heath couldn't let him finish his sentence.
"Enough! The more we stand here and do nothing the more danger she is in; I am going out and you stay here I will let you know when I find her."
"If?" Esther finally broke her silence with some chilling assumption, "it could be a shark infested area, what if she is dead."
"Shut up, Fiona is a strong woman," Selby yells, "Heath go already before something bad happen."
"I will go with you," Clover says distraught, Fiona was her rock, the person who is always there for her breaking the walls standing in front of her, she had to be the one to save her.
"Are you insane, Fiona will kill us if we endanger you, let Mr. Duncan go instead, if she is out there, they will find her," Selby says.
They had taken time to calm Clover up as it was not good for her already risky pregnancy while Heath gets the ships and divers ready.
After they were done with getting the emergency ships ready, other lifeguards along with Heath started with the search for Fiona, even deploying divers.
He felt a sense of desperation he had never felt before, having divers search while the ships scout the parameters, and each passing moment becomes hopeless.
"Sir, we have been searching for hours, I don't think she is out here," one of the divers says.
He felt the cold waves splash and he hated the salty water he tasted, Fiona was not that significant woman to him, she was just another witty girl who is always ready for a fight, he had tried to convince himself that she was not significant since that brutal rejection, he had learned from a young age to move on from any rejection, but he couldn't seem to move past her.
"We keep looking, if she fell overboard, she is probably out here fighting the waves," he said determined.
"Sir, this is hopeless, there might be sharks, if she fell, she might be dead…..."
"Shut up, we will look for her and we will find her" his last word sounded out all the desperation in his voice.
Was this love, the love that killed his father so stupidly? He hated how it felt, he hated the nothingness he feels by just knowing she is in danger, he hates love.
'After finding her I am going to stay away from her, I am losing my mind,' he told himself.
He had wished to love, but not like this, maybe the subtle type of love, the cat and dog type of love where they fight every time but love always, but he doesn't want to love like his father.
It took hours and it was getting a little bit late, the ship didn't call or inform them of her being safe and she was nowhere to be seen in the water.
"Dammit Fiona, show up," he yells.
"Sir, this will be the last place we search, we have been searching for hours," one of the lifeguards says, "maybe a shark…."
"I get it, get me a suit," Heath says deflated, "I will look for her myself."
"It is dangerous for you to..."
"There is a woman out there scared for her life fighting the waves and god knows what to survive and you are worried about me. Get me a diving suit now," he angrily yells.
Heath Duncan a volatile man, fall in love once and has already lost the woman he is falling for, maybe this was a sign that he would never love ever again. This might be karma for how his mother treated his father.
As he was busy feeling sorry for himself while searching his feet hit a cold surface. A shark maybe.
"Ugh... shark? Please be gentle when you tear me apart" he could feel the tears in his after hearing that voice, it was deflated, but he could point out Fiona's voice from nowhere, well he had figured it now.
"Fiona," he yells holding the surface as he discovered to be Fiona, "finally."
"Heath? Were you also pushed down?" she stutters as she holds unto him, "well, I can't feel my legs anymore."
"You will be safe now." He whispers to her as he holds her close.
"You do not understand, we will not catch up to the ship," her voice cracks before she starts crying, "this is how I die; I am freezing, I can no longer move my arms now."
"Fiona we will be safe just…." He tried to be reassuring but her whole body had been shivering and because he was happy to find her, he forgot to alert the rescue team.
"Stop speaking nonsense, I came here to rescue you," he whispers before shooting the SOS gun he had with him.
"That is good we will be rescued, but I think it is too late for me, this is the titanic," Fiona mutters, "only I am jack."
He felt like both crying and laughing, but the sight of the rescue boats made him burst out laughing, "this will make a good story for our kids don't you think?" he joked.
"Not funny at all, why would we tell our kids of something so traumatic?"
"Ah, so you do wish to marry me one day?" he teased, he wanted to keep her from closing her eyes as he could feel her heartbeat became faint.
"What if I just want to make you a baby daddy for the sake of child support," she teased back.
"Heath," she faintly calls. "Fiona?"
"Thank you for looking for me, I know you must have worked very hard to find me, I tried my best to swim after the ship, but the waves were too strong," she says, "but I cannot fight anymore, my eyes are heavy, I think if I close them, they will not open again."
"Then don't close them," he says desperately.
"I can't, I can't fight it anymore, please make sure Clover is well taken care off, I would have loved to be a broke aunty to her children," she joked "please take care of her for me, take care of yourself too."
"Fiona if this is a joke…." He didn't finish his words as he felt her warm tears hit his chest, and her eyes were closed as he looked at her. Maybe it was some sort of twisted fate, the darn titanic reference, maybe it's the one that jinxed everything.
