Adrienne turned to her system and gave it a polite smile. "Let's have a happy cooperation. May I ask what we are supposed to do now?" She asked. The system which was feeling dazed quickly got it back together. It happily started talking, "Host! I'll now fully explain our duties. So first of all, every host is given a code name. This is to ensure both their safety and privacy as some hosts may have or make enemies during their missions. As you've presumably heard, your code name is 'White Rabbit'. This is the name that'll be displayed for the other systems and hosts to see, and on the system leaderboard. Though since we are complete novices you don't need to worry about that right now. This white space that we are in is our system space. This is where we'll be between worlds. After you start earning points, you can also customize this room to your taste. Now, about points. You can earn points from completing missions, side tasks, and hidden missions. You can also trade points with other systems or hosts. Points are the universal currency for the system. You can use it to exchange for skills and props. These points are what you need to collect to buy your 'second life'. Mission worlds are ranked from F to SSS grade. F being the lowest difficulty and SSS being highest difficulty. Now listen very carefully to my next point. In a mission world, if you fail your mission then you'll be punished. This is usually through a major deduction of points, but this can be fatal for newbies like us. If you don't have enough points, then failure in the mission world means death in real life and your soul will be terminated. Luckily, for newbies we automatically get three life passes. These passes can be used to avoid termination three times. This is equivalent to three extra lives. Newbies will also receive a newbie package. The contents of which differ per package. Do you have any questions so far?"
Adrienne thought for a moment. "Is there any way to change your code name?" She asked
"… No there isn't. Is that really all the questions you you have?" System 47398 hesitantly replied. "If you fail too many missions than you might die you know…"
"If I die, then I die. It doesn't matter that much to me." Adrienne countered.
System 47398 "…" It forgot, its host was suicidal. "OK. Last critical piece of information. You are basically living your life in another person's body. To complete your mission, you must not go OOC (Out of Character). Fulfilling their last wishes are the side tasks that will give you bonus points. They have chosen to sell part of their souls to us, so you don't need to worry about forcefully inhabiting someone's body. So complete the mission, don't go OOC, and earn some points. It's as easy as that! Are you now ready to start the mission?"
"May I open my newbie package first?" Adrienne requested.
"Yes, of course." A small white box magically appeared in front of Adrienne. She reached out and touched it. Immediately a blinding white light emerged from the box. After the light receded, three white cards floated over the open box.
[ Tool Card: Invisibility Potion]
[Number of uses: 1
Those who drink this potion will gain invisibility for a maximum of two hours. Can be cancelled anytime during use. After one use, this card will disappear. Can be used in any F grade mission worlds.]
[Skill Card: Little Luck Boost (Upgradable)]
[Number of uses: Unlimited
Passive Skill: Boosts your luck slightly.]
[Skill Card: Mint Confectioner]
[Number of uses: Unlimited
What should you do if you have bad breath? What should you do if you want to eat something sweet? What should you do if you if you have low blood sugar? The answer is obviously eat mints! With this skill you will never lack mints to eat! You can share the mints with your friends… Wait, you don't have any! 🤣
Can only be used in modern worlds.]
Adrienne looked carefully at the cards, ignoring the mocking description of the last. 'Better than nothing' she thought. On the other hand System 47398 was shocked. 'I thought that there was an extremely low probability of drawing skills from the newbie package. She even drew an upgradable skill card?!' Unbeknownst to Adrienne, the newbie package was a complete joke. The package only allowed a maximum of three cards to be drawn and even then there was less than 5% chance of drawing all three. The probability of drawing skill cards was fixed at just under 0.2%. Yet, she defied all odds and drew the max number of cards, including two skill cards that were even permanent use! "Shall we start the mission?" Adrienne unconcernedly asked. The system still dumbstruck, opened its mouth...
To have a robotic voice interrupting what it was going to say.
