An empty white room that was seemingly endless and an out of place talking light ball. That was the first thing Adrienne saw when she opened her eyes. 'Did I finally go crazy?' She thought to herself. 'Wait, I already died so that's probably impossible… So where am I?' She only panicked for a split second before regaining her composure. She turned to the floating light ball which seemed to be mumbling to itself and did what any sane person would do… She kicked it away from her like a soccer player. After all if there is an unknown, possibly life-threatening existence right beside you, isn't it better to make the first move? She made a fighting stance and was about to attack again when she heard a voice echoing in her head, "AAAAAAAHHHH!!! Why are you attacking me? D-don't move, l-l-let me explain." Adrienne paused her movements. Narrowing her eyes, she let out a cold but pleasant sounding voice, "5 seconds. I'll give you 5 seconds to tell me everything. 5-" The voice stammered a bit "B-but that's n-not enough time for me to ex-" "4-"
"!!! Wait a second, I-" "3-" "S-stay away! D-don't come any closer-" "2-" Adrienne stepped closer and closer to the light ball. Her cold voice now starting to sound threatening, "1-" "OK! So-I-regret-to-inform-you-that-you-have-died. The-reason-being-shot-to-death-during-an-unexpected-terrorist-attack. However-you-have-luckily-been-chosen-by-the-system-god-to-perform-tasks-and-complete-missions-for-us. As-long-as-you-complete-enough-missions-and-collect-enough-points-then-you-may-receive-many-different-corresponding-rewards-such-as-being-reborn, living-a-perfect-life-in-the-system-world, or-even-becoming-a god-and-owning-your-own-world! Now-host, are-you-ready-to-permanently-bind-with-me, System 47398, and-start-completing-missions-together!" The voice blurted out in just a single breath. Adrienne frowned. "So you are saying that I have essentially, a second chance to live. And that you, this unreliable looking-weak-light ball, are my 'system' to help me achieve this. Kind of like those popular world hopping web-novels." System 47398 finally saw some hope. It (the light ball) started to float in circles around Adrienne's head. "Yes! Exactly! Now host, all you have to say is that 'I, (your full name), agree to bind with System 47398' and then we can get started!" Adrienne carelessly lay back down. "I would like to decline your offer. While I'm sure you only had the best intentions, I recommend you to give this chance to someone else as I'm not interested." She stated politely.
System 47398 "…" Not interested? Not interested?! NOT INTERESTED?!? The system was shocked! Adrienne calmly continued, "If this is similar to the novels then my soul will likely be terminated and forever destroyed. I don't mind. You may now extinguish my soul. I'm ready." The system felt like crying. How come all the other systems' hosts were extremely proactive and motivated to complete tasks, while it's host was cold, apathetic, and suicidal! System 47398 felt exceedingly unlucky. It tried to convince its suicidal host. "Don't you want to go back to your old life? Don't you have any loved ones to return to? What about your family? Think of those that'll cry upon hearing about your death!"
"My parents were abusive and are dead. I have no other family. I have no friends and own my own online company which only involves me. I've had my heart broken so many times that I don't believe in love anymore. I don't have any regrets in life or dreams. You may now end me." Adrienne said indifferently. System 47398 "…"
Host you are too pitiful! But if you don't agree to the contract then I'll be punished and rebuilt! Why did this have to happen with its very first host?! As a desperate and unlucky system that didn't want to be rebuilt, it did what any self-respecting system would do. It broke down in tears and started crying.
Adrienne "???" Why did her system suddenly start crying? Did it malfunction?
"Sob, sob, sob… WAAAAAHHH!!! I'm going to be rebuilt! I don't want to be punished! Hic, hic, hic…" the system sobbed. Adrienne quickly understood the key points from its speech. 'So, if I don't agree to the contract then the system will be rebuilt?' She thoughtfully looked at the light ball which was now covered in tears and pitifully rolling in sadness on the ground. Adrienne "…" How come in novels the system was always cold and majestic while hers was… Well, like this! She sighed. Though Adrienne might seem extremely cold and apathetic, she was actually pretty understanding. She also secretly had a slight soft side for cute, small, and fluffy things. Taking another glance at the poor system, she let out another inaudible sigh. In a resigned but still cold tone she declared, "I, Adrienne Rivers, agree to bind with System 47398."
A mechanical, robotic voice resounded in the room, [Host, White Rabbit, has successfully bonded with System 47398. Congratulations, we wish you a happy cooperation together.]
Adrienne "…" Who was White Rabbit? Was it her?
System 47397 "…" We bonded?! She agreed?! When? Why? How?
