Chapter 16 - Death Is All Around Us

Arjun was admitted to the Darjeeling Medical Research Institute. According to doctors, someone had hit Arjun in the back of his head with something as hard as a log. He had minor injuries on his body which indicated that he struggled before the ultimate smash on his head. A little later, Roy received a call from an unknown number.

"Hello? um, Mr. Roy?" It was a voice of a young woman. She hesitated for a moment.

"Yes?" He asked.

"Um...I am Ruby...sorry Rubina, remember Ms. Singh's PA."

"Yes, yes. I thought you sounded familiar."

"Yes, could you connect me with Ms. Singh at the moment?"

"Sorry?"

"Um...her phone is switched off since yesterday night. It's urgent."

"Oh yes, about that, Sharmishtha isn't here at the moment. You can give me the message...I will convey it to her."

After hesitating a bit, she said, "Rajiv Sir called. He told me to inform her that they received four black roses. I don't know what it meant...but I think it's something important because this morning I also found four black roses at our doorstep. He asked me to stay alert and increase security. Is something bad happening?"

"Don't worry. We don't know anything for sure. I will convey the message to her."

"Also..." She hesitated again. It was a long pause. Roy understood and asked gently, "Did you get any word from her husband?"

"Yes!" Ruby was delighted that she wasn't the only person anymore who knew about their marriage apart from Rajiv and a few others. "Sir is very tensed. He said that he wanted to apologise for his behaviour earlier. He wants to talk to her."

"Wait...did they have a fight or, something?"

"Well...not exactly. But, for the last few months, Sir has been a bit less sincere with his approach towards Ma'am. And, whenever she feels that his behaviour is not proper...she just stops talking. I think they would get better once they meet each other face to face. A long-distance relationship is hard for sure."

"Oh okay. I would request her to call Rey as well. Anything else?"

"No, thank you."

"Alright, thank you," replied Roy and disconnected the call.

Roy informed the officers guarding the door that he would be returning to the hotel and would come to visit sometime later. They nodded, and Roy left the hospital. 'Alright...now I need to start on phase B. It's good that I sneaked her phone away from the room earlier without Sengupta noticing. I will have Rohan crack this thing up for me. Just need to come up with a good excuse.'

Meanwhile, Sengupta was busy with his team to find Sharmishtha. He was constantly in touch with the intelligence room. "No, the camera or the mics are most probably not working. Or, maybe they smashed it," a lady replied.

"Do something, Sara. Find me something. We have to find her. Please make sure that media gets no word about it," requested Sengupta.

"Wasn't Sharmishtha our inside person in the media? How can I take care of that?" asked Sara.

"Come on, Sara. You must have some contacts right? Don't tell me that you guys didn't plan this out."

"Uh...How many things can I possibly handle? You are burdening me with work."

"Stop whining, we have a person to find."

"Hey, Mihir?" She asked with a strident voice.

"What?"

"I don't work for you. Ask me nicely."

"..." Mihir was speechless. 'Here's a friend missing, and she wants to be asked nicely.'

"Alright, my dear Saraswati Devi, please do everything you can so that we can find her."

"Okay...who's paying me by the way?"

"Shyra will if you can find her. I assure you five digits now please find me something."

"Make it six. There are several secret chambers around the mansion. Go, I will guide you through them," smirked Sara.

"Understood," replied Sengupta and instructed his team.

"Sir? Do you trust her?" a man asked.

"No! But she has clarity of what she wants. Whatever she does is for money. As long as we pay her the highest, there won't be any problem. Get Rohan to reach her though. I heard he is good with stuff like this. Also, I want someone to look after her negotiations," replied Sengupta.

The man nodded.

By the time, Roy reached Rohan, two officers were already guarding the door of their hotel room. Only after taking his ID, they let Roy enter. Rohan was lying on the sofa by the balcony. Roy took off his coat and muffler and sat on the opposite single sofa. "You look exhausted."

"You look far worse," Rohan commented. "How are they?"

"They are in the hospital. We would visit them in the evening."

"I think it's an inside mole," stated Rohan.

"Well, Ajay's role is clear already."

"No, I mean it is someone in our media house."

"What rubbish? No one other than you, me and Arjun know about this." Roy was surprised to hear Rohan's assumptions.

"How can you be so sure?" asked Rohan with eyes lowly inquiring his face.

Roy went silent. Rohan did have a point there. Anybody could get a hand on the information. "I don't like to stay inside like a prisoner," complained Rohan.

"We have no choice. Safety is important."

"Well, we are safe anyway. They won't launch any deadly attack on us." Rohan sighed.

"How can you be so sure?"

Rohan went silent for some time. "One of the people who attacked her said that Boss was the only target. Furthermore, they could have targeted each one of us and would have killed us as well," he spoke again.

After halting for a minute or so, he continued again, "They have a degree of intelligence on Boss. Believe me or not, there is more to this story. The way this happened, it seemed like rage more than strategy. They could have killed all of us with gunshots. Why go so far to arrange something like this?"

"And that Sengupta! He is shady as hell and so does Boss. There is something we don't know about. Something Boss hasn't told any of us." He went on describing his hunch.

"You are thinking too much," Roy grumbled.

"Maybe. Also, Rajiv Sir called." Rohan sat up straight on the sofa. "Four people died. Two were team members and two were related to team members."
