~In Another World ~
She woke up with tears in her eyes. It had been quite a few years since she had wept so profusely.
'What was that?'
She asked herself, as she started to recall her dream. It wasn't a nightmare, because she felt no fear. If anything, it was just the pure coolness that radiated from such a dreadful and heart wrenching scene that was displayed. She had seen herself, but there was some strange and unknown boy there as well. She cared not for the courtiers that showed up at her home, but from her dream, she could definitely feel a sort of connection between them that she was uncertain as to how she could explain it.
This, however, is not what made her wake up in tears, it was what she saw behind the boy and herself. In the background, she saw her mother, lying motionless in a large pool of her own blood, and her sweet little sister, unmoving, on the far end of the room, crumpled against the wall. Her sister, Jess, was only 6 years old. I had been there when she had first seen the world, so seeing her slumped up against the wall like that was almost too much to bear. Her dream-self strode alongside the young man towards the balcony.
From there, she saw her world washed in blue flames. She saw her hometown and beloved city in a seemingly never-ending fury of fire. High above in the sky, she saw two enormous figures circling her home, and when one of them noticed her, it dove towards her with amazing speed, stopping right in front of her, in order to give her the coldest and most evil look she had ever seen.
She saw in those amber eyes nothing but her own true and utter despair being reflected back at her. The great beast had been clinging to the tower silently, until it reared back its head and roared with a ferocity that shook the very heaven's foundations. The effect on her, however, was a severe rumbling in her head, a chill washing over her, and a rude snap back to reality in a cold sweat.
Her mind refocused on her room in the real world. Her gaze swept towards the large floor-to ceiling double window on her left side. 'Judging by the horizon getting a touch of color, it should be an hour till dawn,' she thought, slowly calming down her nerves and steadying her breath.
'Who was that boy?'
This thought kept creating a myriad of theories as to when she had seen that face before. As she silently pondered to herself, she began to sense a presence. She quickly took a better look at her surroundings, and noticed movement in the corner of her bedroom. She relaxed when the figures moved into the dying moonlight, showing three dogs padding forward in unison. 'My sweet boys', she murmured to herself as she called out their names.
"Come now, Kerian, Beron, and Osilon." Her three dogs lumbered forward at the beckoning of their master. She recalled why she had named them so peculiarly. The first few letters of each of their names, when put together read, Kerberos, which was the name of an ancient hellhound that guarded the gates of eternal suffering.
The baker's dog had given birth to these three triplets, with their unique eyes. Kerian carries eyes of molten gold and pure silver, while Beron carries one of silver and one of jade, and finally Osilon, carrying one of gold and the other of jade. They complete one another, it was a true blessing, being able to have these three. Her thoughts drifted for a while when she realized how long she'd been sitting there reminiscing.
'Oh no! Dawn is already upon us! I must get dressed or I will be late!'
With that, the girl named Lucilia Katelyn Saphiré ran to her dresser.
