"I don't ever meet the souls of the dead, I usually just let them reincarnate," she said. "But your case is very different... I didn't want to miss out on the chance to see my very own child face-to-face..."
I must have been quiet for a long time while trying to comprehend what I had heard. Meanwhile, she waited patiently with a curious smile on her face which, because of her eyes and skin, was quite unnerving look at.
"You said you wanted to see your child at least once," I finally replied. "Am I the child you've been waiting for?"
"Yes."
"But I'm not your child."
She laughed, her voice bouncing off the invisible walls and echoing loudly around me.
"Do you really believe that you're the spawn of that human couple? What were their names again... Ah yes, Camri and Mikael!"
"Listen to me, Ren." She leaned forward from her throne. "We both know it and your family knew it, even Eirlys. They found you when they first settled down and built their little settlement. You are not their child."
She put her hand on her chest as if she was emphasizing her point. "You. Are. Mine!"
With that, she leaned back and heaved, like just saying those words had taken a lot out of her. I knew what she was really waiting for was for me to come up with a suitable reaction, or to argue with her. But I couldn't because she was right.
I was the only one in my village with white hair. Mother tried to soothe me by saying that my hair color wasn't that uncommon, but I never once saw another person whose with pale white hair like mine. On top of that, even though we were supposed to be related, I didn't resemble Mother, Father, or Eirlys at all. At the time I refused to believe it though. They treated me like I was a member of the family, so I accepted it.
"Do you believe me now?" She said gently.
I looked at her and nodded and she replied with a simple, "That's good."
There was something I needed to get off my chest though.
"If I'm your child, correct?" I asked. She nodded in reply.
"But you're not human, or at least I think you're not... So what does that make me?"
"I don't know." She murmured. "I don't know who or what I am. I created your world and everything in it, along with several millions of other worlds as well. Your planet developed lifeforms who developed into an intelligent species so I got curious and created you so I could watch the world from your eyes"
"So if anything," she added. "I can only tell you that you're not human. You're just an extremely powerful being with consciousness like myself."
"So you're telling me I'm not a human being."
"Exactly what I'm telling you."
I think it was around this point that I realized something had changed in the short time I had been here.
'It's strange but... I don't feel all that surprised? I'm supposed to be feeling all types of ways right now. She's doing something to my head.'
"What did you do to me?" I deadpanned.
"... I need you to elaborate"
"Something's been really off since I came here," I continued.
"You've been saying and doing some really crazy things up until now. Hell, this entire ordeal has been crazy. And even though I've listened to a lot of the impossible things you've told me, I'm not surprised, angry, or sad... I don't feel... Well, anything."
She gave me a blank stare as if trying to determine what I was saying. Then, realization dawned on her face and she giggled quietly like I'd said a funny joke while I waited, unamused until she had calmed down enough to answer my question.
"I apologize. I was waiting for you to realize it."
"Realize what?" I asked, slightly annoyed.
"They're slowly disappearing, or they're probably already gone, aren't they? Your emotions."
" ...What the hell are you doing to me?"
"I'm not doing anything. Don't tell me you've forgotten what I told you? Emotions are a human thing. You've been gone from Earth long enough that you're losing them.
"What are you talking about? I've only been gone for a few hours."
She started to laugh again. This one louder than the last one.
"Stop it with the laughing," I ordered. "It's really annoying."
She completely ignored me and laughed even louder, obviously entertained by my growing annoyance.
"I guess their back, aren't they? Or maybe it's an on-off thing since you grew up on Earth." She pondered, staring at me like I was some sort of riddle she couldn't solve. Very uncomfortable.
"Yeah, whatever." I shrugged. "What was so funny anyway? I've only been here for a few hours right?"
"Time passes differently around here. I'm sure even I would go insane if I had to live in boredom for the past few billions of years."
Surely it can't be that bad right? It's not like centuries have passed or something. Maybe just a few decades.
"How long has it been since I died?"
"I believe it's somewhere around... 850 Earth years.
"Damn it," I muttered. "This is a problem."
