The moon was a wraith-silver halo hanging in the lonely sky. Lasers of moonlight, as bright as diamond-flame, showering parts of the bland forest in glowing melted platinum. In silence, the moon watched as a foreign, lava-flame emerged from the dark part of the forest; illuminating two humanoid figures sitting around it.
Ren sat with Ryan on the hard rocky ground. Ryan had chosen to keep watch over the horses and the carriage so everyone else could sleep and Ren volunteered to join him, seeing it as a chance to learn some more information without dealing with unnecessary problems; namely in the form of a short girl with chocolate brown hair and a vulgar tongue who was peacefully sleeping with Lyira and Juan who'd been silent the entire day.
"Can you tell me more about Amaryllis City before we get there?" Ren asked politely.
Ryan stared at the horses nibbling on the grass and took a deep breath before speaking.
"You're already aware of the history behind Amaryllis aren't you?" He asked.
"Yes. Emily and you both told me a little bit when I decided to travel with you."
"Okay, okay, that's good." Ryan said, "I'll continue where we left off."
Ryan stretched out his back with a sigh and a satisfied look on his face and let out a small yawn after, covering his mouth with his hands as he did so.
"So as I was saying, Amaryllis City is in the middle of Pangaea. It's actually a neutral capital built on land taken from the 6 continents so it functions as the Capital of Pangaea. If you are acknowledged in Amaryllis, you'll become a successful all across Pangaea."
Ryan paused for a moment and tapped his chin thoughtfully. "What else... what else... Oh yeah!"
"Hm??" Ren hummed questioningly.
"I almost completely forgot about it, but there is also a Magic Academy as well; Amaryllis Academy. It's an academy where the most talented children gather, and all of them are supposedly very proficient when it comes to using magic. They might even be better than you."
"They have no chance at being better than me..." Ren mumbled quietly.
"And a lot of noble families from all the races have their children attend the school; Well... except for the Elves, even just seeing one of them outside of Aeilestair is pretty rare. Not to mention that they're pretty powerful being able to produce quadri-wielders like that."
"Wow..." Ren said. "It's impressive that you know so much, but where did you get all this information from anyway?"
"Ahahaha..." Ryan laughed nervously. "Well I love reading -and there was a library I visited a lot as a child. I basically got all my knowledge from the books they had."
"That's really impressive." Ren commented.
"Yes, thank you! Now as I was saying, All the races except for the Elves send their children to Amaryllis Academy. Apparently by having the heirs to each Race learning under the same conditions, it could encourage peace-"
"But do you think it's a good idea?" Ren butted in.
"It's a good idea, honestly. But I think it's a bit too optimistic. There's one thought process that all of the races have, and it's that they each think they are far superior to one another. Pretty dumb if you ask me. The Demonkin are too violent and proud, the BeastKind think they are better because they have far greater physical prowess than anyone else. The Ice Giants are too proud for their own good and outside of the noble families the rest of the population are struggling to survive, and yet they refuse to come forth and admit that they need help. The Elves are also too prideful, and hide themselves away from the other races because they think of us as dumber creatures..."
"And then there's us, the Human race." Ryan sighed sadly. "We're far too greedy for our own good, I can easily admit that. We want to control everything. We were even the ones who came up with the idea of Amaryllis because we want everyone and everything to be under our control... But hey! at least we're making an effort towards peace, aren't we?!... I just wish it didn't take us so long to do so."
"I think we've gone way off the topic." Ren said, slightly surprised at Ryan's heartfelt speech about the problems of each race. Ren was slowly building a sort of respect for Ryan. Initially he was just an annoying pest that he wanted to ignore and get rid off like Emily, but now Ren respected him for being able to accept that the world they lived in was a sad one. Ren wondered what happened to the guy, who looked no older than an 17 year old, to cause him to have such a view.
"Yeah you're right... Sorry about that. I tend to get a little to aggressive when talking about the races and all. I think I should get some sleep, yeah?" He let out a small yawn and gently massaged his eyes.
"Yeah okay, I agree. It's actually very late now that I realize."
Ryan got up slowly, letting out a few groans while attempting to move his stiff body. He approached the carriage and disappeared into the back with a quick 'Goodnight!' to Ren.
Ren looked up at the starry night sky, noticing that the moon was still shining in its magnificent glory. He grinned absentmindedly as some memories resurfaced from his childhood, but quickly enough the smile was replaced with frown and lips curled in distaste when he remembered how e quickly his peaceful childhood had come to an ending.
"I swear," Ren muttered, his eyebrows crossed in newfound determination. "I will find you Eirlys, and I'll protect you this time, I promise."
