Chapter 32 - Weight Of Silence

One month has passed since Lucian came to live with his master. In total, it has been three months since he left home to begin his training.

Within those three months, the boy has undergone an enormous transformation mostly thanks to the harsh treatment his master had taken him through.

And it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say to say the boy had lost a part his old self. And he was still going through the training he believed would change him forever.

Lucian jumped from time to time as he ran through the heavy rain with a little distance of sight within his reach. It had been raining heavily for hours and his master chose that moment put up a hunt game.

After coming to a huge old fallen tree, the boy stopped running and tried to listen to any sound that could help him to locate his master.

Unlike before, he had a real bow and arrow this time as he and his master were hunting each other in the heavy rain with little or no visibility.

Lucian stood at one spot alertly ready to shoot at any moment. Although he was still not good, he now had the basics right and could shoot at a descent distance. "Can you see anything Nexus?" Lucian asked.

[I can only see through your eyes so technically, no] The system replied.

"That's not what I mean"

[Well, if you're asking for a map, I can't help you right now. It will just undermine your growth. You'll have to do this yourself]

"Useless system" Lucian muttered but the system chose not to respond.

Just then, he heard a low whistle and an arrow flew right past his eyes. Lucian was quick enough to shoot two arrows in succession at the place the other one had come from before taking off again.

Truth be told, Lucian didn't know where they were currently at. They had been chasing each other for hours. All he knew was that wherever they were, it was a plain land because there were no trees around.

"Listen to the sound around you carefully . Listen carefully and you'll hear beyond the noise" Lucian heard his master's voice and stopped running.

He hesitated on whether to do what the lady said or not but gave in, in the end. But just to be on the safer side, he knocked an arrow on his string before closing his eyes. He took in a deep breath before sinking his hearing with the sound of the pouring rain. He listened carefully as the fast drops of water became heavy in his ears. After a few seconds, almost minute, he heard it. The the sound of the rain became slow and the fallling of droplets after droplets became clear. If not for the fact that the rain was pouring on his at the exact rate as earlier, he would have believed that time had slowed down.

When he realized it was working he took a decision and focused his attention on something else. He ignore every sound of the rain entirely and focused his attention on the sound outside the rain.

Slowly but surely, the rain sound faded away entirely leaving Lucian in a vacuum of silence. He began to feel weight of the silence as it began to weigh on him.

It was so heavy that the boy dicided to give up at some point, until he heard it. The sound of footsteps. It moved steadily and quick but Lucian was able to follow it.

Just then he heard a whistling sound, but this time it wasn't just the sound. It was as though he could see the direction it was coming from.

Before the arrow could reach him, the boy moved aside a few inches allowing the arrow to pass.

Lucian opened his eyes and smiled before raising his bow to aim.
