Chapter 66 - _ The Gala Begins

My voice shattered the silence I had been desperate to preserve. I saw her shoulders lurch, a physical reaction to the venom in my tone. I had just fought a war for her in the hallway, bleeding my own family's secrets to save her neck, and her response was to haunt the one place I thought I had reclaimed.

Vane was pacing. "She is soft, Kaeren. Look at her. She is trembling like a leaf in a storm. The bond—it hurts. It hurts her more than it hurts us."

She was the one who decided to exploit my kindness. 

"I told Austin to have you moved," I spat, ignoring the wolf's whimpering. I stepped further into the room, the click of the latch behind me sounding like a gunshot. "I was very clear. I told him to prepare the duplex suite for your sister and that you were to stay there. So, I will ask you one more time before I lose what little remains of my patience—why are you still in my sight?"
